How Come My Laptop Is Messing Up My Tv

How Can I Hook My Laptop Up to 1990s era TV?

I have a late 1990s era big screen tv that is still in great condition (perfect picture). I would like to hook my laptop up to it in order to watch Netflix and Hulu while avoiding buying any of the "make your tv a smart tv" devices, if possible. There are smart tvs in the house, but I spend most of my tv watching time in a man cave of sorts, which is where the big screen is located. Currently there is a dvr box and a dvd player hooked up to the television. Any help would be appreciated.

When connecting my laptop to the TV with the HDMI cable, why can't the desktop's edges be seen?

To get your computer displaying correctly on your TV find out its native resolution. For most current TV's as of this writing it will probably be at least 1920x1080.Connect the HDMI cable. Once connected set the output resolution on your computer to the TV's native resolution, or if that's not an option use a resolution that's the same aspect ratio. (For example both 1920x1080 and 1280x720 are a 16:9 ratio) It may set the correct resolution automatically. If the TV is still not displaying the entire image correctly try cycling through the inputs by repeatedly pressing the "source" or "input" button. If that doesn't work look on your TV remote for a "sync" or "auto sync" button. If there isn't a button you may need to look through the on screen menus. Once you get to those menus an auto sync option would be easiest but there may be manual controls like overscan and clock. Play with those and you should see if you're making progress. If it starts looking too weird you can reset everything.Lastly when you're editing the computer settings it's possible to have the output clone/mirror what's showing on the primary screen. Or it can be extended so something different is showing on each of the screens. If you have trouble setting the resolution you need, try changing the output from extended to mirrored, or vice versa.

Why wont my TV hook up to my laptop via HDMI?

Okay, check your screen resolution settings on your laptop.

(Windows 7)
Control Panel > Hardware And Sound > Display > Adjust Resolution

Make sure the settings correspond to that of the TV. For instance, you need to have your laptop outputting a picture size that your TV can support. Also, make sure it's outputting the right quality. If your TV only supports 1080i, then 1080p picture may not work.

If you are a more advanced user, go into the GPU's specific software (such as Catalyst Control Center). You can adjust all the settings from there, and you can also check it is using the correct refresh rate. If your TV supports it, the GPU might even be able to auto recognize the settings if you enable it.

Hope this helps.

Connecting TV to laptop with HDMI cable-Signal gets disrupted?

I have been connecting my TV and laptop with an HDMI cable for a while now. However, recently I've been having a problem. After watching something for a while..probably around 30-40 minutes the signal gets lost. This causes my TV to say no signal and the TV program sound starts playing from my laptop. However, moving the mouse instantly restores the signal and the sound moves back to my TV.

I know this sounds like an idleness issue but I do move my mouse occasionally and this has never happened before until recently. I am thinking I might have accidentally changed some settings on my laptop but I'm not sure what they could be. I looked at my power plan and the laptop is programmed to turn off the screen in 15 minutes of idleness and to go to sleep after 20 minutes of idleness. But this isn't enough time, it seems to happen within 30-45 minutes even if move the mouse...

Any ideas?

Can I play a high graphic game on my TV connected through laptop with an HDMI cable?

TVs are just monitors with extra processing, they can work well as a display but some gamers are concerned that the added processing adds significant lag which makes gaming less competitive.

How do I connect my laptop to my xfinity box with my HDMI cord?

I noticed my xfinity box had an HDMI cord on the back (the television itself does not have one). So I hooked it up and messed around with the inputs and no luck, since it was directly connected to the cable box I thought the screen would just change instantly to my pc screen, but no. How does this all work, my tv is kinda dated, its a Magnavox if that helps, don't know what year, I'd say early 2000's. The xfinity box is a smaller one too, not the larger one that who use to record everything on. Anyway, I only have a regular HDMI cord, how can I do this?
