Help Self Harm Scarring

How can I get rid of self-harm scars?

Anyway…I’m cheating on this. I answer this question SO frequently I have just gotten into copying and pasting. My methods are all from items that are either in your pantry now, or can be found in most grocery stores. They are usually pretty cheap, too, which helps.First, every other day, at least, you should use a mixture of baking soda and water (or powdered rice, or even granulated sugar would work) to exfoliate the skin where your scars are located. You do not have to burn up your skin, normal exfoliation will still help your scars heal! If you don't have problems using this every other day, and you WANT to, you can do it daily, I recommend every other day as standard.Next, you can use either lemon juice or Apple Cider vinegar as a "toner" of sorts. If you use lemon juice (you can buy the bottle - doesn't have to be fresh lemon) but it CAN burn sensitive skin. If you have a reaction don't use it! Lemon and Apple Cider Vinegar are both used to help remove the pigmentation or discoloration that makes scars so noticeable. I always recommend that if a person uses lemon juice to ONLY leave it on for a few minutes and then to wash it off - lemon juice can be a caustic substance to skin. Apple Cider vinegar is far less problematic, but many people may prefer washing it off as well, although I do leave mine on. You can use lemon and Apple Cider vinegar daily - twice daily if you find that it doesn't bother you.Following that, then for a "moisturizer"..., Bio-oil, cocoa butter, shea oil, Vitamin E oil, Coconut oil, Aloe Vera, and I recently heard that Rosehip Seed Oil has AMAZING properties for scar healing (although I have never tried it myself). One of the most important things to always remember about any scars is that while you are trying to heal and remove scars is to avoid sun. Sun will automatically darken the skin around it making the scar more noticeable. Use sunscreen, sunblock, keep scars covered. My method of scar removal is a lot cheaper and a lot more effective than a lot of the expensive methods - it's also not loaded in chemicals that you cannot pronounce and have no idea whether or not they are damaging something in your body.

How to get rid of self harm scars fast?

Virgin coconut oil has the ability to heal wounds. When applied to the wound or burn, at regular intervals, coconut oil soothes and quickens the healing process and prevents scarring. Honey has the capacity to heal wounds naturally. Its anti-septic and anti-microbial qualities prevent inflammation and infection that may be caused by various germs. The anti-oxidants present in honey help in the rejuvenation of damaged skin, preventing the formation of an ugly scar. Banana pulp is another effective remedy for healing wounds as it reduces inflammation and soothes the skin. If the area affected is large, it is advisable to apply banana paste and cover the area with some gauze to quicken the healing process. Vitamin E is crucial for healing. Rubbing the affected area with it will prevent scarring or may gradually fade away an existing scar. Almond oil and olive oil are also beneficial as they have properties similar to those of vitamin E. Lemon juice is known for its natural bleaching quality. Applying a liberal layer of lemon juice to the affected area daily (half an hour before a bath) will gradually lead to the disappearance of the scar. Cucumber juice, tomato juice and potato juice also have the ability to lighten scars.

A diet loaded with green leafy vegetables and fruits especially rich in vitamin E and vitamin C will accelerate the healing process with minimal scarring. However, the time taken for removal of the scar may range from a few days to years depending on the depth and nature of the wound. Resorting to scar removal remedies as soon as the injury takes place will ensure a speedy removal or lightening of the scar. Once the scar is formed completely, it is almost impossible to get rid of it.

Does ice help self harm scars?

No, ice will not help you reduce scars.
You need anything that forces your skin to peel and renew itself. Like Glycolic peels, Retin-A (you can buy it on Amazon for $100+ or get a prescription and buy it cheaper), Amlactin, Retinols, etc. It will take time to minimize the scar (when I say time I mean 1-2 years for about 20-30% reduction). You have to use it daily.

Bio oil and vitamin E will help moisturize the skin but they are not strong enough to make any difference even in 2-3 years period.

