Hey Lord Tennyson Poem Help

Lord Tennyson's poem- Ulysses?

The Hyades is a cluster of stars visible in the constellation Taurus. The ancient Greeks believed that the stars brought rainsqualls (the name 'Hyades' means 'Rainbringers'). So Tennyson says that the rainstorms annoy (vex) the otherwise flat and placid surface of the sea (the sea is dim because it is night time).

Ulysses says that he and the other heroes at Troy 'moved earth and heaven' because they destroyed Troy (moved earth) and by doing so annoyed the gods (and heaven).

A major theme of the poem is how everything a hero does, he does on earth (since we live on earth). But the things we do on earth can have an importance fary beyond earth itself.

What does this poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson mean?

Its called Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal
[ as seen in Vanity Fair ]

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kQ4Ia9Q5hXU

Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The firefly wakens: waken thou with me.

Now droops the milk-white peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.

Now lies the Earth all Danaë to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.

Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, as thy thoughts in me.

Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake:
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

Please help me analyse it !

Alfred Tennyson "Ulysses". Help!?

There are various interpretations of these lines, each of which shows up in a different section.
My interpretation here would not be considered “literary.”

This is Ulysses speaking of himself:
To follow knowledge like a sinking star, Beyond the utmost bound of human thought.

This is Ulysses speaking of himself and his old, adventurous colleagues:
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

In the first line quoted, Ulysses is saying, “Yeah, damn, I’ve gotten old. But I can still show these whippersnappers. Bums, all of ‘em. They wouldn’t have lasted a day against the teams in my day – hell, give me a ball and a playing field so I can show them how a real man plays the game.”

In the second line quoted, Ulysses is saying, “Hey, guys, let’s get the band back together! Remember how cool it was? We can still rock. Dudes, are you really happy with your pencil-pushing and number crunching? We’re older now, but our music is 10 times better than that crap they call ‘rock’ or ‘rap’ or ‘hip-hop-who-knows’. We’ll have to get back in shape maybe, but the drive is there.”

You realize this is a fairly irreverent interpretation, but I think it’s a valid translation.

Below are sources for analyses more finely stated.

What are some poems that cheer you up?

A poem that has always cheered me up and kept me going is 'IF' by Rudyard Kipling. I never came across anything as powerful and brilliantly written as this one. Its basically a dad's message to his son on how to be strong and to be at peace in life.If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss;If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much;If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Named after a poem?

I'm looking for baby names, male and female, that are also poem titles, poem character names, book titles, or maybe even song or movie titles. Examples of what I'm looking for are...
Bob Dylan's "Visions of Johanna" (Song)
Longfellow's "Evangeline" (Poem)
I'd greatly appreciate it if you could post if the name is from a poem, song, book, etc, just as I did above. Thank you very much to anyone who is willing to help. =)

In Hellboy 2 what is the poem Princess Nuala reads?

it's called In Memoriam by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Be near me when my light is low,

When the blood creeps, and the nerves prick

And tingle; and the heart is sick,

And all the wheels of Being slow.

Be near me when the sensuous frame

Is rack’d with pangs that conquer trust;

And Time, a maniac scattering dust,
And Life, a Fury slinging flame.

Be near me when my faith is dry,

And men the flies of latter spring,

That lay their eggs, and sting and sing
And weave their petty cells and die.

Be near me when I fade away,

To point the term of human strife,

And on the low dark verge of life

The twilight of eternal day.

hope that helps :D

What point of View is This poem?

I'm in an Argument with my Parents about the Point of view of one of the lines in this Poem. I don't mean like the 1rst,2nd or 3rd point of View thing. I've already Determined The poem is Written in 3rd Person. I'm reading the Eagle by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Tell me, What point of view is the sea being described in this line? That is, Who's view is given?

Ringed With the azure world, he stands
The Wrinkled sea beneath him crawls

I keep Telling them it's from the Narrator's point of view but they insist it's the eagles point of view. which is it?
