How Can I Make My Brown Hair Lighter Without Bleaching

Can you dye hair lighter without bleach?

Alright so I dye my hair myself and have never had any problems. I want to go lighter but I really don't want to bleach my hair! Is it possible to dye hair without bleach with a store-bought hair dye? Please let me know :)

How can I dye dark brown hair light brown without bleach?

Is this dark brown natural,or dyed? If it is color treated hair You can't,really. Color will not lift color. If you don't have the patience to wait for it to fade gradually, you could try to remove a little intensity by shampooing with Dawn. This will lift the cuticle to help some color leach out. Possibly. Be sure to condition well after this. Your best bet is to see a professional colorist as this is iffy. There are mild bleaching procedures that can be performed in salon, and a new color may need to be applied to achieve your desired result.

Using light blonde hair dye on brown hair without bleaching?

If you use a very very light blonde dye on dark brown hair...it would most likely come out a light brown...but it won't go blonde without the bleaching...which I don't recommend, its very very damaging to hair.

Oh and be careful! Blond dye tends to give brunettes a decidedly red hue.

Hair Color can and WILL lighten your hair. It can contain some amounts of a hydrogen based peroxide (not the kind in the bottle! That will turn your hair green!) or bleach. But bleaching/ and lifting are two completely different things. There are hair colors out there that are specifically marketed to leave your hair in better shape than when you started, as they hydrate and gloss your strands.

Bleach on the other hand dehydrates and leaves your parched hair begging for moisture and some TLC. Lightening one or two shades isn't a terribly huge commitment as you can always go back to the original color the same way you got there. With another box of hair dye and some patience.

Lightest I can dye my hair without bleaching?

I currently have very dark brown hair, nearly black and I'd like to dye it a light brown but I'm not sure how light I can go without bleaching. I do not want to bleach it, nor do I want it blonde, just a very nice light brown. I don't want to waste money on a box dye and find out it was too light and I'd have to bleach, because that has happened before.

Also, if anyone could link me to a hair color as well with a brand you recommend, that would be nice. You don't have to though!!

How do I dye my black hair brown without bleaching?

This depends on the level of brown you are going for. If your hair color is black naturally or artificially, also makes a difference. Let's say it's natural. It is possible to lift your black hair to a medium/dark brown. Without bleach it's possible to lift your color about 3 levels. You would need to use 12% or 40 volume developer with your color. This way you stand the best chance of getting as light as possible without the help of bleach.

How do I color hair without bleaching it?

Colouring your hair without bleach is possible. Depends on your hair colour. For dark hair (Black or dark brown), colouring in lighter shades is difficult. So you can colour ur hair in particular colours like maroon red, wine, burgundy and even honey coloured but this would require a high volume of developer. I am saying this out of experience as I recently got my hair highlighted with maroon red and honey and it looks great. The developer volume used was 30%. For colours like blue, purple, green, you have to bleach the dark hair so that it is lighter and then you can add the desired colour. For lighter natural hair like light brown or even blonde or other colours, it is easier to dye your hair in different colours without bleach as the colours will mostly be darker and so, more evident in your hair.I would suggest opting for a non-bleach hair colour as it would cause less damage to the hair. The non-bleach hair colour lasts for about 3 months after which it might start changing shades a bit. But it won't go back to your natural hair colour unless you dye it black or cut off the hair. Preferably, try not to colour from the roots.. helps reduce damage.Let me know if you need any more info.I am attaching pictures of my hair colour after dyeing without bleach. I have black hair. (Indian). The first pic is the colour in sunlight. The colour seems light in the second pic but it's actually a beautiful copper-maroon-wine kinda red.Oh, and pls do get it done in the salon for the first time..

It would be possible, however you hair may not be the exact colour you want. But seeing as you dont want to change your hair too drastically, it should work okay.
Just to warn you, I wouldn't recommend doing anything with red dye at home, as I dyed my auburn around 16 months ago, and my hair still has a ginger tint to it, even after trying to bleach it out!

What color can you dye black hair without bleaching it?

Certain hair dyes can add tones to black hair. Very few people have true black hair i.e. a level 1. So, if you consider the kind of black hair that most have, yes, you can add tones of blue, purple or red to it. These tones are usually most visible in sunlight. Even otherwise, such dyes enhance the depth of black hair and give it some dimension. How can you dye your hair lighter without damaging it?

Anytime you alter your hair's natural structure there's going to be some effect to the integrity of your hair. It is possible to lighten your hair with minimal damage. However, there are a few factors to consider first. Your hair will have the least amount of damage if there is no previous color. Keep in mind if you have long hair, even if it's been a year since you last colored it, your ends have previous color. I would suggest trimming it along with lightning to avoid further damage, as the ends are the most fragile and susceptible to breakage and split ends. Your hair's natural color also determines the level of potential damage. The darker the natural, or previously colored the hair is, the stronger the lightener and level of developer you'l have to use, and the longer your hair will have to process. All of this equals more damage to your hair's condition. There are amazing products on the market today, if you're going to a professional, which I highly, highly recommend.  Ask your salon if they use olaplex, which is a protein that can be added to the lightener. It acts like a barrier to your hair and helps maintain the hair's structure and strength, so it doesn't get completely broken down in the chemical process. It is a miracle worker. I also advise going lighter gradually, with reconstructing conditioning treatments in between color appointments. You cannot permanently repair damaged hair, but there are treatments with added keratin, a natural hair protein, that will give the hair  time to re-build and strengthen, making it more resilient to  damage caused by chemical processing. To summarize the answer to your question: get regular trims, have Olaplex or a similar product added to your color service, and conditioning treatments between color appointments at the salon. Invest in a quality shampoo and conditioner and gradually lighten your hair over several salon visits, and this will allow you to go lighter with the least damage.
