Event Planning career? HELP!!!!?

I've just fell in love with planning events, and want to pursue that career path. I already have a BA from an unrelated major. I know I don't have to get a degree for this type of job, but I think it would be better to get some education. Does anyone know of any good, reputable schools that offer this program/certificate?
I don't want to spend years studying it, something I can earn within the year, and not overly expensive. Better if financial aid can cover it.

Prefer a school in California. Thanks for the help.

The terminology you're using, business/planning manager, is internally contradictory.A business manager runs a business. A planning manager well, that could be defined in any of a dozen ways. So, let's assume that what you really want to target is the universe of strategy consulting that opens up a career trajectory that can lead to running a major corporation. Remember, Jack Welch who rescued GE, Lew Gerstner who saved a moribund IBM, even the CEO that turned a faltering Been & Jerry's around…were all strategy consultant!!I'm going to make the assumption that you're talking about one of the global Strategy Consulting firms…the very pinnacle of the food chain.I don't want to discourage your ultimate goal but, now, with no relevant experience or academic credentials, no Strategy Consulting firm on the planet will hire you.If you're committed to moving in this direction, you'll need an MBA from a tier 1 school ( Harvard, Dartmouth, Chicago, Yale, Stanford, MIT, Columbia, etc.)I'm going to assume you have an undergraduate index of at least 3.5…and that's the bare minimum. The top B schools do not, ever, accept students without 2 or more years of experience, preferably as a junior financial analyst with a major financial institution. You will also need to study and score extremely well on the GREs. In addition, there must be 3 letters of recommendation; it's a big plus if those letters come from alumni of the B schools you're applying to.Finally, you will have to write a compelling letter that conforms to the requirements outlined in the admission requirements from the schools you apply to (don't put all your eggs in one basket; apply to at least 6 and hope one accepts you).Do well in B school and you're on your way…think of it as the ante to a high stakes poker game.Good luck.

Event planning career?

Do you enjoy coordinating all the details of a gathering or celebration? If so, then consider a career in event planning, which will allow you to reap the benefits of your ability to see a project from start to finish.

Tasks
Event planners coordinate and oversee the arranging of meetings, conferences, seminars, festivals, weddings and other occasions. Examples of a planner's responsibilities include budgeting, logistics coordination and promotion of an event.

Skills
Event planners must be excellent communicators and possess strong interpersonal skills. They must have excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Employers
Some event planners work on a freelance basis with new and existing clients. Other work full time for employers such as professional organizations, hotels or firms specializing in planning trade shows and conventions.

Education
An event planner will typically have completed a bachelor's degree in marketing, tourism, communications or hospitality management. Candidates who have completed course work in the latter will have an advantage over others.

Earnings
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the yearly median salary of event planners in 2006 was $42,180.

Advancement
Successful event planners may move on to positions that involve greater responsibility and jurisdiction---for example, program coordinator.

Event Planning as a career..?

Hello, I'm considering becoming an Event Planner and have some questions about the career, the education required, and the steps I would need to take to get to be successful. I've been reading about the career quite a bit but would very much appreciate it if someone could give me an idea of what a day in the life of an event planner really is like. Also, I'm not sure what education is needed for this particular career, nor do I know what schools offer degrees in event planning, if there are even any. Also, would a degree in advertising help me become an event planner or give me some kind of advantage in the field? Any type of information that seems helpful would be very much appreciated, I'm having a hard time figuring out what direction to take my education in and feel that I've finally found the right path for me so thank you in advance.

Help me plan my career?

MBA programs prefer students with 2-4 years work experience after the first degree. Some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. But in those programs you don't get the benefit of learning from other students who have work experience. A lot of valuable learning takes place through class interaction. Also when you graduate your job offers will be about the same as a business undergraduate gets because you have no work experience, and you've been two years out of your undergraduate field so it's hard to get work in that area.

Your best option is to stay on the job for while longer and get promoted. Check to see if ti is possible for your employer to help with your MBA tuition when the time comes. You can't expect to start with an exciting job right out of school. Everyone starts at the bottom with the routine boring jobs. It's part of the learning process.

Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It publishes only official data provided by university administrators, without modifying or editing the data. The Official MBA Guide allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria.

Hi I Desperately need some outside Advice on some Career Options. I am going back to school In January for my Associates Degree (I took the summer semester off). I have two classes under my belt which is my English's and Math are done. Now I am trying to figure out what it is I really wanna do before I go sign up for my Classes...

Its Between The Health Care Field (I am already a CNA) becoming a Nurse either (LPN or RN). I work at a hospital right now and from the looks of it Nursing pays good but their ALL always STRESSED...and Most of them wanna go back for their Masters to do Administration or Teaching... I would like to become a Nurse but I feel getting my LPN would be a better route (Shorter time frame for school,Good Pay, Alot Of Nursing Homes In My Area).. Plus It would give me the experience I need to decide whats the best Move..

My Other Choice would be Radiology Tech or Respiratory..

MY Heart is in Social Work... the Only Problem I have is they don't make alot of Money from what I know... I would enjoy working with children and helping families out because of my Background.

I Just don't know what I should Do... its Either Get my degree in Social Work or Go with the health care field which is always in demand.

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!

Need help planning for College (Future Career)?

If you're interested in possibly working for the game industry, check out my source page. I find it a very enjoyable type of work, and the general atmosphere is laid back and fun. Game Design isn't something you can major in, or get hired right out of college for through. Game designers spend years working in the game industry before achieving that title since it requires an in-depth knowledge of the company's philosophies and workflow. You have to find another way to get started in the game industry if you want to eventaully be a game designer, but I don't know why someone would find it boring...

I can't comment on marine biology or architecture, but only take psychology if you really enjoy the subject and want to dive into it completely. A ton of people enjoy psychology, but there are a ton of psych majors that can't find work, or don't enjoy the jobs they managed to get because psychology was more of a general interest rather than a passionate career choice.

Go to college and focus on just getting through your general coursework, as it's easier to change your major if you get that out of the way first. Also, it gives you the chance to try out explore different areas of education so that you can finally decide what you want to focus in on.
