Help My Dog Was Neutered And Now His Scrotum Is Scabbed And Bleeding.

Minor bleeding and scabbing on recently neutered kitten's scrotum?

My cat was neutered about 2 weeks ago. He returned home with no problems: no swelling or inflammation at site of incision, no interest in licking, etc. Thought he was all healed up. Today, I detected very minor bleeding from the incision site, which now appears slightly red with a medium-sized scab. Put his Elizabethan collar back on so he won't lick as much (though he can still reach pretty easily and is consistently trying to lick), applied a bit of Neosporin. It's not bleeding any more, and doesn't seem any more irritated than earlier today when I first noticed it. No puss, no swelling-- just red and scabby. Otherwise, he is acting and eating normally.

Any tips on how I might judge the severity of this problem? Suggested treatment? It seems a little strange that he'd be having a problem two weeks after the neuter when everything seemed fine. Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated, but I'm trying to save a trip the vet unless absolutely necessary. I'm a college student with little money-- I want to do my best for him, but the little guy has already cost me 1000 dollars in the last couple of months...

Many thanks

Help! My dog was neutered and now his scrotum is scabbed and bleeding.?

My dog was fixed last Wednesday and his incision looks fine but his scrotum looks like it is scabbed and is bleeding on the edge of the scab! I would call the vet but it is Sunday and they are closed!

Dog was neutered, does it look infected (picture)?

My 1 year old standard poodle was neutered last thursday. He hasn't been licking it very much, if at all. He has been doing to stairs quite a bit, which I know he shouldn't be doing. I do not allow him upstairs anymore, not until he's recovered.
Does it look infected to you? I think the dark stuff is just dried up blood, is that normal?

My cat just got neutered and his scrotum sac is all crusty. Should I take him back to the vet?

It could be glue. Sometimes that stuff gets a little out of control! It comes in many colors (green, purple, clear). It could also be a little serous discharge. It should be safe to clean it gently with a cloth or gauze dampened with warm water. Just don't scrub the incision. If you see redness, swelling, or you cat is acting strange, call a vet asap. If not, you can wait to call on Monday.

Is my dog's surgical incision healing properly?

There is no redness/swelling/oozing from the incision site? No pain when you touch it?
If the swelling is firm, non painful with none of the above associated with it, then it could be healing tissue - it often swells initially then remodels over time. It could also be a suture material reaction. Sometimes the tissue reacts a little to the suture material - nothing to worry about, again, it will sort itself out.

I'd be inclined to ring the vet anyway and let them know. At 8 days the skin is nearly, but not quite healed - especially in an area of tension as you get over the hip area. It's not worth risking a wound breakdown and be forced to start from the beginning again!

Good luck!

Has your dog had an accident that caused an opening/severing of the scrotum? How did you deal with it?

Within a few minutes of returning home from being neutered, my granddog, a very large pitbull, was bleeding from the incision. We took him back to the vet, who got a bit snippy with us, thinking we had removed the cone of shame and let him chew the sutures. They wanted to try fixing it with surgical glue, but to keep things together I ended up lying on a blanket on the floor, holding his boy parts (the ones left anyway) together for quite some time. The first gluing didn’t hold, and they had to do it again. So here I am, face to face with the least attractive part of him up close and personal.Got him home, and we found out how he got it open when he did it again the next day. With the damn collar still on. He flopped down and army crawled across the floor.

Scabs on my testicles?

When I had dermititus I had scabs all over my body but concentrated around my Penis. I used to get them on the end which stang like a femal dog when I peed.

It could be a number of things. I am not a doctor nor have I seen the scabs you harbour on your love wand so I cannot say.

Go see a GP, then see a second one to confirm what the first one says (Doctors are only human after all). Have you had protected or unprotected sex upto 4 months (16 weeks) prior to scabbing? If so, high risk of herpes, warts amoungst other STD's on offer.

Hope all clears up and you live a fruitful life with no more scabbing of the penis.

What's wrong with my dog's itchy and inflamed balls?

What's wrong is that your dog needs to see the vet immediately.  There is nothing that can be diagnosed over the internet. In addition, I'd wonder why your dog cannot reach his own testicles.  My male dogs all can.  Does he also need to lose weight?

My dog disappears for days at a time, and comes back with scabs all over his body and incredibly dirty inner ears.  What the hell is he doing?

I lived with 4 unfenced dogs on 40 acres of flower farm surrounded by several miles of avocado groves.  Every day, three of them left to patrol their territory in the morning and the evening and then spent most of the day sleeping in the house.  The fourth one, the wanderer, was a girl.  Buni, a tibetian mastiff, was off alone hunting.  No. I take that back.  She was off killing.  Later when we found out we discovered that she had mostly killed coyotes and the occasional deer, but eventually she nearly killed a neighbor's dog. Before we knew what she was up to and put an end to it, we tried several things to wrangle her.  Here is the thing that came closest to working.Dogs, even very independent dogs, have a love of drama and ritual.  My ex and I developed a morning and evening ritual of joyful celebration complete with treats and games - every day at the same time.  We always started my banging a large metal trashcan - a sound that could be heard throughout the canyons.  As the dogs came up the driveway, we'd ask the first arrivals where the other dogs were. "Where's Oso?  Go get Oso so we can get started!  Ok where's Buni!?"  Then all the dogs had to sit still, while we warmed them up as if they were a studio audience.  "Is everyone ready?  Oh look what we have today!!  Is this a cookie?  And this!  Is this a tug toy?"  When they were sitting, at full attention, wiggling in anticipation we'd say "OK LESSGO!"  and spend about 10 minutes playing and tossing treats around.  Then we'd wind down suddenly and sit quietly with them for about fifteen minutes.  They absolutely went bonkers for this, even Buni made it a point to be around at least once a day.  Figuring out how to address having a serial killer as a dog is a whole nother story...It sounds like your big boy is off socializing (mating?), not killing.  I wish you  good luck with him.
