How do city buses/bus routes work? (I have no car, so...)?

It varies depending on where you are. Here in Los Angeles we have the Los Angeles metro (a network of trains and busses) that operates throughout most of the county. Most of the smaller bus networks are $1.25 each way. You really shouldn't be paying more than 2 bucks for a one-way fare. The busses here only take exact change so be sure to have a couple quarters with you. If you plan on taking public transit the entire day you should get a day pass, which here is 5 bucks. This will get you on any LA Metro route. Buss or train. The card for the day pass is re-loadable too. So next time you want to take public transit you can add money to the card for a reduced fee. Google maps is a great help with public transit. You enter your beginning and end point and it gives you the time it will take and the amount of money you will need. Most busses have route maps on-board. Make sure to plan ahead though incase they are out. Be confident too. Trust yourself. Know that all you need to do if you get on the wrong bus is get off and find one going in the opposite direction. Good Luck!

What are buses? How do buses work?

How do budes work? Have you taken one? Ask the bus driver, dummy….next question!!!

How do the buses work?

Maybe.Bus drivers usually can’t take a break in the middle of their route - they take their break at the end. So when your bus gets to the end of its route, the driver could park and go take their break for 10–15 minutes. They can’t leave the bus running (so no heat or air conditioning), and they can’t leave anyone on the bus unattended - so you would have to stand outside the bus, or sit at the bus stop until the driver came back. There’s a chance that the bus could go out of service, and head back to the garage for service/fuel.If the bus goes to a large terminal with multiple routes, it could get re-assigned to a different route, and go somewhere else next.In some cases, if you get off the bus at the end of the line, you’ll have to pay your fare again to get on the next bus going the direction you want to go.It could also take a lot of time to ride the bus all the way to the end of the route, and then all the way back the other direction to where you want to go.The worst thing that could happen is that you end up at the bus stop, and the next bus doesn’t show up - so now instead of being stuck closer to home, you’re stuck even farther away from where you’re trying to go.So. . . your idea might work - there’s no concrete reason or rule that I can think of that says that it won’t. It will just take a lot of extra time to get where you’re trying to go.I’ll admit that occasionally I’ve done this while riding rapid transit when I’m close to the end of the line - I’ll go the one or two stops the “wrong” direction to the end of the line, so I can get on the empty train when it pulls in to the station going the direction I want to go. I’m more likely to get a seat, so I don’t have to stand on my commute home. (I do have a monthly pass though - so it doesn’t cost me anything but a little time to be lazy.)

How big are city bus engines?

I'm in college, and our campus is so big that it has its own bus system. Anyway, I was talking to the driver one day, and he said the buses have Cummins engines. But that's all he knew. How big do you think they are? I know they're 6 cylinders, but displacement? Here's a pic of one of the buses:

How do i ride the city bus?

ok i live in seattle im not sure if it is diff prices in diff places but i'll tell u anyways
you wait at the apropriate stop where ur bus # stops at
then u wait 4 ppl to get off the bus, than get on, and u see under tha cashier place if u pay when u get on or when u get off [usually on]
if u pay when u get on, pay 50 cents, with a bus token [pink little slip] or a bus card [prepaid like $20 unlimited usage] if u use something other than a bus card [looks like a credit card u slide on the cashier] the driver gives you a slip that has numbers on it. it symolizes how long u have to use it again so u dont need to pay everytime u get on another bus [if u need 2 take more than 1 bus to get where ur going]. and then u sit down in a free seat and then wait until the bus goes where u need to get off. if it is a pay-as-u-leave bus, than pay when u get off. if u need to use another bus, do the same thing except show the bus driver your transfer [slip with the number/hours on it] instead of paying.

its not that difficult, u'll get use to it. and if ur freaked out about ur first time get someone to go with u so u dont feel lost. =] i use the bus all the time and its a great way to get places if u dont have a car.

How do bus shuttles work?

Shuttle buses are any type of bus service intended primarily to shuttle passengers between two fixed points. These can be bus or coach operated, but are usually short or medium distance journeys taking less than an hour. Shuttle buses will usually link with other transport hubs, such as airport shuttle buses. A common use of a shuttle bus is in towns, cities or airports. Examples include the bus service that links Heathrow’ Airport with Reading Rail Station, for passenger interconnections. "Shuttle" as a brand name is applied variously across several types of service. Note there are also shuttle train, tram and ferry services in operation, such as the shuttle ferry link between New York’s Staten Island with Manhattan.

Why do city buses not have fender skirts?

Because it wouldn't even benefit 1%.City buses have an average speed of between 15–20km\h, depending on how crowded the city/traffic is.At those speeds even a relatively mild breeze would negate the aerodynamic benefits of fender skirts, or for that matter, even a superbly streamlined body. One of your tyres is slightly underpressurised? Boom, %4 efficiency gone. Driver happened to have a heavy lunch? 0.3% efficiency gone. Not only do they make absolutely no difference and are unnecessary, they also hamper maintenance.Honestly? These are spectacularly trivial calculations. It's not even worth the mental effort. Make sure all tyres are pressurised properly and you'll gain 15% efficiency. Open the windows instead of the A/C, another 20%. There are literally hundreds of better areas to improve before we come to marginal aerodynamic gains.

At what time do city buses start in Hyderabad?

Hari om, you are asking a question as to: “At what time do city buses start in Hyderabad?”. Hari om.City buses start early in the mornings in a very few selected routes in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. They are generally catered to go to the Railway stations to take passengers intending to catch the early morning trains. This can be from early hours like 0330 to 0400 hrs. But, these are only skeletal services. As the time advances, from 0500 -0530 more buses are added. The number of buses are increased as the time advances to 0600 -0700. Maximum buses ply to take school children and office goers. So, the peak hours are from 0800 - 1000 hrs.The TSRTC buses being run in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are not efficient in meeting the requirements of the commuters.Hence, in its place sharing autoes have come, who take the commuters at the same fare as the TSRTC bus fare. However, they are restricted to only the outskirts of the city.Within the city, you can have only TSRTC bus service. On busy routes the frequency of TSRTC buses is quite good. But, on other routes, you have to wait for some time varying from 15 mts to 1 hour.At the Railway stations like Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kachiguda strangers should board an auto assisted only by the traffic police. Otherwise, you will be taken for a ride and you will be cheated and charged exorbitantly. Beware of this hazard. Hari om.
