How About Thinking Of Sri Lanka

What do you think about Sri lanka ?

Sri Lanka is a lovely tropical island nation off the coast of India. The people are kind and the food is delicious. For detailed information you might want to checkout the Sri Lanka Vacation Guide at Travelwizard.com (http://www.travelwizard.com/indianocean/sri-lanka-vacation/).

There are two aspects to this - traditional and modern.Sri Lankan culture is heavily influenced by India. The history of Sri Lanka is inextricably intertwined with that of India - migrations, conquests, trade exchanges, etc.If you are Buddhist or Hindu, India in front and center when studying religion. It is strange that Theravada Buddhism flourished in Sri Lanka, while it pretty much died out in India. When it comes to modern influences, it’s politics, Bollywood, fashion, and of course cricket. The classical Indian dance of bharatanatyam is also popular in Sri Lanka, especially with Tamil girls, although now a lot of Sinhala girls are also taking it up.(The girl in the video is Indian.)So what do we think of Indians? We think it’s a huge country with rich cultural traditions. We think of a country filled with ancient buildings - palaces in Jaipur, the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort, etc. etc.We think that their food tends to be more aesthetic and varied, but in general milder than ours. We think Indian people are better looking than us, because that’s what we’ve seen in movies. :) (And of course everyone in the country looks like a movie star, right? About the highest appearance related compliment a Sri Lankan person - male or female - can get, is that that they look like an Indian movie star.)When most Sri Lankan women hear “India”, they have a Pavlovian response because of …http://southindiajewels.com/kaza...

Sri Lanka isn’t too bad, it’s actually quite similar to India. I don’t live there, I can only talk about stories that my parents have told me as I’m a first generation American. The only reason I was born in America and still live in America is because my parents were forced to leave due to the decades long war that completely changed the country and currently defines it in a way.Sri Lanka is a very little known place. Usually people automatically assume I’m Indian because, well, my skins brown and that’s typically associated with India. When I tell them that I’m from this place called Sri Lanka, they’re confused because they don’t know much about it. Even if people do know about Sri Lanka the thing that defines it is “Oh that’s the place with the big war.”Sri Lanka is rich with history, a lot of the statues and sculptures that are seen are typically based in Buddhist beliefs as that’s the primary religion in the country. It has a long history with british rule and invasions. There were two things that changed the country upside down, and that was the tsunami and the civil war. The civil war forced may to flee and as a result that’s why you see increased populations of sri lankans in the US, UK, and Canada. The tsunami destroyed everything in it’s path, almost everyone was affected and some are still affected by it.Sri Lanka was and still is a great country, but there were a lot of things that changed the entire landscape of the country and it’s global perception. One positive note is that Sri Lanka is the biggest exporter of cinnamon in the world, which is something a lot of people don’t know.

What do u think of SRI LANKAN food?

Wonderful, I lived in Sri lanka or Ceylon ,as it used to be known.
The food is generaly like that of the south of India, hot and spicey. The use of coconut milk gives a super flavour.

Many of the dishes are fish,or vegetables, a large proportion of the population are vegeterian, for both reasons of, religion and poverty.

Popular meat is chicken and goat.

Beef is not common as the cow is a sacred animal to the Hindus.

I have hundreds of recipes from this island and am always prepared to share them.

I am not sure about every Sri Lankan. But when I think of Pakistan, here’s what come to my mind:I thank Pakistan for the support they showed us during 1996 Cricket World Cup Final. I was 4 years old when the historic final happened, but I’ve seen the replays.I thank Pakistan for the weapons they sold to us during the fight against LTTE terrorists.I wish what I hear in the news about religious extremists in Pakistan could get resolved. You can keep on being Islamic, but not so extreme about it. Look at UAE.Thanks to User-10826600908119530736 for asking to answer.

There are mixed opinions and feelings among Sri Lankans about India. Some do think and believe that as a large, strong, and powerful neighbor India has a huge role to play in the future and development of Sri Lanka. Some see India as a bully and not to be trusted for having a hidden agenda against Sri Lanka. One of the main reasons for this suspicion is the role India took in allowing the LTTE Tamil Tigers to be created and nurtured in Tamil Nadu which caused a thirty year war in the island with much suffering, destruction, and hatred between the two main ethnic groups. The Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) that was sent to Sri Lanka to try and maintain a ceasefire between the terrorists and the Sri Lankan Government also failed in all their attempts to bring a settlement. It is believed that the IPKF didnt really mean to bring the desired peace and they only fuelled the fire.

