How Do I Explain My Eating Disorder To My Landlord/friend

Why can Bi-polar disorder make your emotions messy?

When something goes wrong emotion is aroused in us — as it is in all creatures. When we feel trapped, when we can’t get out of a situation or get rid of certain moods and feelings, the emotion is much stronger. Fear, panic, despair, anger, guilt, many shades of emotion flare up in us and we don’t know what to do.It’s little wonder that feeling trapped with anxiety, depression or out of control mania makes us more confused and the emotions feel ‘messy’.The psychiatric and pharmaceutical industries have said that there is something wrong with chemicals in our brain and they can be corrected with by taking drugs. We now know this is not true but it has left us as we were before: not knowing that causes depression or bipolar. We often feel stuck when in the pit of depression or when out of control with hypomania. There is a safe and effective way of dealing with bipolar disorder without taking drugs or having therapy. It is to develop an inner strength that enables you to bear the force of emotion when it flares up or smoulders away inside you. It is called Adaptation Practice. You can read about it and if you want to know what it is you can get a taste of it free.

My 22-year-old daughter is only eating mashed potatoes and she eats them for every meal. Other than packing on the pounds, what else is this going to do to her and her health?

A good friend of mine did something similar some years ago when she was living in poverty with no health insurance, a binge eating disorder, and an undiagnosed digestive disorder. She had difficulty digesting many foods courtesy of that digestive problem, and couldn’t afford much, so turned to cheap carbohydrates like mashed potatoes and ramen to meet her emotional and dietary needs. In the long term, this diet didn’t have too many ill effects on her physically; short term her sodium levels were high, her blood sugar was a little off, and she gained some weight. As Jen Geller has suggested, it’s probably best to examine why your daughter is eating the way she is. If it’s about the money, then she obviously needs help obtaining groceries -either through the support of family, or the support of the government or charitable organizations. If it’s medical - either a digestive problem, eating/psychiatric disorder, or suspected food allergy - then she needs to be seen by a doctor. And lastly, if it’s simply personal preference that’s not borne out of a financial or medical issue, then I pity your daughter. For a grown person to willingly subsist on a single dish because they don’t like anything else belies a certain immaturity, and perhaps bigger psycho-social issues that should be addressed. Mashed potatoes are a great side dish, but don’t make a great meal, especially 3 times a day, and she’s otherwise missing out on a world of amazing, complex food.

I need help with an autistic neighbor living upstairs and he is a noisy kid, What should I do?

These neighbors lived upstairs on top of us and they have a kid who is a 6 year old autistic. When you look outside their apartment windows, there are pieces of cardboard on the big windows and handle bars that look like a jail cell. Usually when he comes back from school, he runs around the apartment almost the whole entire day from 3 pm to 8 pm or 9 pm. He does make noise at night sometimes from what my brother told me at 10 pm. At first when I got tired of the noise, I got a stick and hit the top ceiling so that it could stop. Instead, every time I did it he would hit back. A couple days later, his mom and a specialist for autistic kids came down the stairs and told us that if he is making noise that we should tell them. The specialist also said that the hitting on the ceiling is making the kid think that I am playing with him which is total bull. I did came upstairs to make that kid quiet so that I can do my homework, but when I was at his door, he had a fit and I swear he was at the door behind me getting angry. I knocked but no answer. This kid not only runs a lot but he is loud and can't seem to stop running. He also makes this growling sound and I've never heard him say a word before. My dad already told the landlord, but nothing has changed. I think the landlord didn't do much because when you complain about a neighbor, she gets mad. I would report it, but I don't own the house. I also have a depression disorder. What can I do?

Why do some people leave without saying goodbye?

get over it... my mom doesn't even say goodbye at the end of a phone call... TO ME.... That is the way she was raised... she is VERY sweet and has no clue that people think she is strange for it !! I tell her, but she hasn't changed any ;)

also, if your conversation was very casual, then a good bye is not always appropriate from strangers... it is a friends thing and maybe the conversation did not give him the impression that you were 'friends'...
