How do I create a book cover spine in Adobe InDesign? It needs to be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch. I also need to know how to add the book's title (and my name as author) to the spine so it reads sideways when the book is lying flat.
Ok so the truth is that you CAN just make one page at the start of your document that is double the width of your regular page plus the width of your spine and most printers would be totally cool with that. On the other hand, if you want to do it nicely, this is how you do it:Make three pages of your regular page size. Open your pages palette [1]. Make sure that you have Allow Document Pages to Shuffle unchecked.Drag and drop your pages in the palette so that they all appear next to each other as on the below image.Now: 1) Select the Page Tool. 2) Select your middle page. 3) Adjust the page width to anything you like. Make sure you turn off your margins (or at least make them really small) for the new spine page – InDesign is going to get unhappy and refuse to resize it otherwise.Tadaaa! Spine done.Now rotating text is easy. Just make your textbox, enter the content, select it, get the Rotate Tool and click and drag left or right to rotate.
