I can't stop cracking my neck/fingers!?

I can't stop cracking my neck/fingers! I don't know why. I'm trying to stop but I cant. I also sometimes do it without noticing! I'm trying to stop cracking my neck but I feel pain behind my head, and when I crack it the pain goes. I can stop my fingers but, I'm use to it. So that will be easy.

Important Question:
I cant stop cracking my neck? Any helps, suggestions?

My sister is 12 and she cracks her neck, back, fingers, toes, wrist?

she started it when she was like 10 or 11 years old. Is it too late to quit? or does she have time to stop? Shes scared of getting arthritis and she wants to stop but she cant its like impossible to her because when she doesnt crack her body parts its gets uncomfortable for her. What should she do?

I crack my fingers, back, toes and neck every day. Will anything happen to my body?

Eventually it will stop working and you will die.

How do I stop popping my fingers, toes, and neck?

Simply just stop what ever activity you are doing to make that popping sound. You may think bones or joints rub together to cause the noise, but that’s not so.It results from a gas bubble that forms between the bones and “pops.” If you enjoy doing it, keep on. Studies show it doesn’t cause or play a role in arthritis. If you feel regular or severe pain when you do it, see your doctor.

Is it bad to crack your fingers????

It all depends. If you can only crack your joint once every 20 minutes or so, that means the crack or pop is being caused by a vacuum inside the joint that pull gas (nitrogen) into the joint from the surrounding tissue. I heard/read this about 8 years ago but I do not remember the source. If you can crack a joint repeatedly, the pop may be due to a tendon rolling over a bone or some other source for the noise and I can't image that being anything but harmful. Also, cracking a joint in a position/direction that it naturally does not want to bend in, also can't be helpful or healthy. You can overstretch ligaments. I have been cracking my fingers for 20 plus years. No arthritis yet but my fingers do get stiff. I now have to pop them or stretch my fingers frequently (resulting in a pop) to keep them limber. I did stop cracking my fingers a few years ago for a while (few weeks) and I found it was very hard to pop them after. Unfortunately I returned to that bad habit and I can now pop every joint with ease. I wish I never started. I now pop my wrist, elbow, knees, back, neck and toes.

How can I stop cracking my joints??????

Hi, Caylee,

You might try doing what scientists call a "mutually incompatible behavior." Whenever you feel the need to crack one of your joints, do something else that makes it impossible for you to continue. For example, instead of cracking your fingers, pick up a stress ball and squeeze it. Instead of cracking your elbow, bend your arm with your wrist by your ear and balance a coin on it. Of course, you'll need to find alternatives that are appropriate for different situations, and you may need to be a little creative. In fact, when you get the urge to crack your joints, it might be enough just to distract yourself by _thinking_ about something else you can do instead--even if you don't actually _do_ it.

If that doesn't work, you could ask a good friend to smack you whenever you start cracking. :-) Seriously, though, sometimes it's enough to have someone point it out, so you can make a conscious effort to stop.

Good luck!

When I "crack my back" or my fingers, what am I really doing?

Having to answer this question often for patients I actually created a post about it that you can refer to. (Is Popping Your Knuckles/Back/Joints Bad For You? or What Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Do?)To summarize that:The issue is simple sometimes our joints make noise when they move.  Noises are OK.  The old wives tale that popping your knuckles will give you arthritis is just that, a tale.  With that said, knuckle cracking is not a good habit.  There are 4 major noises that joints make and the general rule for all of those noises is, that if it doesn’t hurt, it is probably fine.  Here they are…The Break – This one hurts and is therefore bad. When bones break they make a noise. The Thunk – This one can go either way. The best example I can come up with is a dislocated shoulder. It thunks going out and then thunks coming back in, but they both hurt one makes it feel better after. The Twang – It’s like strumming a guitar string. You’ve seen people with their ankles or wrists popping over and over. It doesn’t hurt, but the ligaments or tendons are being strummed or popped over a bump or restriction of some sort. The Pop – This is the one that the most people refer to with chiropractors or knuckles. The popping is not perfectly understood.  The current thinking is that it is a cavitation. The pressure increases in the joint space causing the nitrogen or other gases to be “popped” from the liquid to gaseous form. It takes a refractory period before this can happen again. That’s why you can’t pop your knuckles immediately after doing it, but have to wait for a time for those to reabsorb back into the fluid before they will pop again.
