What is it like to go to Oxford University with no money behind you?

I went to Oxford University having attended a comprehensive school; my father was a teacher and my mother in low-paid employment. They supported me as best they could, but I was mainly financed by holiday work, student loans and other debt.My school encouraged me to look around a few colleges and choose the one which felt ‘right’. I chose Pembroke College - the student body came from a diverse range of backgrounds. There were plenty of people like me, and many worse off.Eight-week terms create opportunities to earn in the holidays, but the intensity of these short terms means it’s not feasible to combine part-time work and study. There is a whole lot you can enjoy outside study which doesn’t require money. Extra-curricular opportunities are extensive and free, and because they are largely college-based, they can form a large part of your social life. Like any other university, if you’re being careful with your spending then you may think twice before going out for beers or a curry, but these things are no more expensive than at other universities. In short, I don’t think the social mix at Oxford is too different to a lot of other universities in the U.K. - especially if you choose the right college. The misperception that Oxford will only serve you well if you have money is the biggest reason why so many talented people still choose not to apply.

How do I go to university without money?

Here is a way, and it is a win-win for those who otherwise could never afford higher education. You find work with a big company like Walt Disney, Discover Financial Services, or Taco Bel. You don’t need a university degree to start work with them, but they have found that graduates are more efficient, more likely to progress, hence more likely to stay—so they are paying for their workers to do higher study. In May 2018, Discover launched a program to pay the fees of its call-centre and field staff at the University of Florida, Brandman University, and Wilmington University. Staff choose one of 7 online degrees: in business, cyber-security, computer engineering, or organizational management. More than 700 employees had signed up by December 2018.Companies can afford to do this, when they deal with Brandman University especially. Brandman offers bachelor’s and graduate degrees across California and Washington. Brandman pays a fee to Guild Education—a Denver start-up that brokers deals between companies and colleges—and Guild then negotiates a total price. It can achieve reductions from $33,000 per year to $6,000-$10,000 (including technical support and academic advisors designated for company employees) because it is handling large numbers of students at a time.Big companies have a lot of money; they can afford to see the bigger picture. and the bigger picture is happy, wealthy, educated employees. What if an employee, though, from Discover, moves on to another job after graduation? Jon Kaplan, Discover’s Vice-President of Training and Development, is sanguine:“If this program helps some employees graduate college and go on to have a bright future career elsewhere, God bless them. That is an awesome downside to have!”And nope, I have no connexion with any of these companies or institutions—I am in favour of education for everyone, not just for the well-off.

No money for college?!! :(?

I have no money at all for college. My parents never had a college fund for me. I am a senior and I know soon I will have to apply for college. I am going to go to a community college since it is a fraction of what i'd have to pay at a regular college. I will need money for an apartment though. Will a student loan give me extra money so I can pay off my rent ? I'm stressing out and I don't want to lose hope and not go to college because of lack of money. My parents have terrible credit and I have NO credit at all. I am 18. What is the best thing to do?

I want to study abroad, but I do not have enough money. What can I do?

You can apply for a scholarship …I'm from india and I didn't have any money with me when decided to study abroad . After a long search for some scholarships I found so many chances all over the world . I didn't have money and time to prepare for IELTS or any other English proficiency exams. So I couldn't apply for a number of scholarships . But I found Turkey govt. Scholarship (Home - Türkiye Bursları )doesn't need that kind of exams and it's application system is very easy . So I applied for this scholarship . After one month they sent me a message that my application was successful and they invited me for an interview in Delhi. I went there alone after borrowing some money from friends (it's like 2000km away from my home). The interview was very easy for me . After one and half month that beautiful news came to my email .. I was just jumping and dancing when I see that… then I got visa and flight ticket for free ..and ..yup ..now I'm in Turkey… I'm getting a scholarship of 250$ every month besides the food ,accommodation and health insurance. I want to study in the USA, but I don't have enough money to cover all the tuition fees. Which community colleges can I transfer from to get into top universities?

For Harvard specifically, if you are good enough to get into a top tier university like Harvard, you probably do not need to start out at community college as I'm pretty sure you would qualify for a need-based full scholarship for most of these schools.I know this is true for Harvard - If you are accepted into Harvard and you come from more humble economic situation... Harvard will most likely give you a need-based scholarship. For someone living in the United States the threshold is $65,000USD. That is to say if your family earns less than that Harvard will always cover the cost of tuition, lodging and food for you and your parents pay nothing ($0). You, the student, will be expected to pick up a part-time job to cover for incident expenses... a lot of students join work at Dorm Crew.Net Price CalculatorI'm pretty sure this is true for MIT and Stanford as well as my high school girlfriend went to MIT on a full-scholarship as well. One thing to know about Harvard specifically, it is even more difficult to be accepted as a transfer student as we only accept as many student as slots open up (i.e. someone has to leave Harvard for a spot to open up). I think my sophomore year there were three transfer students... some years have zero.

I wanna go to college but i have no money...?

You can get financial aid but theres no way your going to get enough to pay for that type of school. If your wanting to go to a high end school like that your going to have to pay for it yourself. For a dependent (I'm assuming you have no children and your under the age of 23) undergraduate student in the first year of school you can only qualify for $5,500 in financial aid between grants and loans. So if school is really important to you and your family can not pay for it then pick a cheaper school. A local university will not cost that much at all and financial aid will cover it totally (or very little will be left to be owed).

How do people go to college with no money?

Financial aid, which may include loans. If they attend a school that doesn't offer much in the way of aid, they may do it almost entirely on loans.

That's a bad idea. The reality is that the expensive private colleges have the most aid money available, so it may turn out to be less costly to attend one of those than to attend a state university that has less aid money available.

I did not come from a rich family, but I attended two Ivy League universities on extremely generous aid packages. Not everyone can attend elite schools, but there are a lot of good private schools with plenty of financial aid money.

Fill out the FAFSA -- if you don't know what that is, see below -- when you are applying to college. Individual colleges may also have their own aid applications, so you'll have to ask about that.

Can I study at Harvard or other Ivy League schools with NO money?

Yes, there are 5 need blind schools in the US. These are Harvard, Yale, MIT, Princeton, and Amherst. Need-Blind DOES NOT mean free however. Each school will look at your income and assets and your parents income and assets. These will be looked at by an agency the school trusts to determine what the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) will be. If you are truly poor after being accepted they will meet your needs as they see them.
