Degenerative Disc Disease and herniated disc L5/S1. Should I MEB?

I just completed my first year in the Army. I injured myself after a fall during basic training, was sent to ER. x-rays didn't show any fractures or broken bones but my knee and foot swelled up. I pushed forward despite the pain and graduated BCT. Finally made appointment with PCP in my unit, and MRI showed I had herniated my L5/S1 disc with a nerve root pinched causing pain towards my left leg, and have 2 bulging discs in L3/L4 and L4/L5. I've gone through 6 months of Physical Therapy without improvements. Was referred to Physical med and recently went for cortisone injection #1. It was good for a week and the pain returned. Sleepless nights and nerve meds that constantly causes dizziness. My physical med doctor diagnosed me to have Severe degenerative disc disease. I've been on the same profile for 9 months now. I have a P3 rating for PULHES for lower back. My mos requires a 222222. I have 3 years more before my ETS. I'm 32.

With barely 1 year in, I'm considering pressing on until my ETS (so that I can keep 100% of my GI bill) - or will I still be entitled to 100% of my GI bill if I'm med boarded? Any helpful answers is appreciated.

Lumbar disc degeneration and transverse process fracture?

symptom wise is a bit difficult, there is a very wide range from crippling to nothing at all. The disk degeneration can't be called after one look, it takes time to see if they bounce back or not. Most with damage to their disk regardless of the label, heal until the repetitive damage makes it impossible. As far as NSAID's go, the potential damage to the stomach is very real anyways. Ice if the area hurts or you have done something which potentially will make it hurt. Heat before doing something that can potentially make it hurt. Do not just hang out, the inactivity makes it worse but overdoing it will also make it worse, you'll need to find the balance. Strengthening the muscle in the area and in the core with targeted experiences, say from a physical theosophist not only help. But is the best long term solution for minimizing pain and episode. If you have extra weight, lose it. I share in both the lower back issues and the eosinophilic esophagitis. Been dealing with it for over to decades, the last one has been pretty brutal, i also have nerve entrapment. My next step is surgery but the doc wants to hold off for as long as i can take it.

Grade I spondylolisthesis and degenerative diffusely bulging disc at L5-S1 with bilateral foraminal stenosis?

Spinal surgery is usually avoided at least in our country unless it's the last straw. So i guess you'd be prescribed medication first and then see from there.

Can yoga cure degenerative disc disease (2 annular disc bulges at L4-L5-S1 with constant neck pain)?

Yoga is a good bet. And the more mindfulness is focused upon in the yoga you are taught, the better.Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is an excellent choice in my personal and professional opinion. Disclaimer: I have no association of any kind with PRYT.I also recommend reading Healing Back Pain by John Sarno, MD. His work is the most effective I’ve seen. All the Rage is a documentary about his work.Good luck with your exploration.Counter-intuitively, the more a treatment approach is focused on the physical elements of the pain syndrome, the less effective they tend to be.
