How do I get a job in National Geographic Channel?

Firstly, if you are a wildlife lover, only then opt for this field of business. Otherwise, you might end up regretting your job role. To send a job proposal online is difficult at National Geographic. You could rather find one of the Fox offices in your city and approach thier recruitment team directly. Also note that carrying a report on how much you have explored the wildlife and how much you have travelled is as important as your academic and professional resume. I hope this information will be handy. All the best.

Can I become a National Geographic cameramen with zero background in videography? If so, how?

Well, you need background to start, whether it means picking up a camera and learning by screwing around with It, or going to a top of the line film school. I do photography professionally, and I am completely self taught. I didn't pay $45k to get get a degree, and in most cases people think my work is better than most student photographers work, probably because instead of sitting in a classroom for years, I was out in the field learning from my mistakes first hand. Same goes with film, if you have good work, they don't care in most cases. You could go in your backyard with a Dslr and film a bird, and sell it as stock footage to them, or you could get a degree (which will help with your portfolio and resume, so I recommend that if you want to be part of a crew getting paid directly by natgeo) and you can go to them and say "I want to work for you, and you will want me to work for you." if you have good work, they will want you. How you get to that level is up to you.

What is it like to be a National Geographic Photographer? Salary?

Nat Geo does not hire staf photographers. Their photographers are all freelancers and are paid per assignment.

For assignments, Nat Geo has a day rate of about $500 per day plus expenses. They also pay separately for each image they publish. A small image inside the magazine might fetch $250 while a cover shot will fetch several thousand.

Nat Geo usually only has 3-4 assignments per issue. The rest of the images in the magazine are filled with stock images. That means that there are only 36-48 assignments per year and there are tens of thousands of photographers looking for those assignments.
