How Can I Factory Reset My Apple Ibook

How can I factory reset my apple ibook?

I have a 2003-2004 model ibook model number A1005. I bought it from someone on Facebook. It works decent. I just want it to original settings so I can make it mine. Step by step instructions would be great or a link for them. I've tried searching and contacting apple but it's to old and I'm not paying $20 for them to say they can't help. So is there a way to do what I'm askin?

Reset Apple iBook G4?

Not sure what you did by "using the discs", so I'll ignore that.

Here is the simplest way to get a new admin account and put the old accounts in the "closet":

Your best option is to ask the owner of this computer to make an admin account for you. If you manage to make an account when the owner doesn't approve, you will get caught and it won't be good. Naughty, naughty.

On the other hand, if you found this computer on a park bench and you want to add your own, fresh admin account:

Restart holding ⌘ and the S key.

Type:
/sbin/mount -uw /

Press Return.

Type:
rm /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb
Press Return.

Type:
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Press Return.

Type:
reboot

Press Return.

This sets your computer back to a default NetInfo configuration, as it was when you first installed Mac OS X. When the computer is finished starting up, the Setup Assistant will appear. At that point, all previous user account home folders have been moved to a new folder called "Deleted Users", and an administrator account has already been created with the name "Administrator" and no password. If you don't go forward to personalize account (for example, you simply power off at the first screen of the setup), whomever uses the computer will have one admin account with no password, and will have any old user home folders in the "Deleted Users" folder.

If you want the computer to act like a new one, fresh out of the box, so to speak, but with any updates and third-party software still installed, you would need to do the steps above, but after the "rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" command...

Type:
rm -r /Users

Press Return.

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to shut off.

If your goal was to get totally back to square one, like a new computer (with all the wear and tear, of course), you would do an Erase and Install, and follow the steps needed to either setup an account or avoid setting up an account as explained above.

How do you restore factory settings to an IBook?

The best way to do this without making a huge project is to create a new username and delete the old one. Follow these steps and you should be good to go in 5 minutes.

1. Click the small apple logo at the top left of the screen
2. Click "System Preferences"
3. Click "Accounts"
4. Click the plus sign at the bottom of the account list
5. Make an administrator account and leave the password field blank. Under password hint, write "No password". This will make it easy for the next user if they are prompted.
6. Once you have created the new administrator account, exit system preferences
7. Click the apple logo again and click "log out"
8. Log in with the different username
9. Go to system preferences and delete your old user account. When it asks about deleting the home folder, say YES!

The only thing that should be left on the computer are you programs. If you want to delete them, just navigate to the applications folder and drag items into the trash.

Hope this helps!

How do i restore my ibook g4 to its factory settings?

First, it is not G5 that it has been updated to -- that's the name of a processor chip. Do you mean OSX 10.5?

Do you have the OSX disks it came with?
If you do, then you can boot the machine from the install disks (hold down "C" as the machine boots up) and one of the top menu options on the installer will be Utilities - select Reset Password and you can choose a new password.

If you don't ask the seller to provide the disks, they should have come with the machine.

Is the apple iBook g4 outdated?

no matter what some fanboys will try to tell you... any Mac with a G3, or G4, or G5 processor is totally worthless to 99% of people. The only people that is not worthless to would never even have to ask the question if it was outdated or not... if you have to ask, then yes, its worthless to you. If you want a Mac to do those things, at bare minimum it MUST have an Intel processor.

How do you properly reset a PowerBook G4 back to factory settings?

Insert the DVD that came with it. Boot the PowerBook holding down the C key. Use Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, then reinstall OS X from the DVD.If you do not have the original disc, you can get close enough with the retail version of either the version it came with* or a newer version no later than Leopard.*Provided it will run well enough on that to download the updates to make that specific model work. For example, my iBook came with Tiger, but when I had to reload it, all I had was the retail disc, version 10.4.0. My trackpad wouldn’t work until I’d run Software Update, but it functioned well enough otherwise. Some may do far worse.)
