How can I use electric guitar pedals with a keyboard?
I had a bit of an experiment in this field using a Boss GT8 processor with my Korg X50 and Yamaha PSR 1000. I found mixed results, very dependent on the instruments being used. I'd say that the two effects that universally work irrespective of this are reverb and and delay. You could also get an EQ pedal setup if you wanted to get a really dramatic change in dynamics/sound. You can't go far wrong with wah either, particularly if you're using some heavy rock organs. It's just as good with lead synths and pads though.I'd say one of the best benefits you can get is to set up some sort of boost for solos; something I can't do easily on keys at least! For that there's plenty of options including those that simply boost the decibel level or overdrive pedals with low levels of gain but higher volume. Whilst in theory distortion and higher overdrive pedals should give some interesting tweaks for synth voices, in practice I've yet to get anything that really sounded good. The possibilities are endless though; I'd be interested to hear what you find works!
