How about preemptive war? The decision to invade Iraq was the worst foreign policy blunder in modern history. 4,000 Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died. Remember Shock and Awe? It was the random destruction of residential neighborhoods in the hope of hitting someone important. And think of the marketing job. We’ll be welcomed as Liberators. The insurgency is in its last throes. Major combat operations have ended. We don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud. If we don’t fight them there we’ll have to fight them here. It was a disgusting and shameful chapter in American History, followed by the worst economic crash since the Great Depression. By comparison, President Obama is doing very well, domestically and internationally.
