How Did You Apply For Help Desk Jobs Before You Found One

Can I apply for a job a week before 16th birthday?

I would do it now. Even if they interview you fast, by the time everything is done, it will be your 16th birthday already. It will show that you are eager and that you are hardworking. :)

I moved to Los Angeles and can't find a job?

i'm 23 and moved to los angeles (north hollywood) two months ago because I have always wanted to live here and make it out here. I moved from Omaha. I graduated college with a degree in marketing last spring and quit my job back home because it was a boring desk job and couldnt find another one. I've lived with my parents my whole life. Anyhow I decided to move out here(los angeles) two months ago and signed a 6 month lease in hopes of finding a job and making it out here. The only problem is I can't seem to find any jobs that pay very well. My rent is 1000 a month and I am going through my savings like crazy out here. I've had a saving account all my life and now its dwindling. Now I just stay at my apt and watch movies all day and send out my resumes online. I've tried going door to door businesses but all I can find are jobs that pay minimun wage or jobs waiting tables. I also figured I would go out more, I have a couple of friends that live here, but things are so expensive and they have money and I dont. I also left behind a guy I was dating back home who was amazing, the first guy I ever loved, he was so good to me and we had amazing chemistry, and he didn't want me to leave but I figured since I was young and have no kids I should just go for my dreams. We were talking on the phone every night but now we rarely talk at all even though we are on good terms he said I coule call him if i needed anything but I'm afraid he may meet someone else and I am stuck here with no job and no income. What should I do?

How does one apply for permanent disability or benefits?

get the book "social security disability" from nolo press, at nolo.com, or see if you can get it at your library (maybe even thru an interlibrary loan?) It will give you a lot of background on how to apply, what criteria are used, and how to fill out the forms.

You have to be profoundly disabled to get disability, and if you are relatively young and educated, it will be harder. But if you really can't hold down a job, and you can document that, you should get it eventually. You will almost certainly be rejected the first time, and the process takes awhile, so somehow you have to manage your finances in the meantime.

Keep in mind that once you go on disability, you will never get off of it, no one does. You will be in poverty the rest of your life unless you marry out of it or a miracle cures you. The ways the rules are make you dependent on the system, so keep that in mind when you are deciding if you want to do this. A lot of people have no choice, because they can't work at all, or they can't keep a job with insurance to get their pills. but it's still humiliating in America to have no job-people always ask when you are being introduced,"oh hello, what do YOU do for a living?" which ends up being a very nosy question without meaning to. If you can get supportive help from social services (in my state, they will pay for support groups and a social worker to visit and help with paperwork) or tweak your meds some more, or from a local consumer group (google the words consumer, mental, and your state. Consumer=person getting mental health services) then maybe you won't have to go on disability.

I'm on SSA myself, and need the medicare, so I'm not being judgmental, I just want you to know what you're getting into. Get the book I recommended, it will give you all the legal and inside information to see if you qualify.

all the best to you! I hope you feel better soon!

Would you quit your job without another one lined up?

Fortunately, I haven't quit one without something else lined up since I was in high school. But I have had jobs where I was completely miserable at for a couple of years before I finally started looking and found something else. I had a couple of jobs where I was physically sick and throwing up from stress. But I held out until I found something else.

What I learned is when you first start to dislike your job, start looking right away. You don't have to wait until your breaking point to start applying and sending out resumes. If you find something else, but you decide to stick it out at your current job you can just respectfully decline an offer. But at least then you have options.

Yeah, your in a tough spot. It's not a problem as a teenager who is still in school. I was able to use, "I wanted to focus on my schoolwork" as a reason. But that won't work for you. It's hard to give a reason why you left without sounding negative.

How hard is it to get a job at a hotel?

You should try for front desk first!! Housekeeping is a hard job and in most cases they get paid the worst!!! I have worked at a Holiday Inn, a Marriott, and now I work for a Hilton hotel. You will rarely get the recognition you'd deserve to go up a higher level if you work for housekeeping. Also, front desk does pay more and the job is a lot easier!!
