How do I prepare for the Nust Entrance test?

Prepare from the FSC textbooks. No need to go into details, simply know the formulas and how to apply them to basic questions. Lots of wrote learning is involved. Practise how to answer MCQ questions. You may not always know the right answer but through the process of elimination, you can usually guess which answer seems to be the most reasonable one. As an A level student, i felt this was very important since i would often forget the exact formula or in chemistry, the exact boiling point etc. but common sense and some conceptual understanding got me through. Often enough you run out of time and the best thing to do is to make an educated guess. No negative marking so take your best shot. Also, like a few others have noted, make sure you check the weightage of differnent subjects. Attempt the ones with the most weightage first. This is ususally Mathematics and most candidates have the best chance to score in this section. If your english is weak, leave that section to the end since you cannot afford to waste precious minutes pondering questions since you will almost surely run out of time. Time management is very important. Since each question in a section carries equal marks, know when to give up on a question if you cant solve it in the few minutes you have designated for each question. Move on and complete the section as best as you can. Keep an eye on the clock and first attempt the questions you are absolutely sure about. This ususally means going over the sections in cycles. First the easy ones, then the "maybe i can do this" ones, then pondering the tough ones in whatever time is left.

What is the best way to prepare for medical PG entrance exams in India?

The best way to prepare depends on when you start preparing seriously. If you are an intern and think that you are going to crack the entrance that year with only preparing during internship then forget it you have to take a drop year.If you are in second or third first then it's the best time to start. There are two ways if you are starting very early like in second year you can join physical coaching centres near your college which are usually on weekends. If you are already in final year then online classes are the best option.Analyse the portion first.see the exact mark distribution. Start with revision of first mbbs subjects especially anatomy as it is very volatile.Always buy subject wise best recommended books as advised by others online.Solve as much as possible by registering for online tests. Spending money for subscribing for good quality online test series is definitely worth it.If you do not understand concepts of one topic watch online videos on that topic only.Make your own mnemonics, point wise notes.Complete a topic thoroughly before jumping to the next topic. Many questions are those which are discussed in good ward rounds and clinics .Subscribe to apps like daily rounds etc which discuss interesting case and radiology reports.Concentrate and learn as much as you can from radiology and anaesthesia postings , go out of the way to understand ct scans in depth not superficially as questions on radiology are tough.Focus on image based questions and one liners, lots of videos available on line.Lastly I have seen most students do not study everyday, they have no focus and a very chaltahai attitude. Any student who studies at least 4 to 5 hours a day maybe with a break on Sunday from the first day of mbbs to the last day of internship will get a very good rank that's sure. By studying I mean really studying not day dreaming in front of books. I have yet to see a very hard working student who studies with focus and in a planned way not succeed.PLANNING AND FOCUS ARE THE KEY TO SUCCESS , DO NOT GET LULLED INTO COMPLACENCY AS YOU ATTEND CLASSES. THEY ARE USELESS WITHOUT SELF STUDY.

How should I prepare for the BARC entrance exam (OCES/DGFS)?

no special preparations needed, if u are doing gate preparation. it is the first exam after gate. just the gate type of questions. solve gate previous year question. revise your notes. dont skip maths. maths comes very easy in exam. question are lengthy, usually there is time shortage. feel free to skip all the lengthy questions. do all theory questions and direct formula based questions first.(mechanical). so this a kind of general prep tip.

What are some best mcq books for medical students?

I will disagree with a previous poster and say that multiple choice questions were the cornerstone of my education. As my rowing coach used to say: “you play like you practice.” We are constantly being evaluated via multiple choice exams, so there is really no reason not to use them for practice. Additionally, most of the licensing exams are administered on a computer, and the best resources are also digital question banks. That being said, there are so many resources that it can be difficult to know which ones to use.Assuming you are in the US, or are planning to take the USMLE exams, here are the best and most commonly used Question banks:USMLE World (a.k.a UWorld) - This is THE gold standard in MCQs for board exams. These questions are notoriously difficult, but the questions are well written and the explanations are amazing. Almost every medical student in America will ultimately do these questions. The best part is that they have a QBank for each level of the USMLE exam.USMLE Rx - Made by the same company that creates First Aid (the USMLE Step 1 Bible), this board exam is a small step down from the UWorld in the quality of both questions and explanations. However, don’t let that deter you too much. If you’ve already done the UWorld questions, this is a great supplement to your preparation.TrueLearn/COMBANK - This company is better known for their Osteopathic COMLEX Question Bank, but also have a USMLE product. Most DO students use either this service or COMQUEST for their OMM test prep (our school gave it to us for free). Probably much less useful for non-Osteopathic students.Kaplan USMLE Qbank - Kaplan’s Qbank is a few steps down from UWorld, and it is known for testing more minutiae than bigger high yield topics. Some students swear by this product, but most use it as a supplement to UWorld.Overall recommendations: If you plan on taking the USMLE, purchase/beg/borrow a subscription to UWorld. When you finish those questions, use USMLERx or (if you are a DO student) COMBANK/TrueLearn.More questions about medical school, clean eating, or residency? What do I do to crack the NIMHANS entrance exam for a post-graduation in neurosurgery?

NIMHANS conducts online MCQ based entrance exam for Post MBBS direct Mch/DM neurology & MD Psychiatry course in the last week of march. It conducts a common exam for all these courses and then publishes separate merit list for every course. You have to select the course while applying which cannot be changed later, you can apply for all three or either one or two of them.  It's 2hours test with 150 mcqs with negative marking,1marks for correct response and 1/4 deducted for wrong answer.Roughly around 90-100 questions are asked from 19 mbbs subjects not related to cns that can be answered if one has prepared well for other PGMEE . Difficulty level is not much. These are regular questions from guidebooks.Mostly one liners. The other 50-60 mcqs are related to CNS directly or indirectly and can be answered if one has read neuro aspect of all major subjects viz anat physio medicine psychiatry surgery patho micro pharma radio anaesthesia. Here also the questions are quite solvable provided one has prepared it well during last 10-15days of preparation. Nimhans paper is overall easy compared to aipgme and aiims but since number of seats are very less, the margin of error for silly mistakes are very low. 4-5 easy miss and you may be out of the race because serious contenders won't miss the easy ones .115-120 marks I think should get you psych there and 120-125 marks for Mch/DM but that can vary little up&  down yr to yr. I had 113 marks last year and psychiatry was available at that score. The key according to me would be to keep reading all subjects till last 10 days of exam and then focusing on neurology part in last 10 days so that your preparation level is optimum on exam day and you score well.
