How Do I Keep My Russian Dwarf Hamster Warm In The Winter

What does a Dwarf Winter White Russian hamster look like?

The Winter White Hamster originates from Siberia. They are called 'winter white' because their fur turns white during winter which acts as a camouflage against the snow. They are usually 3-5 inches long. Males are slightly bigger than females.

How do i keep my russian dwarf hamster warm in the winter?

If you mom is one of those people who uses eco friendly heating I understand your question. Try using flufy bedding first if you still feels she's cold you could get a lil hide out for her put conton with a mix of to lit paper i had gotten a hamster when she was three weeks old I was scared to. Also you could get a heating pad but it under her cage make sure its not to hot. But I would only do this if there is a second level to the cage so if she's to hot she can chose some where else to go.

What can i do to keep my dwarf hamsters warm?

Hamsters can cope with cold weather quite well since they go into hybernation when it goes to cold to save their body heat. In england, out winters have been down to about Minus 11 degrees some nights I think, but my bedroom is quite warm so about minus 3 or 0 degree's. I usually cover their cage with a blanket. Of course the ventilation may be a problem, but its overnight, then in the day we take it away and just keep a blanket under the cage for some insulation.

You can use a heating mat yes but make sure you cover it with a blanket so it don't heat up too much.
I hope I helped.

Should I buy a robo dwarf hamster or a Russian dwarf hamster?

Personally, I took into account a number of things before buying my hamster.1- What he looks like : I wanted a cute hamster with unique fur that doesn't shed too much. And a cute hamster, obviously.2- The number of hamsters I wanted: One. Thus, I didn't care to check my hamsters gender until quite a while after I bought him, but certainly would've made sure to buy same-sex hamsters at the time, if I had desired another one or few.The rest I didn't take much into consideration. At the end of the day, I truly just wanted the company of one of those cute fur balls.I have however come to greatly appreciate my Winter White hamster. It displays unique colors, is friendly, expressive and rather tameable, and proofs to be a great pet. I adopted him when he was 10 weeks old. To this day, at 6 months old, he remains very active.I've known people to choose Robos because of the warm colors, quieter personalities, and longer life spans (in average: WW: 1 1/2-2 years vs Robo: 2 years).I'm going to drop this picture of my beloved Chihiro, who is a pearl WW (:I hope this helps you choose, if you haven't already!Ps : Regardless of the hamsters breed, getting one as young as 7-8 weeks old is the best option (;

Is it ok to leave my Russian dwarf hamster alone for 2-3 days while we go on a weekend trip as all family/friends are away too?

Yes, it'll be fine.Just make sure you fill up the water bottle, add extra food, and anything else it might need.Hamsters are fine on their own for a few days.

How do I keep my hamster warm in his cage?

Seriously, people who breed hamsters responsibly can actually spell it. Hint there is no "P".

As long as your hamsters cage is kept in the house at a comfortable temperature for humans, he'll be fine. If you want, add some extra bedding.

Do NOT EVER put cotton balls or any other cotton fluff stuff in with your hamster. It can get stuck in their pouches and many hamsters have become entrapped in it often with fatal results.

My russian dwarf hamster is getting white/grey patches on her?

Her fur is nice and normal length and thickness, its just its getting patches of where te fur has turned white/grey ? Her colour is like dark grey or light black with a darker line down the back. One of the patches is about the size of a chocolate button in the middle of her and another is near the bottom of her. Is this normal, or is she a winter white? Btw, i brought her from a really good pet shop ( pets corner) and it was there star breeder, i dont know i dont think she mentioned that it could be a mistske but i dunno so any thoughts? Thanks:)

What are the signs of a DWARF hamster hibernating?

In captive, hamsters typically do not hibernate. They hibernate if it's cold out, and inside a house, it's typically not cold enough for long enough for them to hibernate.

I'm guessing your hamster is sleeping. They do that, quite often actually. Hamsters are nocturnal, so they are MUCH more active at night than during the day.

Also- dwarves are social creatures. If you've only just gotten this one, I'd recommend getting another one if you don't already have 2. Same sex pairs are fine, and both male/male & female/female pairs do fine with one another. Just make sure the cage is large enough for them to run and play as well as get away from each other a bit now and then.

Can I take my dwarf hamsters outside?

Lol everyone's overreacting.

I let mine go outside all the time.
But:
1) Keep them on the lawn, free from anything harmful they could ingest.
2) Supervise them at all costs, and make sure you can catch the hamster should they try to escape or should danger arise (Pigeons usually swoop down and try to get her.)
3) Don't keep them outside for long.

During the winter, when there's snow. I literally place them on the snow for 2 minutes, to have a bit of a sniff, eat, plod around. Then we go back inside.
During the summer, they can stay out for a max of 30 mins, in the shade. You don't want them to get sunburn on their ears.

EDIT: The fresh air and new scents are good for them! Mine love making a little nest and ripping out all the grass for them to sleep in.
