How Common Is A Sore Throat For Three Days After Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction.....sore throat, swollen glands and earache, are they connected?

About a month ago now i had a molar tooth removed at the dentist, but he couldn't get it all out and had to leave the root in.

Since then i've had tooth ache when eating or drinking hot, cold and sweet things and my gum is swollen at the side of the wound. A couple of nights ago i started with a sore throat, swollen glands and earache.

I can't sleep or eat because of the pain
.
I'm taking more than the recommended amount of pain killers a day (paracetamol and ibuprofen) im also taking linctus and have been sucking on lozenges.

I don't know what else to do, im in pain and very tired. I plan on ringing the doctor first thing in the morning.

Please give me some advice.....Thank you.

RE:
Sore throat after tooth extraction?
I had a tooth removed yesterday from my upper jaw (L5 to be precise). It's just a normal tooth not a wisdom one or anything and i've had a sore throat ever since but when i woke up today it was worse than yesterday. It hurts to even yawn or swallow my saliva, is this common after a tooth...

Flu a few days after tooth extraction?

I had a #5 tooth extracted on wednesday after at approx 2:00 pm. The bleeding mostly stopped after the first day. On the second night after, I started to get a sore throat. Today I woke up with it feeling very raw. started to coughing around dinner time with a tight chest. I've been feeling like I had a fever all day and sore muscles on-setting as well, and headache. Typical flu symptoms. I looked online and scared myself with sepsis stories. I am scared to death of it. Frankly the only thing stopping me right now from going to the ER is.... the extraction area, or anywhere on my body for that matter, is not in pain besides my flu muscle aches and partial headache. Also I don't feel any nausea. I also read death reports of sepsis from dental causes and nothing really fits my story. And most cases if not all only affected the people directly after. So I'm still a bit scared but I'd like some opinions on the matter.

Is it normal for throat to hurt after Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Go back to the dentist/surgeon that took them out. You may have an infection somewhere in there. Or maybe you've got dry sockets. That's where the blood clot comes out of the extraction site and it's air-on-bone. Very painful! Usually the dry sockets will happen within 72 hours though...but call them -they should do a post-op visit at no charge.

How can you treat throat pain after wisdom teeth extraction?

Throat pain with one or more open sockets? Don’t want re-infection or a dry socket which can be quite painful?Speedy healing without complications you seek?Don’t smoke. Use a metal tongue sweeper and non-alcohol-based mouthwash 3 times a day. Supplement this with warm salt water rinses 3 to 5 times a day also.Brush and floss after BOTH breakfast and dinner for 4 to 5 minutes. Let your body heal itself. Stay the course for 10 to 14 days. After 14 days, if your throat pain still persists, see your dentist to see if he or she thinks a referral to the ENT specialist is prudent or warranted if not at least re-assuring and beneficial. If you’re diabetic or taking a blood-thinning medication, expect that an extra week or two of slow and steady healing will be your regular norm. Good luck.

What causes throat pain after wisdom teeth extraction?

Wisdom tooth apparently has strong links at the root levels to our nervous system…a slight bit more than usual teeth, hence they are called Wisdom tooth in essence (i suppose). So upon their “forced” extraction, the nerves easily get damaged temporarily hence causing excruciating pain! Ofcourse i’m no dentist but i believe thats the Science behind it! Could be wrong but doubt i am if the above is stated in layman’s terms!Whether or not throat pain has any link to this, am not too sure i think. But i’d say it could be brought about by the additional activity enforced on the salivary glands as a result of the nervous abrasion due to wisdom tooth extraction.Ofcourse that said, i or anyone could google it too…Google has all the answers ;) these days.

Can you go to work after a wisdom tooth extraction?

The answer to this is determined by the type of anaesthesia chosen, your overall nutritional status, and how well you follow instructions for healing. In general, you want to take it easy for about a week. Most people can return to work in a day or two, but avoid strenuous activitiesbut please noteExpect pain after the anaesthetic wears off – a painkiller will be prescribed.Antibiotics will also be prescribed.Avoid vigorous rinsing of your mouth until the next day. One the second day, rinse your mouth out five or six times a day with a cup of warm water and a teaspoon of salt in it.You may experience the following symptoms afterward: fever, dizziness, stiffness of your jaw muscles, and a sore throat with pain when you swallow.Brush your teeth, but gently around the site.Eat regular meals (soft foods), but chew with your teeth on the other side. Drink plenty of fluids, but avoid hot drinks.Avoid smoking and strenuous exercise.

Is it normal to have sore teeth after an extraction?

It's pretty normal. Actually whenever you have work on your teeth, its normal that the teeth around the tooth that was worked on to also hurt or be sore. Sometimes a whole side of a mouth can hurt because of dental work. Shouldn't last for more than a day though. If it lasts longer than 3 days, I would call your dentist.

What is the best way to treat a tooth infection and a sore throat?

These are two different medical conditions.A sore throat is usually caused by a viral infection although something like 5% of them can be caused by a bacterial infection such as strep. The absolute best early treatment for a sore throat is Zinc lozenges.  The moment you notice a sore throat, start sucking on zinc lozenges every 4 hours for the day.  The metal ion binds with viral particles and bacteria and inactivates them.  If you catch it early enough, you can short circuit the infection from spreading into the body and triggering an immune response like a cold or flu.  the key here is catching it early enough. If the sore throat intensifies or a fever develop, consider getting a strep test. Antibiotics ONLY work against bacteria and not viruses so taking them prophylactically probably isn’t a good idea. Just remember that antibiotics are poison—they are just more lethal to bacteria than they are to you so save their use for when they are really needed to avoid allowing antibiotic resistance to develop.A tooth infection ( a true infection) is usually due to a bacterial infection and should be dealt with a course of antibiotics.  I have a patient I referred to a dentist where she got a tooth infection that has spread into her jaw bone. She now requires extraction of 4 of her teeth to dig out the infection as it got entrenched.
