How Big Is Yahoo Before Google

What came first? Google or Yahoo?

Google started in January 1996 as a reasearch project of Larry Page while Yahoo which was founded by Jerry Yang started in March 1995. So in conclusion, YAHOO CAME FIRST.

Did Yahoo search have autocomplete before Google search?

Today, Google's revenues are 25x Yahoo's, whereas 10 years ago Yahoo was dominant. How did Yahoo lose market dominance? Was this inevitable or could Yahoo have averted the decline of its revenues and market share?

Yahoo didn't lose market dominance per se. Yahoo is still minting money, it's just that Google makes so much more. Until recently, Yahoo wase still the best at everything that was making money in 1998 -- banner ads, republishing content, directory services, branding tie-ins. They just failed to transition to the newer business models. Google also had much more than a business model going for it -- they had a visionary approach to engineering. Yahoo might have been doomed to fail but it was not a given that there would be a competitor which leaped five or six years into the future and managed to keep most of their advantages under wraps.Success also made the many areas of Yahoo very complacent. Even now, there are more people using Yahoo Mail than Gmail.Yahoo also lost its status as the place for smart hackers to go; Google and other businesses have vacuumed up most of the real talent. There are still great engineers at Yahoo but they tend to come along with acquisitions, or are concentrated in a few teams that are kicking ass like YUI. In any case management doesn't really seem to have the knack of supporting engineering efforts -- big new ideas aren't exploited, and even must-do efforts (like the new Ad platform) get bogged down. Unlike Google, at Yahoo, engineers take a back seat to product managers and designers. So while Yahoo is more short-term focused, they also tend to miss interesting engineering opportunities, or are unable to tell what engineering ideas are worth exploring. Ideas that would be laughed out of the first tech review committee meeting at Google are pursued for years at Yahoo. What's more interesting is why Yahoo failed to become Facebook. They understood that something was happening in social networks well before Google did, and made acquisitions like Delicious and Flickr. But again, perhaps there was just a failure of vision -- the Yahoo model is to think of their sites as media properties with audiences, and bolder ideas like one social network encompassing them all was never a priority. Even if top executives wanted to see revolutionary change at Yahoo, most of the organization was set up to do deals with Purina Puppy Chow and to ask if Flickr wanted to create a special site for dog photos. (That isn't a real example, but it is the kind of thing that Yahoo does).

What was life like B.G. (Before Google)?

People went to a thing called the library. It was very difficult. You had to go to a building that had a lot of books and you had to ask a librarian (a person that worked at this building) or you had to get a reference card and that would tell you where the info that you were looking for was located. You then had to go to a section that had the books or magazines and you had to read the info that you were looking for. I don't even think that you want to know what life was like before the internet. No email, no chat rooms, NO MYSPACE. Life was not worth living.

Why isn't Yahoo in the big picture like before?

following are the reason for Yahoo fall:-technical and engineering failurenot building fast search ecosystem as Google do they keep on working and improving file system.fails in fixing continuous errorlack of server flexibility which causes loss of resource and slow processworking on quick fixes instead of thinking or working on long term result
