How Do People Who Work In The Tv And Movies Make Money

What makes more money: movies or tv shows?

Well, it all depends on if the story is good enough. Movies usually recollect way more money than tv series, but only good movies. For example, a good Tv show like Friends made more money than many bad movies.
But I don't think any Tv show could ever beat big tanks like LOTR or HPotter, etc.
IF these movies (the Godfather, LOTR,etc.) were to be TV shows instead of movies, then I guess they would have earn a lot of money, but not remotely as got they are still earning for them. Any good TV show has its ups and downs. No matter the story, people often gets tired and the original plot gets modifications and writers can't make an amazing episode after the other. The first one is usually the best and from then on the things go slower, but in movies, writer and producers don't have time for boring things and they leave the best parts for the final cut. So if the movie is good, you get two hours of non stopping entertainment instead of countless 'nice' episodes.
Besides, with time the audience fluctuates, one week you got 100,000 viewers and the following you got 40,000 or 120,000 depending on the episode. With a movie, (IF good), the number of viewers just increases. People tells their family and friends and soon you got million of viewers.
Example: can you guess how many people has watched Star Wars at least once in their lifetime? I can't.
At least that's what I think.

Hope it helps! ;)

Know that you're ONLY going to see at most 30% of the work out there. ONLY agents have access to the serious jobs or the other 70%.

To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won't see you unless you're SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading.

You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways:
-Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too.
-Attend a showcase and impress them.
-Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you're interested in

DON'T
-Email them unless they tell you to. IT'S UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE!
-Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent's ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print.

How much money do movie producers make from a movie?

It varies.  Big time producers like J.J. Abrams and Jerry Bruckheimer can get a huge amount of money upfront, millions, plus a big part of the back end gross profits. Some producers like that opt out of the front end pay days and demand a bigger percentage of the back end, thus taking more ownership of the film.  That's the top one-percenters though.  Most producers work for much less upfront, in the six figure range, or perhaps the low seven figures, and then rely on the back end profits.  One thing to keep in mind is that producers generally don't get paid to develop a slate of projects.  Development is often unpaid.  They may have a "term deal" with a studio, which means that the studio gives them office space and covers certain expenses.  However, producers will most often be working for free until they have a project greenlit by a studio or investors.  Lastly, the "producer" credit is often used as currency itself.  There are times when a person has been attached to a project, but then replaced early on in the development process, but are given a producing credit for their time and contributions.  So it varies for sure.

How do direct to tv movies make money?

Your question and explanation refer directly to "made for television" movies, not films made for outside distribution. In these cases, the production company is usually financed by the network for which it is made, whether this is Disney, CBS, LifeTime or AMC. In this sense, they make money in much the same way any other network programming does, such as sitcoms or dramatic series, variety programs, even the news. Which is to say, of course, through advertising revenue. Sometimes a program will have an additional sponsor directly for that program, maybe there will be product placement to offset some costs. And there may be a partner company involved in financing, especially if the program is going to be extra expensive -- in these cases there is usually an additional distribution deal in place for DVD, or there will be if the product is expected to have legs. And, of course, there are foreign rights. Those are often places for a movie to make quite a bit more money.Rarely, but occasionally, a movie made for television will end up getting a theatrical release. That could happen before or after the TV airing, though it is more likely to be done for foreign release than domestic. Also, many made for TV movies now are released on video formats in "unrated" or "uncut" editions to include materials often just shot for the foreign market. Even television series here used to shoot some nude scenes to add for foreign television on occasion, or shoot multiple angles to use dependent upon the market. All of these tactics help to boost overall sales, making money for the production company or network.

How do actors/actresses make money?

I've been curious about how actors/actresses make money. Does it depend on how much money a movie makes. For example, how did the Twilight saga actors make so much money? Do they get a percentage of our money every time we buy a ticket at the box office? Or do they get a fixed amount determined before a movie is released? Do the actors get any money from DVD/Blu ray sales?

How does this work with TV?

How do television shows make money?

