How Can You Tell If You Fractured A Bone In Your Hand

What are the chances that I broke or fractured a bone?

I was playing golf ( 1st time) and I think I injured my hand. I have a high treshold for pain so I can't tell if I fractured or have some soft tissue damage. The pain is coming from the trapezoid, trapezium, and scaphoid (area) bones in my hand.

There is no swelling or redness so I'm waiting till next week to see the Dr.

Thanks,
Andre'a

How long does it take for a sprained hand to heal?

First, just to clarify for other readers: a sprain refers to the joint, bone or ligament. This is different from a strain, which refers to muscles and tendons. There are 3 levels (grades) of sprains. Grade 1 sprain: minor sprain; 1-4 weeks to heal. Grade 2 sprain: medium to significant sprain. Swelling, bruising and pain included. Micro-fracture included as well ; 4-8 weeks to heal. Grade 3 sprain: Usually a gales tired or broken bone or torn ligament. Associated with severe swelling and bleeding and inability to move limb; 8-12 weeks or more depending on severity.Tip: To accelerate the healing process: -protect the injured area-rest the injured area -alternate ice and heat treatment -wrap or compress it while active but keep it moving periodically to avoid stiffness of possible-elevate the area if possible to reduce swelling

How to tell if you've broken your hand?

I think I just broke my hand...or something. I can move it in all directions but I have this dull pain in the back of my hand. It feels much like the pain I got when I broke my hand on a previous occasion. Whats the best way to tell if its really broken?

I hurt it by falling down and landing on my fist...ahem yes...

If you break your hand twice...do you need surgery?

i broke my hand in the late fall of '05...it was a called
a "boxers fracture" or something like that... i don't know
i totally separated my 5th metacarpol in my hand...since then my hand hasn't really been the same. last year i had three multiple contusions on my wrist [it's all because since my accident my hand hasn't been able to bare so much pressure otherwise my pinky and ring finger sticks]
but this time, i think i did the worst thing....so...my body likes to trick me and i trip over the smallest thigns. i'm not lying. i just tripped over a usb cable connecting from my computer to the printer. and i landed on my knuckles...i can't exactly tell if it's broken, i probably just bruised it a little again [always do that] but i cant tell because i never had surgery on it to make the bone heal straight and not curved...but my point is.
if you break it in the same spot twice, do they make you undergo surgery? i'm not aksing for it, i just want to know cause im sick of hurting it.
