Hes Back Leg Is Swollen

Chinchilla's back leg is swollen, help?

For the moment, confine him to a cat carrier or something small with no ledges so that he can not jump or fall on it. He is most likely in pain from either a fracture, broken bone or swelling in general. Watch to make sure he's not chewing on the area, as when chinchillas are in pain they will chew to the bone to try to stop the pain. Also watch to see if he is eating well and pooping regularly. If he is lethargic, he needs a vet ASAP.

You have to be careful with broken bones with chinchillas, as they do not heal well and a lot of times lead to amputations. If things get worse, try to find a vet that can do an x-ray to make sure the bone is not broken. He will need to be put under for the x-ray. It's expensive, but if there is something serious, then the sooner you catch it, the cheaper you may come out in the long run. It's a sad reality, but when you took in this chinchilla, you took on full responsibility of his health. Chinchillas in pain can go into shock, which if not treated properly can be fatal. Restrict playtime and be careful in the future after he is healed when letting him out. Good luck.

Swollen lymph nodes in our dog?

You sound like an excellent pet owner! Very in tune with your pets needs and feelings.

Swollen lymph nodes could be many things and yes, lymphoma is one. But, it could simply be he has an infection and is trying to fight something off (just like humans).

You vet will do a physical exam and may suggest blood work after getting a history from you. This will tell them many things, including if it's just a mere infection being fought off. Blood work may even be suggested to be repeated in 2-4 weeks to check for various changes.

Don't worry or stress just yet. I hope it's a simple infection and nothing more, but good luck!

My dog's right hind leg is hot and swollen?

Starting from last night, my dog's right hind leg began to bother him. He was favoring it and limping slightly. Then today when I checked him I found that from his paw to the joint is swollen and warm and puffy to the touch. It doesn't hurt him to stretch his leg, but when he bends it is when it bothers him the most. He won't put any weight on it and just walks on three legs.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with him?

I appreciate any and all help!!

My cat's hind leg is swollen. Is it broken?

It might be broken. Then again it may only be soft tissue damage, a bruise that will go away without intervention. Wait a day to see if he’s getting better. If he is in pain even when he rests, cannot eat or drink, take him to the vet rigth away. If he’s in an ok mood, but is not bearing his weight on the foot, and the swelling does not seem to get worse, wait a day or two to see if he’ll improve. Try a cold pack on the swelling. If he doesn’t let you, hisses at you, doesn’t lick his paw or lets you touch it even lightly, he is obviously in too much pain then there’s more of a chance that it is serious. If nothing improves, take him to a vet no later than the third day. No vet here, just personal opinion. If you did not see the accident, or if you dont know the swelling is due to a trauma, be more cautious. Make sure your pet has no fever, or anything cut, bleeding, infected etc. Err on the side of caution if it seems to be something more than physical trauma and dont hesitate to take him to the vet right away. That’s how I would evaluate the situation in any case.I dont understand people who tell you to take him to a vet right away, not to keep a pet if you can’t afford it, refuse to give an opinion etc. First of all, it’s a lot of money, and not many people can take their pets to the vet everytime something seems wrong. Dont have pets if you can’t afford it? How can you say that when so many millions of pets are euthanized in shelters in western countries every year? Please have a heart, both for the pet and the owner’s financial situation. Sure, there are some stingy pet owners who neglect their cats, but do not assume the person asking the question is one of them. Consider the possibility, make your warning, then simply write what you would do if you couldn’t easily afford a vet. I’m sure the owner realizes very well that he’s not getting professional opinion, he’s just trying to assess the situation and have an idea of what others would do in his place.

My cat has a swollen leg and is limping after the FVRCP vaccine?

Some cats do have reactions to the Distemper vaccine even if they've had the shot 12 times before. This is one of the main reasons I choose to NOT have my cats vaccinated every single year as vets (who actually do research) have learned that annual vaccination is over doing it. My cat's vet has recommend I do the 1 yr Distemper every other year; not the 3 yr shot, but the 1 yr shot.

You need to call and explain the circumstances to the vet's office and they will let you know if he needs to be seen, although it sounds like he needs to be seen pronto as this must be an allergic reaction and could be fatal.

My sons bearded dragon has front swollen legs and toes. cant move his legs properly. and isnt eating his food!

your dragon may have problems with shedding. if he has any trace of old skin on him, raise the humidity in your tank to
help him shed it off. otherwise, that sounds pretty curios. if
it doesn't go away in a couple of days, bring him to the vet.

My rat's rear right leg is swollen completely below the ankle?

I've experienced this many times before (what rat owner hasn't?) Rats have very special ways of getting themselves hurt, but this honestly sounds like something you will be able to handle without the help of a vet. Just follow these instructions and your little one will be fine. The best immediate treatment is a cold compress to help prevent swelling. If the leg is just swollen and there is no breakage of the skin, you can try an anti-inflammatory drug. I have frequently treated rat injuries with ibuprofen. You can use children's liquid (the berry flavor seems to be popular with rats) or you can grind up a tablet and mix it in a soft tasty food. When using the liquid ibuprofen, I recommend giving the rat a tasty treat afterwards to mask any bitter aftertaste that will cause the rat to refuse future doses. If you use a tablet, only use just under a quarter of the pill once a day. Liquid form, only a drop a day. Also, if the leg is broken, certainly use the ibuprofen and cold compress, and try to get your rat to rest (difficult, but try, haha). Most broken legs can heal on their own, even breaks near the ankle joint that are floppy.

My only other recommendation is to make sure that your rat is no longer in a cage with a wire bottom (I'm assuming that's what you have.) They are very unsafe. You should never house a rat in a cage that has a wire bottom. Having wire walls is great, but there needs to be some solid surface in the cage so as to prevent injuries and bumblefoot.