I have used Micro Needle Roller on my scars. It is not fast either. It takes 4 weeks for your skin to shed the old layer and about 4-7 months to see any changes with the roller.

What is it like to live with self harm scars?

*Trigger Warning*I used to work at Kmart, it had all glass windows. It hit 100 degrees outside frequently. It was worse inside. I was a cashier, I wore a black long sleeved shirt under my uniform shirt, scared of getting judged. It took me 4 months to stop wearing that shirt underneath and get the courage to let the scars show. With that first day of showing them, 6 customers made rude comments that almost made me want to quit my job.Feeling scared to wear a bathing suit. It took me until this year to wear a one piece without shorts and a shirt over it.Every job interview, even in summer, even when walking to it, I had a long sleeve shirt. The first time I wore shorts and t-shirts to school, I was called out of class 8 times in one day because the guidance counselor had to check every note given to make sure I was ok. So 8 people felt they had to write notes to have the counselors check on me. And they were all very clearly old scars.Even now people stare at me. I can't go to the grocery store without someone staring as I reach for a gallon of milk. Each and every time I go to a new doctor or each new foster home or school (when that age) they feel they have to do a “safety contract”.I often get accused of lying when I go to a new doctor. They say I'm lying about stomach surgery, wrist surgery, etc. Then once they finally believe me, I sign that contract.Quite a few homeless shelters refused to accept me because they said that those scars didn't look old. Or they call in several staff to stare at my arms and legs until someone decides they're old… making me feel super awkward as I'm getting stared at.My scars itch when they get dry. And then people freak out and say I'm self harming again by scratching my scars.Any injury I get, any scratch, bruise, cut, or broken bone, it's assumed I did it to myself on purpose and often delays medical treatment or I just won't go get medical treatment.

How long will it take for a self-harm scar to fade? I think it was 2 mm deep. I really need to know. What can I do to speed up this process?

I have self-harmed on my forearm last year in February and March. My wounds varied from as shallow as your to cutting all of my layers of skin. I still have the scars, almost a year later, but some are more or less visible than others. When my mom found out she made me use creams to help the wounds heal, and it helped in scarring faster. I don’t know where you live, so I can’t search up something specific for you to use in this regard, but I’m sure there are some other ways to make them fade faster, one answer already put a link to help you with that. How to Get Rid of ScarsEasy Ways to Get Rid of Scars Fast | LEAFtvIt takes a long time for scars to fade, I have some that even after years and years they are as visible as day.I don’t know if I should make a photo of my scars to show you how much they fade in a year’s time, but if you ask I will edit the answer and put one.

Do self harm scars ever go away?

There are Multiple Possibilities to this QuestionFirstly, i’m going to skip over the message of to never cut (seriously people never start, it ain't worth it), and to get some help, because by the wording of the question, it sounds like its to late. Now for the answer. It would depend on the depth of the cut. Most light cuts that don't draw much blood, should fade away within a year or so, but will be almost invisible with 3 months.Deeper cuts I find take longer to fade. My oldest have faded to being almost invisible unless looked for, within two years. They do leave an indent in the skin though. This may not leave, dependant on the depth. How quick a scar fades is also dependant on where the cut is situated. Some areas, such as your arms or thigh fade a lot quicker, compared to areas like your ankle or foot. This is what I find anyway.A major thing to consider in reducing scars is to stop self harming. I know this sounds simpler than it is, but they don't leave unless you stop. Trust me I understand what your going through. Also there are a number of creams and lotions that can help fade scars. Personally I used lemon juice to fade burns on my wrists. It stung like crazy, But Now They Are Gone!! If U look into that sought of stuff you'll find all soughts of stuff.Seriously, I hope they will leave for you soon. Never give up hope and never give up on life. Things will change eventually.Edit: If you could comment or upvote I would really appreciate it, as I'm trying to work on my writing style and it lets me know if this is a good answer or not. :)
