How Do I Get Nail Polish Remover Out Of A Woolen Table Help

I spilled nail polish remover all over my wood table!!!?

You've got a couple of options, but all start with a call to the store where you bought the table. Get them to find out from the manufacturer exactly what kind of finishing material was used. Chances are that it was lacquer (the most popular industrial wood finish around), and that's good. New lacquer can be added quite successfully on top of old, and that's something to keep in mind depending on how your initial repair attempts go. Regardless of how your table is finished, begin with mild abrasion applied to the dull spot. Some #0000 steel wool is ideal for the task since it's so fine. The idea is to buff the area with mild pressure, paying close attention to what happens as you work. Ideally, the spot will become less dull and more evenly textured as you work. If this begins to happen, replace the steel wool with something even finer, like an old nylon stocking, then rub some more. Chances are excellent that this will hide the damaged area, especially if you extend your buffing action beyond the spot itself. If things still don't look as good as they should, and your table is finished with lacquer, consider applying a fresh coat of lacquer or two on the entire table surface. Since most lacquer formulations dry very quickly, they have to be sprayed on. You can buy aerosol cans of lacquer at any hardware store, or have the table touched up at a wood finishing shop. This won't require complete stripping, just a light preliminary sanding and a couple of minutes in the spray booth.

Staining table after nail polish remover accident? HELP!?

My daughter spilt nail polish remover on my mother-in-law's new coffee table and I was able to get the nail polish remover stain out with fine steel wool, but there's a scratch in table because I was freaked out (because it's not my table) and ended up basically gouging it.

I've sanded it, tried staining it and its not taking the stain!!!! I really don't want to have to take the finish off the entire table and redo the entire thing. Any help????

How do you get nail polish remover out of a wooden table?

So i spilled a little bit of nail polish remover on my mom's brand new wooden table and i need to know how to fix it!! It left a small light stain, and i heard that if you sand it and use some sort of lemon wood cleaner it'll fix it but i don't have a sander thingy or lemon wood cleaner stuff.

How do I get nail polish remover stains out of a wood table? Please help me!?

Pour a small amount of oil onto a clean rag and rub the oil into the marks. Either cooking oil and baby oil will work....whichever you have on hand.

After rubbing the oil in, buff with a different clean rag.

Please try this before doing anything drastic, like sanding or re-finishing.

Will nail polish remover ruin your clothes?

This will depend on the colour, and the type of material. From experience a white cotton shirt became hard in the area that had the remover spilled on it. But otherwise you couldn't tell anything was wrong with it.However, a dark blue satin type shirt faded and ripped in the area of the spillage.I think the remover breaks down some material and they become easily torn.I’ve also ruined my white wooden table, the paint completely peeled off (which is understandable), with remover, unintentionally of course.I can't remember if my remover was acetone free or not but this will also factor into the damage it will cause. Just be careful when using it and keep the bottle closed when not in immediate use.

How could I remove a month old nail polish stain from carpet?

You can try this, but you have to be careful. Nail polish remover is made of acetone. You want to get one that is totally clear and has no color. Then, get in there with your fingers and separate the carpet stands that have nail polish on them. First test the carpet in a place where its not visible, probably someplace covered. Then use a q-tip to clean one stand of carpet with the acetone. See if the acetone removes the color from the carpet. If the carpet is OK, then you are in luck. Take some absorbent paper towel sheets and place one behind the carpet strands you want to clean, so they are kind of pushed or folded onto the paper towel with your finder. While you have them pushed onto the paper towel (its protecting the rest of the carpet), use the q-tip to put some nail polish remover on them and lightly run the q-tip over the affected carpet strands. If you see the nail polish color coming off onto the q-tip, then get a new q-tip. Keep doing this until you get as much of the color out as you can. Keep your finger on the affected strands so they are still pushed up against the paper towel. Now take another paper towel and blot the wet strands to pull the nail polish remover (with the nail polish) out of the carpet and into the paper towel. You are making a paper tower sandwich with the carpet strands. Do this a few tims until its no longer visible. It should work, unless the carpet is very light in color and the there is just too much nail polish. If the stain looks like the photo below, you can tray rubbing it with the acetone and then blotting it with paper towels. This method worked for me, even when I had red varnish on white/grey carpet - from refinished furniture that was delivered but still a little too wet. Blotting, not rubbing with paper towel is the key. Soak the stain into the paper towel and out of the carpet. Good luck.

Can I wash a towel that was used to clean up nail polish remover?

The active and flammable ingredient in most of these is Acetone. If it is really soaking wet with it, hang it outside to dry before popping in the washing machine. If it's only damp, throw it straight in. Acetone is somewhat soluble in water and will be cleaned up in no time.
