Help. Baby Kitten Found Less Than 10 Days Old.

What can I give a two day old newborn kitten? My friend found it in the middle of a road, and there are no vets/etc nearby.

Wet the outside of the nipple with milk formula to give it flavor. Then, gently insert the nipple into the kitten's mouth using a prying motion while you apply pressure to the sides of the bottle to release a drop or two of milk. From then on your kitten should suck on its own. Powdered kitten milk replacement formula is better for kittens than the canned liquid formula. You can also purchase economical KMR powder on line, at veterinary offices and pet stores. You would need a feeding bottle.Very important note: Neonatal kittens (under four weeks of age) cannot eat solid food (not canned, not dry) and cannot urinate or defecate on their own, so you must bottle-feed them around-the-clock and stimulate their genitals after every feeding so they can eliminate. For example, if you have kittens less than one week old, they will need to be fed and stimulated every three hours. That means you will be caring for them eight times a day — for example, at midnight, 3:00 a.m, 6:00 a.m, etc. If the kittens are unusually small or sickly, they might need to be fed every two hours.

How to care for baby mice around 10 days old?

It sounds like the mice are between 1 & 2 weeks old, since they have fur but their eyes are still closed. The eyes will open when they're about 2 weeks old & they'll begin nibbling solid food around that time although mama mouse would normally keep feeding them a bit longer.

They'll probably only take a drop or 2 of formula @ each feeding & they should be fed every couple of hours, day & night. They *might* be able to go to the bathroom by themselves by now, but if they can't you'll need to gently tickle their lower tummies & under their tails with the corner of a damp washcloth. This needs to be done after each meal. Obviously, if they can go to the bathroom by themselves you'd know by now.

Since they're so active, they should be in an escape proof habitat. Don't wait til their eyes open to do this. If they turn out to be 1 male & 1 female, you'll need to separate them within 2 weeks after their eyes open because sometimes they can mate that young. If they're both the same sex, they can stay together for companionship.

Good luck with the babies.

Kitten dies suddenly at 10 days old.?

my cat recently had 5 kittens . all are very healthy and a great weight.
I noticed one of the kittens were a bit smaller than the rest but i just assumed this was the runt.
it was feeding fine Just like the others and his wee eyes wer starting to open.
then yesterday morning i went out and he was jus laying there cold.
We tried for half an hour to get him to suckle but he wouldnt. so i got a sringe and hand fed him but about 10 mins later he took a deep breath and died, I had him beside a heater but he would go warm, his mother and my other two cats didnt want to be near him .
Im just confused as to why he died suddenly over night

His back legs had a few cuts and his paws were peeling. His furr seemd al matted or something. but mum was still cleaning him so i assumed he was fine . It just looked like pee on his legs .

By the time i realise soemthing was rong he died before we got him to the vets .

When he was born mother cat didnt bother about him or clean him i had to clean away the sac and he wasnt breathing for 10 mins . but i got him breathing .

I just want to know if it happened to anyone else?

How do I care for an abandoned baby kitten?

If she can walk and she has teeth then her eyes should definitely be open. I would suggest taking her to the vet for a check up as soon as possible. Take a warm wash cloth and wipe her eyes gently to see if that helps in some way. Get her a good quality kitten food and moisten it with water or some cat milk from your local store. Do not give her cow's milk. Most cats are lactose intolerant and cow's milk can really upset her digestive system. If she can't eat on her own then get her a bottle for a kitten from the pet store or the pet section at you local store and feed her cat milk from the bottle. You will have to also wipe her little behind with a warm wash cloth to stimulate bowel movements. I would also suggest calling a vet. Most will give lots of great advice free over the phone. Good luck and thank you for taking in the little kitten.

How long can a baby kitten live without food? and Could I save it by feeding it through a bottle?

You need to know how old the kitten is.

If it has an umbilical cord it is less than 3 days. It probably wont live but you will need to feed it Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR- available at pet stores) from a bottle every TWO hours AROUND THE CLOCK -yes you need to get up in the night to feed it.

If it has no umbilical cord and the eyes are firmly shut- it is 3 to 8 days, do the same as above, but it has a slightly higher chance to survive.

If its eyes are starting to open but its ears are folded down, it is 8-21 days. Feed it every 3-4 hours, and it can eat ONCE in the night.

If its eyes and ears are open and it can crawl, it's 21-30 days and can eat every 4 hours, and once overnight. If its this old it will probably live IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. If it was abandoned by its mother, it may have been for a reason.

If it can walk easily, it's 4-5+ weeks old and should get the KMR along with offering a little canned food.

What should one-month-old kittens eat?

Ideally, one-month-old kittens should still be drinking their mother’s milk, and mother should be given as much as she wants of a high quality cat food. Kitten food works rather well because it has a lot of calories.Your one-month-old kittens might want to try solid food for the first time this week or next. They will most likely try mom’s food, and if she is eating kitten food, especially wet kitten food, they will probably be interested enough to try it once they are mobile enough to check it out.If one-month-old kittens are orphaned or abandoned, and you can’t find another mom cat who will accept them (mother cats tend to be quite accepting of strange kittens if they are around their own kittens’ age), you will need to feed them kitten milk. Don’t feed cow’s milk; it tends to give them horrible diarrhea because kittens are lactose-intolerant, and a small animal the size of a kitten can dehydrate quickly.Buy kitten milk from a pet store or from a vet, and put it in a small bottle that your kittens can suck from. Since they’re four weeks old, they may actually be old enough to drink from a saucer and try solid kitten food if they happen to be orphans; there’s no harm in offering them some at this age. It will be messy, but a kitten’s first experiences with solid food always are.If your kittens are orphaned, you should probably also schedule a vet appointment; abandoned kittens have often not had a very good environment to grow up in, and may have health problems that need to be treated.

What should I do with 3 very small motherless kittens (possibly less than 10-days-old) after putting them in a shoe box?

Gee, this is difficult. The best thing would be to bring them to a no-kill shelter that is used to having very small kittens. Although what you’ve done is a wonderful thing, kittens need full time attention, bottle feeding, a warm environment, and other cats to socialize them. It can’t be done only when you have time—it’s just like taking care of any baby. Until about 4 weeks, they are all but helpless.Until you get to the shelter, make sure they are kept warm (80 degrees) and hydrated. Most pet food chains carry kittens milk and bottles. Here’s a link to their larger pages about how much care they need— a very good, accurate guide to caring for kittens up to 10 weeks. How Old Is That Kitten? Kitten Progression: At-a-GlanceIf you have the time and space, and feel that you’re up to it, you might want to raise them yourself.No-kill shelters, however, are better equipped and have experience in rescuing the smallest kitten. No matter which you choose, you get a gold star and a special place in heaven for rescuing the 3 kittens. They are often targets of rats and feral dogs.
