Help Me I Have Got Head Lice

How to get rid of head lice?

Mayo is an effective way to kill the head lice. Salmonella poisoning will only occur if the mayo is consumed after treatment. Have no fear about this happening, I'm sure that mayo is not very appetizing after being in someones hair.

The mayo is used as a form of suffocation because it blocks the breathing holes and kill the live lice. Rub the mayo throughout her hair and then cover it up with a shower cap. Leave overnight and then rinse off in the morning.

The real trick though is to find natural products that will kill both the live lice and their eggs in one fast effective treatment.

Remedies containing Neem Oil are known to be highly effective as Neem interrupts the growth and reproduction of the head louse. Neem’s insecticidal properties are widely recognized now and the oil is commonly available at your local health food store.

I have had head lice for a year. How do I get rid of them? I have developed some wounds on my head too. I am a teenage girl with long hair.

Use white conditioner.I know it sounds odd, but trust me on this.I had lice for about 2 years. I had wounds all over my scalp. There was scabbing everywhere. I tried every lice shampoo I could find (including using mayonnaise!), even cut my hair short, all to no avail. My mom found an article online about using white conditioner to remove lice, amd finally, something worked!Any conditioner will do; I used Suave coconut conditioner.Put a generous amount in your hair, add a lot. Cover your hair in it. Keep it in your hair for about 30 minutes, comb the conditioner out with a lice comb, then wash your hair. Do this as many times as necessary, and I promise, you'll see results after the first time. The conditioner smothers the lice. Make sure to go through your hair with a lice comb to get the eggs as well. You can also put some tea tree oil in your shampoo, it repels lice and prevents it for the future.

Should I shave my head to get rid of lice?

You can, but it’s not a sure-fire fix. It is also NOT necessary, so don’t feel like you HAVE to do it.The best treatment for lice won’t do you any good unless you are thorough and persistent. You have to be more persistent than those little creeps are, and they are tenacious! There are chemical choices and natural choices, and the internet is full of resources to look up. Rid is one of the most well-known brands, and I have used it often in the facilities that I work in. Nit-picking after the shampoos, multiple treatments to catch any that were missed, and washing ALL of your clothes and bed linens are all necessary to get rid of that one sneaky nit that got by you. This will help prevent re-infestation. Having someone help you nit-comb your hair is extremely helpful, and if they are fussy and thorough themselves. Bed covers and pillow covers are often used for preventing bed bugs, but they can help slow lice down as well, if used with everything else. I do recommend using a kit with a metal comb rather than plastic. The ends of the metal ones are rounder and don’t scratch the scalp, and are more robust for repeated combings.Anything that you can’t wash without ruining, like hats, can be run in the dryer on high heat without washing. The heat will kill the little goobers. Use a dryer bag to suspend anything you don’t want tumbling around.I’ve dealt with scabies, lice, and bed bugs in my time working homeless and runaway youths. It CAN be daunting, but with the right procedure and follow-through, you’ll be ok.

Lately, I realized that I have head lice, and there are a lot of them. I live in hostels, and I wanted to get rid of it without telling my parents about it. I only have a nit comb, so how much time is the fastest to get rid of them?

First, make sure you’re really dealing with head lice. Many folks who see bugs in the hair conclude that they’ve discovered head lice. Sometimes, they’re right, but often they’re not.You only have a nit comb? If your hair is fairly short and untangled, you might remove all traces of lice (and their eggs) in just minutes. If your hair is long, curly, knotted, or would otherwise make it difficult to pass a comb through, then toss that comb. It’ll offer little benefit. Relying upon such a comb would simply cause you pain and waste time.Assuming you do have head lice, does it matter which is the ‘fastest’ method to rid yourself of these beasts? An expert barber or beautician can shave your scalp hair in just a few minutes. An inexpert one can do that as well, but might leave you with scars. That’s fast, but it is also an overly aggressive response. There’s rarely any justification to shave one’s head because of head lice. Many of the over-the-counter and prescription anti-louse products are applied for just about 10 minutes, then rinsed out. A single application can, in many cases, kill all the lice. Generally, these treatments don’t kill the developing eggs, so a second application tends to be needed about 10 days after the initial treatment. That should be expected to eradicate head lice from most persons. These treatments don’t remove the dead or hatched eggs, but that’s not needed. Any remaining eggs (or ‘nits’) are merely inanimate artifacts. If lice continue to present after such treatment, then those lice might be insensitive (or resistant) to the product applied. In that case, one should consider a product containing a different class of active ingredient.

How long does it take to get head lice?

They can jump and crawl. Don’t believe the myths that they can’t survive if they’re not clinging on to a piece of hair. They can and do. Public transport is a problem with lice, as they don’t just transfer if people’s heads are too close, they will fall off onto a seat and crawl onto the next available person. So, basically, it’s pretty much instant.Lice carry fertilised eggs inside their bodies, as do many insects. Once they find a nice new home they will start attaching them one by one, and 3 days later these will start hatching, complete with their own cohort of eggs. It may take longer than this to notice, though, because the itch is small until there are lots of the buggers biting, by which time you have a real infestation on your hands.Another myth you should ignore is the one about lice being found mostly on dirty hair. They like clean hair best. There’s less oil to clog up their breathing tubes, so it’s safer for them. A “hot” oil treatment will kill them, repeated every 3 days to deal with hatchlings until there are none left. Use a fine tooth comb to get rid of the egg cases afterwards.

I've got head lice and I'm 21, should I tell my partner and is it normal?

It's normal for headlice to live in hair. If you've had contact with your partner since the lice arrived, let him know as he might have them too, now. It's not a big deal.
