How Can I Find Out If My Horse Is Registered

Find out if your horse is registered?

Ive tried to find out the same thing when i purchased a mare from a horse trader in TN. I contacted AQHA and they stated that you had to have registration number of the horse, know the horses parents or the registered owners name and AQHA number. I asked if they could find out if i sent the hair and they stated that they just typed the horse you are registering that they couldnt cross reference to find out who the parents were. Now this might have changed in 10 yrs but i think its still the same. You can look on their site for their email address and ask these questions or can call them like i did.
As for other labs being able to tell you whether the horse is registered, I don't think they would be able to do that unless they had access to AQHA database. Once again these are questions for AQHA to answer. They can tell you whether the results from other labs will help in the search.
The horse i purchased doesn't know whether or not she has papers all she knows it that she is loved now and always will be. the papers don't make the horse, the horse makes the papers.

What does it mean if a horse is double registered?

yes, a horse that is registered multiple times!

I have a paint mare that is a quarter horse paint. I can register her with AQHA and APHA. (probably also with the "blue eyed horse registration" and the "spotted/colored sport horse registry" [don't know their requirements...] , etc.)

I double registered horse is one that has been registered with 2 horse registries.

Good luck!

Can I change my horse's JC registered name?

I believe you can change the reg name it just costs a pretty penny. they have to have his/her tattoo # also to verify they are changing the correct name. As far as coggins and show namsgo you could call it Elmer's Glue and they wouldn't care so long as your horse has a neg coggins test:) My mare's reg name is Zippos Sunette and her coggins have Big Girl on them (that's her barn name) What you call your horse for a show is strictly up to you. You just couldn't race the horse again under a different name unless the JC papers reflect the name change:)

AQHA DOES allow name changes it costs 150.00 I think to do so

How can I get my horse papered?

In this situation, I'm sorry, but it won't be possible, unless in exceptional cases. For example, my foals get their papers as their sire and dam are graded with the breed society, have provable lineage and they're all DNA tested. If my stallion covers an approved mare, I give the owner of that mare a covering certificate, which enables them to apply to the breed society for registration of their foal.In exceptional circumstances, you can get your stallion papered by a breed society by invitation, but he will have to be extremely special with provable talent and genetic makeup so outstanding that the breed society will allow his DNA to enter the lineage of potentially many future papered foals.Hev x

Is it possible to register an un registered horse?

I know nothing about her background, or her parents... previous owners said they got her from an auction as a yearling, if she was ever bred, would that baby be able to be registered? she is a beautiful QH btw

Can I double register a quarter horse and paint?

It is possible for a horse to be dual registered with AQHA and APHA. You'd have to check the rules and your horses' papers to see if your horse qualifies or not. I have a registered Paint and he is qualified to be registered as an Appendix QH as well.

How can I find my Quarter Horse's registration information without having his papers?

When I bought him over 10 years ago the owner claimed that he had papers and that she would find them and mail them to me, which she never did. I lost her contact information and therefore cannot get in touch with her now. It would be so nice to have his papers, but I would be content just to know his birthday and the names of his sire and dam. Is there any way to find this information, such as a database that I could search online?

More information:
I purchased him in October of 1995 and I was told that he was 17. I do not know his registration number, and I do not know his exact registered name. The woman who sold him to me told me that it was one of four possibilities: Jody's Surprise, Surprise Jody, Toby's Surprise or Surprise Toby. His mother's name was Jody (which could just be her barn name and it could be spelled differently) and he was a surprise foal. He is a bucksin (or a dun)and I bought him in New Jersey but supposedly he was born out west, possibly in Colorado.

What do people mean when they say register a horse?

There are a lot of different breed registries out there depending on the breed of your horse, such as APHA (American Paint Horse Association), AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association), ApHC (Appaloosa Horse Club) and so on. Many purebred horses are registered by their breeder at birth, and basically that means that they are given a unique "registered name" so they can be recognized by the registration (for instance, my APHA colt's registered name is Mr. High On Scotch,) and they'll send you a piece of paper that has your horses registered name, registration number, color, sex, and their family tree. These papers stay with the horse their entire life, and if the horse is bought from the current owner, the papers go with them. The papers are required if you go to any "breed shows," like taking your Quarter Horse to an AQHA show, for example.)
To register a horse, you need to know that it's pure bred (mostly, some breed associations allow traces of other bloodlines in the horses family tree.) and you'll need to the registered names of it's parents, other information like where the horse was foaled and the breeder are helpful also. Before you can send off your registration papers, you need to apply for a membership to the breed registry. You can usually do that for about $25 on the registry's website, and you can request forms to register a horse from there.

If your horse is not registered, that's okay too. So long as you're not planning on doing any HUGE shows, just local and schooling shows, playdays, etc., you won't need it's registration papers. Most people whose horses are not registered then will make up a show name, which basically takes the place of a registered name on any show documents and vet records. You can make up whatever you'd like for a show name, you could name a horse Rainbow Bubbles Explosion for all they care. Just be sure not to change it once you've used it on any sort of paperwork, because that show name is how they'll identify your horse from now on.

Hope I helped. :) This is just my understanding of it.. So I may have left a few things out, but I'm pretty sure this is the jist of it.