Popularity and quality. In the slowly dying network advertising model, TV series could easily be broken down by the demographic they appealed to and the ratings they received so a value could be assigned to the commercial slot.Popular action series like 24 had huge ratings and the price to advertise during those shows was commensurate. Hit comedies, however, like Friends, Two and a Half Men, and Seinfeld do traditionally hold the records for highest ratings (SEE List of most watched television broadcasts). This is mainly because sitcoms serve all demographics and action series tend towards more specialized ones.In this model, the advertising revenue ultimately depends on the gross popularity of a show. Both high quality and and low quality shows that are popular survive and generate lots of advertising revenue.Perversely, in this model, high quality shows, with niche audiences, do not survive (See... My So Called Life, Firefly, Arrested Development.)However, today the business model for Television has changed. It's moved rapidly from an advertising based model to the subscription model of streaming networks. In this new model, consumers purchase subscriptions based on the entire stable of content a streaming service offers. So the formula for profits has changed. On Netflix, HBO, or Amazon, a series doesn't need as large a viewing audience to bring in profits because small loyal niche audiences of many high quality series as well as 'prestige' series improve the streaming service's brand and increase subscriptions. In this model, the quality of the shows, as well as a diversity of genres, is valued in addition to their popularity / views. In summary, for profits in the TV biz using the network advertising model, mass appeal was necessary and sufficient; quality was neither necessary nor sufficient. But today in the streaming subscription model, quality is necessary and sufficient, mass appeal is sufficient but not necessary.tl;dr Used to be shows needed to be widely popular to make money. Today good shows with small audiences can make money too.

How are TV channels able to show movies?

I'm just wondering how television work to show certain movies. like why don't they show recent movies that are out? I know they do in some chnnles like FX...do they have to buy the movie and have granted permission in stuff? Like why doesn't Disney show all the Disney classic movies? like sleeping beauty or the hunchback of notre Dom. how does everything work out?

How does a torrent uploader earn money?

There are four broad types of torrent uploaders. Only two of them make any money. First off, there's your generall run of the mill file sharers. Alice here, who's listening to a CD she really likes and decides to share it or Bob over there who's just read a book and thinks others might like it. They make their torrent, up it to TPB or somewhere, and then mostly forget about it. Making money? Last thing on their mind. Second, there are your committed uppers in it for the status. People like Jaybob or Axxo if you remember him. They rip or they convert and they tag stuff with their name and they try and make a name for themselves. Again, money isn't an issue here. I'd stick the uppers who have dedicated servers and are members of private trackers in this group too. With them, it's status within their peer group: I've upped more than you; I can seed faster than you. Third, there are those who own sites and are trying to make money from ads. This is a small group. A few people out there make their own torrents and up them to a tracker somewhere and try and build a brand, build a site of their own. It's hard work. Most will just scrape torrents from elsewhere. Fourth, and the only people who probably make real money from this, are the malware distributors. The people who package up trojans and adware and spamware into a torrent and hope you'll download and install it unawares. These people spam the major sites and hope that some of their content will get through before it's picked up by mods. (This category could also include people who upload fake movies / tv / etc and demand that you pay for the required codec before watching - or in most cases, not watching). But on the whole, most torrents of verified content are upped by people who are not in it for the money. It's one of those areas which continues to distinguish bittorrent from the cyberlocker ecosystem: at the heart of the community, there is a core sharing ethos which continues to remain strong,

Can I use video clips from TV shows and movies in my YouTube videos if I make money from them?

Yes you can use materials from other copyrighted works like TV shows and Movies. But You have to make sure it is a FAIR USE.What is a Fair Use: Fair use is a legal doctrine that says you can use the copyrighted material from other works without asking for their permission. And it can be used to make money as well, Here’s how you can use other videos without getting sued or your channel taken down by youtube,You can make parodies of existing shows by changing the audio or combining short clips that give it a new meaning. You can use 10–15 sec clips to review these movies or shows, that is a fair use.You can highlight mistakes in a scene or storyline by adding your own voice or narrating the same. You can also have something like top ten or top twenty movies or shows to watch and use the clips from these movies, its a fair use as you are not earning by broadcasting but earning by reviewing or promoting. Anyways if you are promoting someones work they will never take an offence, its the best way of using fairly. You can also think of many other creative ways which fall under the fair use doctrine.
