As soon as you insert your sim card and the contacts are visible you can go toPhone>Menu>Import/Export ContactsAnd import all contacts from SIM card that way your sim card contacts will be in your phone.

Happening to me too maybe the people who you think have your number do not actually have it otherwise I have no idea. It only happens with people who not saved my number I think it is a patch or something. So you are no longer able to see people pictures who don't have your number. Don't worry they will patch it again after everyone stalks people there saying I know you deleted my number or something. Edit If it in their call log not stored on their phone book it still counts as them not having your number on whatsapp. Making their picture blank to you. Tell them to save your number if it still happens it must be a setting or something on yours or their phone causing it.
