What is difference between section 8 housing and hud housing?

HUD is the Department of Housing and Urban Development which finances housing complexes
for low income seniors and families. I live in HUD housing now and pay one-third of my income for rent. HUD pays the rest.

SO I know that Section 8 also pays rent on the same basis. But what exactly is Section 8 housing. When I tried to apply for it, they told me the "list was closed". The only answer I have gotten is not correct. Would someone please help me?

Where do you sign up for low income housing - section 8 housing in California?

Your local county government will have a housing department. Start there but be prepared for a several year wait for obvious reasons.

If you get $755 a month for SSD/SSI and move into Section 8 housing, paying $144 a month in rent, what does your income decrease to?

Getting Section 8 does not affect your income-your income affects your section 8 (payment) The more you make the more your share of the rent you pay. I don't know how SSI does their calculation as I have never dealt with it. This is what I found: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs-based program. This means any other income you receive, such as earned income from work, will cause your SSI to decrease. This example demonstrates the effect of wages (earned income) on Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Your SSI check will decrease, but because less than ½ of your gross earnings are counted by SSI, you will usually have more money working than when you were not working.

How do you apply for section 8 housing? I'm in Springfield, mo.

Section 8 housing is a rental assistance program invented by the U. S. government in 1937.  A section 8 application is what applicants complete to apply.  This program consists of amended, authorizes and the payment of rental housing assistance to private landlords on behalf of approximately 4.8 million low-income households as of 2008 in the United States. The largest part of the section is the Housing Choice Voucher program which pays a large portion of the rents and utilities of about 2.1 million households. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development manages the Section 8 programs. The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides "tenant-based" rental assistance, so a tenant can move from one unit of at least minimum housing quality to another. It also allows individuals to apply for section 8 for their monthly voucher towards the purchase of a home, with over $17 billion going towards such purchases each year. The maximum allowed voucher is $2,000 a month. Section 8 also authorizes a variety of "project-based" rental assistance programs, under which the owner reserves some or all of the units in a building for low-income tenants, in return for a federal government guarantee to make up the difference between the tenant's contribution and the rent in the owner's contract with the government. A tenant who leaves a subsidized project will lose access to the project-based subsidy. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have created a program called Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH), or HUD-VASH, which distributes roughly 10,000 vouchers per year at a cost of roughly $75 million per year to eligible low income housing applicants and otherwise vulnerable U.S. armed forces veterans. This program was created to pair HUD-funded vouchers with VA-funded services such as health care, counseling, and case management

Can 18 year olds apply for Section 8 housing of HUD?

I'm only 17 but I've been kicked out of my house. I'm trying to find someone to stay with until i turn 18 but I just dont know if i can apply for Section 8 or HUD because I'll be 18 and still in school working a full time job and all that good stuff. So if anyone can answer my question I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Can I apply for section 8? 18 Years old.?

I'm 18 years old with a 2 year old son (Birthday was yesterday) and I've been living with my sister 32 years of age. I asked my mother if I could get section 8 a few months ago and she told me no because I'm not 21 I can't and technically you stay with me still, but I dont stay with her she's been telling her social worker I have so she can get food stamps out of me and my son but she does not use those food stamps one either of us. I work 11pm-6am job while I stay with my sister but I technically have no where to go. My sister let me stay with her so she can have a babysitter to watch her 2 kids while she goes to school, work (stripper), and parties she basically tells me not to complain because she watches my son when I go to work at night (Not really her bf does) and I get treated like a slave she expects me to do all her house work because she to busy to do it, and I finally spoke my mind about it today to her and she basically told me I have until august to get out her house.

IS there a fast way to get approved for section 8?

Yes. The applicant family must be in an emergency situation and live in an area that has Section 8 openings. Emergency shelters (Safe Haven, Salvation Army, etc) can give you help in contacting the local housing authority and providing proof of your family’s emergency. There are 2,426 housing authorities across the country which offer the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. For more on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program visit the Housing Choice Voucher section of our Low Income Housing Renter's GuideDo NOT pay for help with Section 8 applications.
