Lagging while playing online games?
Hello, As you can infer from the title I'm wondering why my comp. is lagging so badly. Lately i have been experiencing some pretty bad lagg when playing games. When i'm playing single player games such as Starcraft 2 I'm not experiencing very bad lagg. I usually experience this lagg when im playing online games such as Transformice, Maplestory, WoW(private server), Crossfire etc I run Defraggler about once or twice a month to see if i have a fragmented hard-drive. I notice some improvement in speed however nothing too impressive. I also downloaded game booster and while it did slightly improve my lagg at first, its becoming useless as well. My Computuer is not particularly bad. Running Windows 7 OS with 6GB Ram, AMD Athlon Quad core proccesor, ATI Radeon graphics card and 500GB of Ram(About 300GB free), Any suggestions on how to fix this? (Preferably without a third party program)

does it tell you about pings? if it does and it is high, that's why and you need to fix it try not to install programs that slows down your internet when you run it and then use internet at the same time or it could be your graphic card some games require a decent graphic card to play the game and if your graphic card ain't decent, then you can lag or maybe it is cause of the speed of your internet if you know your download speed, then it could help my one is 2mb and if your one is less than that, then it could be the prob you can run a speed check at some website, can't remember what it is called by try going on google although there is many more reasons to why you get lag spikes but i can't think of anymore

This takes a load off the graphics chip itself (which in addition to being in the middle of the product range, also has heat dissipation limits cos it’s in a laptop.)The other, unstated but assumed problem - since you’re on a laptop, you may be running your network connection over wi-fi. This makes gaming VERY laggy, as overlap of radio signals push up the number of packet retransmits due to competing noise. As more and more homes and businesses deploy wi-fi on a limited number of channels, this will get worse. (If you’re old enough to remember the CB craze in the 70’s and early 80’s, you’ll see why - even with encryption, you still get static when everyone keys up at once). The fix is simple - run an ethernet cable between your laptop and your router, if it is accessible.
How to fix spiking wifi?
I should start off saying im not computer savvy, i dont know if i have a router or modem (im pretty sure youd call it a router, whatever your ISP gives you when you join their services.) Anyways just try and provide an easy way to fix everything if possible. Recently, as in like a day or two, while i was on skype with a friend, he suddenly got very fuzzy, and he couldnt hear me for about a minute or so, and i got disconnecfed from an online game, nothing too serious but odd since it had never really happened before. Anyway then about i guess 45 min - and hour later we were playing a match in league of legends (not the same game as before) and i got disconnected, but i did reconnect and it constantly spiked a ton about halfway through the match, unfortunately losing us the game. Anyway i checked today when i played alone and saw that my wifi tends to jump from a steady rate to way up, for about i guess a second or two, and come back down. I did restart my router and i have fios, so my router had a little button with a circle of arrows, im not sure if it restarted it or just did something else. I dont know what it is, but it just happened within a day or two, after i redownloaded LoL (which i dont think was the problem) but anyways is there anyway to fix this? It would have to definitely be wifi since both my skype and LoL lag significantly, but anyway any help you can give is very much appreciated, i realy just want this repaired quick and easy. Why is my online gaming connection so horrible?
I also have Comcast internet and my connection is wonderful.... Maybe your problem is that maybe you might of got the horrible deal.... Because Comcast allows you of choosing different type of internet basically... The 1st one is mainly for when you barely are on the internet just to maybe look up something and you have very few people using it and the 2nd is maybe when its work related and your on for a couple of hours and some people use the internet at the same time and the 3rd is when your basically on the internet a lot and you have many people using it which will make a stronger connection while the first one will be very weak and the 2nd being average.
