If your sync is on it will add your contacts who aren't friends, and people you've contacted on market place pretty much automatically. Also if the number of a contact belonged to someone else at one point, they sometimes will also be added. It's weird I know. But to stop that turn off your sync and remove the unwanted contacts on messenger.

I use messenger but not as a first choice. I use it because others contact or message me using it.My “Blocked” List in messenger is the same as my “Blocked” list in Facebook. So anyone I block in FB will not see me and I will not see them and we will have no contact through Messenger. Getting reconnected requires me to UnBlock them on Facebook.I know of no way to actually “delete” a person on Messenger.
