Thailand: What's it like to stay in a 5 star hotel in Ko Samui?

It's an amazing experience, but there's one thing you have to pay attention to: local norms are slightly different and some so-called 5 star hotels on the island are not up to what "big brands" offer a few meters away. Six Senses, Four Seasons, SALA hotels, Anantara Resorts, Intercontinental and others allow you to not only get great views and services, but also awesome spa and boat trips. The level of service will be amazing, breakfast food usually rocks and you'll get your own PA in several hotels. My advice: you're in Koh Samui, splurge with a private pool villa, not a room. Starts from 200 dollars sometimes.

What's the best hotel in Koh Samui in Thailand?

We had originally booked a hotel in Koh Samui, but once we got there it was horrible and decided to get a refund immediately. We called a friend who works in a Travel Agency and he recommended us a resort were he usually sends couples in honeymoon. We booked that same day Chaweng Regent Beach Resort, which was pretty expensive but worth the cost to enjoy some days of relax. All the resort is divided in Bungalows, with all you could need inside. This is the standard bungalow, but there are also more expensive ones that have a Jacuzzi inside. This is the walkaway that leads to every bungalow. The hotels has two different pools. This one is the pool that is next to the sea. This is the second pool, which is more towards the interior of the Resort. This is the Hotel Restaurant. They serve complementary breakfast everyday, with a huge variety (literally anything you could want), and also lunch and dinner. We ate lunch many times here, as the food is great and also not expensive. The hotel is located in Chaweng, in one of Koh Samui’s main roads. There are tons of great restaurants in this area. Finally, this is the Hotel’s Beach. The sea in this area is enclosed therefore you can swim safely.Want to know more about the Chaweng Regent Beach Resort? Click here

How Much Would It Be To Rent Out A Hotel Pool?

The rate is very likely to be variable, depending on a number of factors. I'm familiar with renting out other hotel facilities (meeting rooms, etc.), and here's how it works:

The more you're spending at the hotel, the cheaper it'll be. If you're having the party catered by the hotel, for instance, it'll be cheaper. If you're booking some guest rooms there, it'll be cheaper. On a meeting room, for instance, the stated rate might be $1,000. You might be able to negotiate that down to $800 just by asking. You might be able to get that down to $400 if you do a morning coffee break and lunch at the hotel. And if you also book 25 guest rooms, you might get the room for free.

You also don't say where the hotel is (New York City? Omaha, Nebraska?). Or how many rooms it has. Or what the room rack rate is. Or anything else. Nor do you say how many hours you want to rent it for: 2? 3? 4? All of those go into giving you a number.

So, sure, $400 might be enough. Or maybe $150. Or maybe $2,500. It really depends.

One tip: Always negotiate. There is no set, fixed price. Sure, you'll be quoted a price. View that as a starting number in a negotiation.

Hope that helps.
