Why do white people make fun of my hair?

I am in 8th grade. I am african american and every couple weeks I like to where my hair natural. My friend Kristina makes fun of my hair, telling me I look like a "monkey". It hurts my feelings. Alot. She does it practically everyday. Some of my other friends ask me what is wrong with my hair, or why I didn't straighten it. Or that it looks "messy", "wierd", or "nappy". Some people like to call me "Nappy-Headed" it made me feel bad , and it ruins my day. I like wearing my hair natural. I wish I could be one of those care free people that could care less about people's opinions...but I can't help but feel insecure. And I always end up straightening my hair the next day, even when I don't want to do so.

Why do Jewish people wear wigs?

First of all, most Jewish people do not wear wigs. However, some married women who are Orthodox or Ultra-Orthodox will wear a wig as a headcovering because it is believed that the sight of her hair may be sexually arousing. This was based in early Talmudic times when to expose the hair was considered a humilitation. (Numbers 5:18). If fact, at one point, to appear in public without your head covered was grounds for divorce. Also, some Orthodox women will shave their heads before marrying based upon Deutoronomy 21:12, which describes what a women should do should be taken captive in wartime and become her captor's wife. The removal of the hair and covering her scalp (or hair) by a wig or a cloth was a symbol of her married status. Some very Orthodox women will also cover the wig with a cloth so as not to imply to men that the wig is really their hair and to lead to arousal or the misconception that they are not married.

This is covered in The Second Jewish Book of Why, by Alfred J. Kolatch. Jonathan David Publishers, Inc. Copyright 2000.

How do you distinguish the different grades of virgin human hair?

Hair grade system is used to determine the quality of hair because even though it's virgin hair, they all differ in quality. It is a standard used by companies to advise factories on how thick they want the ends of the hair extensions. It does not reflect the quality of each strand but its proportion.Grade A is the lowest available which is very thin and spindly and the highest grade available is 8A, which is also known as double drawn. The thicker the bundle of hair, the higher the quality. 4A and 5A grade hair is usually sold in local beauty stores and is low quality and sheds a lot. It is usually purchased in shorter lengths, no longer than 12 inches. 6A is great for people on a budget whereas 7A and 8A are a little more expensive but worth the cost. If you want curly hair, it is best to go with 8A grade or higher.

Does black people hair produce oils or do i have to apply it to my hair using hair moisturizers.?

As a matter a fact black people naturally produce the oil in their hair/scalp. And hair looks better natural without the greasy stuff.

How can I get my parents to let me cut my hair? I had a pixie cut about 2 years ago and I loved it. I was the most confident I had ever been. Now my parents have made me grow it out. Their reasoning is so that people won’t assume I’m a boy or gay.

I thank you for creating this question.I will tell you a somewhat similar story. I had boy cut since first grade till my eight grade. But I could not take it after that. I looked the same way in all my photo id cards, family photos and so on. There were years when many strangers assumed I was a boy.Since my 7th grade, I throwed tantrums. I boycotted going to Parlor, cried every time I went to a hair stylist. The hair stylist complained to my mother that he does not want to see me crying each time. Finally after two years, when I began with ninth grade, my mom told me, if you want to grow your hair, you should take care of it.Yes. This happened in 2006. Now it is 2017. I am working away from home. No one at home are bothered what I do to my hair now. You will also have the same freedom when time comes. Please talk to your parents repeatedly and do not give up.It is not just about your hair. It is about your confidence to stand up for what you feel is right and see whether you, know what you are doing. Frankly you have a long way to go and you will have to fight for many things. Start with this. You will smile thinking about this when you are in your 20s/30s and so on.This is how I looked in third grade with a boy cut. The one between that little kid and salwar clad lady is myself. This was in 10th grade after I fought to have my hair in my way.I have not let any hair stylist, touch my hair after 9th grade. I had it trimmed twice after that and recently once, last year.ALL THE BEST.

How often should a person get a haircut?

here's a little background history: Since I was in the 8th grade i would color my hair blonde (my hair is naturally dark brown, talk about a hot mess) but anyways, I decide to color it back to my natural color after about a year of being blonde, it was awful, I hated it but didn't want to constantly deal with the upkeep of blonde hair with DARK roots. So after that I wore my hair in a ponytail, seriously for almost 5 years, only occasionally taking the time to straighten it.

A little over a month ago I got my haircut and it is too short to put in a ponytail (layered and just about to my chin) and now its starting to look a little stringy, so im wondering how often people who normally wear their hair down everyday get it cut? Is once a month too much?

Sorry for rambling!
Thank you :)
