How Can I Throw A Baseball The Correct Way

How to throw a baseball really far?

practice by playing javelin, shotput and frisbee throwing events. these events usually furnish theflexibility of the arms... but still it is best to take ballet lessons, as michael jordan did... they are the best ways to keep flexibility and power combined.

I never learned to correctly throw a baseball. is there a site to help me learn?

As a coach I teach my kids to:
1. grip the ball across all four laces.
2. Plant your throwing foot, step towards your target with your glove hand.
3. Reach back with your throwing hand(stretching your arm all the way out) Keep your throwing elbow up
4. Pull your body through with your glove hand, throwing the ball with your arm in an overhand motion(try not to drop down sidearm)
5. Follow through, snapping your wrist at the end to give the ball a bit of backspin so that it will stay in the air a bit longer.

Release point will have to be adjusted according to who you are playing with(their height)

Practice, practice, practice and have fun!...use a tennis ball(or a spongey baseball) and a brick wall.

Good Luck!!

How often should I throw a baseball?

It depends where you are in your throwing. For example pro pitchers that have taken the whole off season off from throwing (about 4–6 months) will only throw 2–3 times a week when they start to throw again before their next season. When a pitcher is in full season and his arm is at his strongest, they will often throw 5–6 times a week. Also what matters is quality of throwing. Many pitchers (including myself) will often take it easy on their throwing arm 2–3 times a week. This means that they will not throw as hard as they can but rather just play light catch to stay in a groove. If a pitcher or thrower has taken more than a month off from throwing completely then it is recommended they start back slowly gaining their arm strength. There is a fine line to walk between throwing too little and throwing too much. We write pitchers out throwing programs all the time in order to advise them on how much or how little they should be throwing. Also a pitcher should know his own body. If he is the type of guy who can throw 5–6 days a week and be completely healthy then he should do that because it is likely that he needs to throw that much in order for his arm to feel good. other pitchers may only want to throw 3–4 times a week.

What is the best way to throw faster in baseball?

When someone is born, the Baseball Gods make sure that this particular little baby is destined to be a “baseball pitcher” where many of these Pitching Gods are actually relatively small in stature.Pedro Martinez and Mariano Rivera are two pitchers who SHOULD NOT be able to pitch like they do but they are true “freaks” due to their relatively smaller frame. Tim Lincecum was nicknamed “The Freak” because his very small stature could throw such “exploding type” pitches that he won two Cy Young. Of course, Martinez and Rivera won their respective number of pitching awards.Less knowledgeable fans are enamored with specifically velocity but EVERY MLB HITTER can hit a STRAIGHT 100 MPH pitch! However, if you add the other two more components of ball movement and placement will be the difference between average and great. One of the finest proponents where MLB pitchers could be extremely with moderate paced “stuff” were Greg Maddux and Orel Hershiser where neither one’s fastball could go faster than 88 mph. Hershiser had a Wikipedia quote of:He also emphasized locating his pitches in good spots: "You'll hear pitchers say, 'I had great stuff and got shelled,' but you never hear them say, 'I had great location and got shelled.”I rest my case…

How do you improve your sidearm throw for baseball?

It’s not exactly recommended because it doesn;t allow your shoulder to pronate properly, putting extra stress on the elbow and the tarry’s major and minor tendons. But if you can’t throw overhand, (and many people can’t do this) then follow these steps…Rotate your hips and make sure you do not over-stride. (Watch video’s of Walter Johnson pitching. He had a wonderfully easy stride to the plate.)You will want to land with your front foot just barely in front of your shoulder. So if you are right handed, your left landing foot should hit the dirt about a foot in front of your left shoulder. Any more than that, and the ball will sail on you. And there is nothing easier than a side-arm pitch at the belt for a hitter to hit.Your bellybutton should point directly at the hitter when your arm hits a 90-degree angle from your body. As you follow through, make sure your back shoulder is facing the hitter.Hope that helps!

How do you throw a curveball with a baseball?

Ok...To throw a curve ball you need to create a lot of top-spin on the throw...Mechanically there are a lot of things that need to happen for this to work (most of which will cause your arm to ache the next day if you are not used to it)...Here is what I teach my high-school kids that are learning a curve for the first time.

Find a Pringle's potato chip can (one of the long ones, empty). Place the lid on it and put about two layers of masking/athletic tape around and over the lid (to make that end heavier).

Next..get a throwing partner and stand about 30-45 feet apart. Grab the can at the opposite end from the tape with your throwing hand. Hold it with your first two fingers and your thumb (very similar to how you would hold a baseball).

Now, take the can and throw it to your partner so it flips end-over-end....Try to use your normal "arm-slot" (overhand or 3/4 overhand)...The goal is to have the can flip as many times as possible before it gets to your partner.

After doing this for a while you can then transfer that "flipping feeling" to throwing a baseball....Grip it the same way and achieve the same feeling when you throw a ball...It may not be a true curve yet, but you will have a good understanding of what it takes to throw the pitch.

Hope this helps

I am 27. How can I learn how to throw a baseball or a football?

Age is not an issue. You can be 5 or 80 and still learn.Repetition is key here.  If you fear you will look awkward, I recommend you look at a few videos of professionals throwing a baseball and/or football and mimic just the motion (with no ball in hand & do not worry about velocity). When you feel comfortable with the motion, grab a ball and go outside. It will be uncomfortable, you will look awkward, but the only way to learn is by doing. You can start by throwing the ball at a wall or fence. Focus on the throwing motion, not speed. Then move onto focusing on accuracy (choose a spot on the wall & aim there). Then focus on velocity.Like most other things, you learn by seeing then doing. All the best.

How difficult is it to throw a baseball 90mph or faster?

Pitching a ball is an extremely unnatural and dynamic movement. The athlete must have great proprioreceotion, knowing when and where his body is at all times. Velocity comes from multiple areas, the biggest is stride, and hip/shoulder separation. A hard throwing pitcher needs to stride around 85 percent of his body length, while striding forward he needs to allow his lower half or hips to open first while his shoulders stay in a closed position. As these two body parts stretch apart, we create a stretch in myofascial tissue in the front side obliques, as they snap back together(when the front foot hits the ground) it whips the arm through. Hopefully the pitcher has good center positioning on his vertical axis and gets out in front with square shoulders to his target at his finish, other wise energy is wasted off to the sides of the body and velocity is lost. Pitchers who understand this principle and have the arm health and work ethic to get there will have a better chance at achieving a high speed. In order to throw a 90mph pitch, arm speed needs to be around 120mph, holding a 5.6oz ball. As a former college pitcher and instructor, and head coach, I could literally go on for days about the mechanics and machine like consistency it takes to program the human body to throw a 90mph fastball inside a 10" box 80 times in a row. I was only 5'11" in college and threw 91-92mph. All based on understanding how to use my body the perfect way every time. Any questions or if want me go deeper please let me know. I haven't even scratched the surface.