What do you think about Sri lanka cricket?

they are like a flickering light bulb really. one time they play while they've totally lost it and other times they just smack the game! there are very surprising players. dilhara sometimes gives away like 8 runs per over but over the recent matches that he PLAYED, he absolutely shined.
when the greatest of players like sanath is shifting away from the game as he is very close to retiring, we have players like mahela who'd now definitely past the margin of 40 when batting, and also the quick scoring guys like dilshan, vaas and probably the young player upul t.
we can't forget malinga the slinger and murali who's still got it since 1996. so they have a very consistent and quality players; they have little of everything. bless them!

First of all ramayana is a hindu epic written by valkimi. Majority of srilankans are Buddhists. You have seen answers written by sri Lankan Tamil Hindus but still that’s doesn't reflect every sri lankans view because 75% of sri Lanka are Sinhalese and Buddhists and 10% are Muslims/ moors. We majority sri Lankans are Buddhists and have less knowledge about the this epic. There's a fact that most indians are not aware about the sinhalese or majority of lankans have their origin in india. Bengal and orissa mostly. And they are buddhists. Even genetically very closer to bengalis with minor tamil and gujarat influence. There are evidences to ancient aboriginal tribe called yakka. Similar to Rakshya in ramayana. But according to our official history the ancestors of ours have killed them. (According to mahavamsa /chronicles of srilanka ).Even lanka is not the actual name it should be sinhala dveepa or sinhale. The foreign merchants referred this island seilan, serandip or ceylon (british ) which derived from word sinhale. The name srilanka was given by slpf government from srilankan constitution 1972. Because most of don't believe in ravan.Even if he had existed. He's mostly related to aboriginal tribe i have mentioned. Nothing to do with us no one here consider ravana as a god.Tamil hindus may believe it.But still they are also indians no connection with ravan.Sorry i don’t think these types of questions dosen’t even make a sence. However it's your religion , beliefs . We can't change that. We do respect others beliefs.

.I would say Sinhala people are some of the down to earth, friendly, warm people on earth. Although all these given attributes belongs to entire desi people in entire Indian subcontinent I feel Sinhalese can be guaranteed example of these feats and they go extra mile in all these attribute. As a Sri Lankan Tamil I consider although we are very distinct still Sinhalese are very close in culture than anyone else in Indian subcontinent. Even Tamils in Tamil Nadu or Malayalees in Kerala not close to us like Sinhalese in culture. (I'm taking here about culture not politics and ideologies, If we talk about that we are close to Tamil Nadu)The Language Sinhala is beautiful. Although as an indo Aryan it contain samskrutam root, well it has considerable number of unique words which you will never find in samskrutam or in any prakrutam.Country to the popular belief that Sinhalese are weak there were many brave Sinhala kings who kept on fighting with invading south Indian armies such as cholas. Sinhalese are brave for the size. Main reason they have to loose some war because of size of the army. They even sent expeditary forces to east Asian countries. They have asked to fight in many war in south India. There is also mention of Sinhala fighting for pandavas in Mahabharata. Well this is far before the arrival of Prince Vijaya. It's only because of those brave Sinhalese we have a separate county instead of it's becoming Sinhala Pradesh and for worse Dakshinadweep of India. Is it a bad things or good thing is another debate. Depend on who you are.To be honest I have no love for Sinhalese cusine. This is my opinion. In my opinion Sinhalese cusine is the worse in whole Indian subcontinent. I'm sorry to break this but this my personal opinion. Some foreigners do like Sinhala cuisine.I'm also not a great fan of Sinhalese traditional clothing, folk dancing, folk songs etc. But others may like. Many Sinhalese follow way of Buddhism. It's one of the pacifist scientific religion in earth according to scriptures and teaching. But using any great thing for identities rather than following it internally always going to yield in problem for those don't want to have that identity.I also some what dislike the fact they like the government agenda to keep Sri Lanka as country of Buddhism. Buddhism is a fantastic philosophy. But making a country belong to particular set of believe or philosophy will always contain seperatist elements in minorities.
