How do you clean up dried Pepto Bismol from wood and carpet?

So I had a bottle of Pepto Bismol at the foot of my bed on my desk, and I guess I didn't screw the cap on all the way (A stupid mistake on my part). I woke up and it had spilled all over my desk and my carpet! I must have kicked it over in my sleep! I live in an apartment so I must get rid of all traces of it! The carpet is really dark so I'm not too worried about that, but it's not coming off of my desk when I scrub it. Some parts I can peel off like a sticker and it comes off cleanly, but other parts just won't come off. HALP

I need a floor cleaner that will get up carpet pad residue off a finished wood floor?

Hi,
I am one of the owners of Eco Flor, LLC of Chicago. Carpet pads can be a mess. Many issue occur when hardwood floors are covered with carpeting. Generally it is better to refinish your floors when you uncover them. The small staple holes and nail holes from the carpet tack are areas of potential damage.
As far as the padding it sounds as if it may be wear marks. This occurs when the dirt makes its way down to the wood surface and grind of the finish. You can tell if it is by applying a cooking oil to the surface and the results should blend the areas together. Wipe up the excess. This also reseals the wood. The bad news is that you also will then be sure there is no finish left on the floor.
If the padding has broken down and dissolved due to other reasons (over shampooing or pet urine) it may actually be bounded to the floor. Chemicals can actually stain through the wood. This again will result in needing to be refinished.
Never scrub a floor with anything. Never use heavy amounts of water. Water saturates the surface of finishes and cause wood to swell and will break the bond with the finish. It will also cause the wood to cup or crown. Use as little as possible and vacuum more often.
With out pictures it is hard to give any further information. It is usually a good idea to refinish flooring once it has been covered. They are a expensive investment and if taken care of will last longer than we will. Hope that this help and good luck.

I have a glue down carpet and am getting a huge amount of off gassing. Other than venhilation, some options?

Make sure that the carpet installers didnt use the black tile glue this will never dry right and will leave a smell. The acrpet company should have some idea as to what they used and how long this smell should last. I dont think a air scrubber would help but i could be wrong. it would never hurt just ato try carpet cleaner of some kinda.

Has anyone every used Murphy's Oil Soap as a carpet cleaner?

While wiping down walls, I knocked over a full bucket of water mixed with Murphy's Oil Soap. After using the Wet Dry vac to get up the water, I now have a much cleaner area of rug, as it left a perfect ring where the water spilled! I'm wondering if it made that area of carpet look so clean, if I shouldn't use it for the entire room..?
