How many rounds does a Grand Slam tournament in tennis, such as the US Open, have?

Thanks for the A2A. There are seven rounds in every Slam tournament, including the US Open:First Round, with 128 players (sixty-four matches)Second Round, with 64 players (thirty-two matches)Third Round, with 32 players (sixteen matches)Fourth Round, with 16 players (eight matches)Quarterfinals, with 8 players (four matches)Semifinals, with 4 players (two matches)Final, with the last two players playing for the titleBoth singles draws (men and women) have seven rounds and 128 players (32 seeds) beginning the tournament.Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles have instead only 64 pairs (16 seeds) each, so there's one less round (basically, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, QFs, SFs and F).Mixed Doubles has only 32 pairs (8 seeds), so two less rounds compared to Singles (1st, 2nd, QFs, SFs and F).

Question about my FIRST TENNIS TOURNAMENT?

Why does Federer often congratulate his defeated opponent?

“I fear no one, but I respect everyone.” - Roger FedererFederer was hot head during his younger days where he couldn’t take any sort of failure. You can watch this video where federer lost his nerve in 2000s.Over the years, he has matured and understood that he is one of the greatest players on the planet and millions of fans and peers look up to him as an inspiration. He know that players respect him for what he has achieved and he is kind of overjoy for winning the 19th Grand Slam and 8th Wimbledon championship after 5 years and at the age of 35. He congratulated the opponent for reaching final and giving him a tough fight in the most famous Tennis Tournament in the world. He is way above Arrogance, Jealous, Pride [in a bad way] and Pessimism.Go Fedex !!!

What are the advantages and disadvantages of single-elimination style tournaments?

Thanks for the A2A!Pros:Quick - relatively few number of rounds to determine a winnerClear and easy to understandEvery match is influential, so no match is boringCons:Many participants will get a final ranking that is not indicative of their abilities. For instance, if the 3rd strongest team loses to the strongest team in the first round, they place as low as possible on the bracket. Their position isn't a result of their abilities, but of the randomness of the matchups.Doesn't work well in a game that frequently results in a draw.Have to have an even number of participants. It doesn't take into account match-to-match advantages. If one participant gets an advantage from the nature of the game, their opponent doesn't have the opportunity to also have that advantage in another match. As an example of the nature of the game, think of having possession of the ball first in football. It doesn't reflect the variety of strategies and potential outcomes of a match. For instance, a best-of-5 competition reveals which contestant is more consistently stronger, instead of who happens to win a particular match.I hope that helps!

What is the best web application for setting up an office ping-pong tournament to support ladder tournaments, leaderboards (daily, weekly, and/or monthly), and challenges?

At my workplace, we started with using just Google Sheets with some complex formulas (linked below) to track our ping pong scores and generate a leaderboard. We’ve since rebuild it with a proper back-end with a nice UX interface and launched it as a standalone app: PongUp! • The ping pong scoreboard for awesome offices, and have been incrementally adding features to ever since. If you’re looking for an office ping-pong app, give PongUp a spin! (there’s a free plan to try it out)Alternatively, here’s a link to the old google sheet that we were using: PingPong Score Tracker & Leaderboard (Google Sheet Template) . Feel free to copy and use it if it suits your needs, hopefully this will be helpful for someone!

What is the history of tennis' strange scoring system?

The origins of the 15, 30, and 40 scores are believed to be medieval French. It is possible that a clock face was used on court, with a quarter move of the hand to indicate a score of 15, 30, and 45. When the hand moved to 60, the game was over. However, in order to ensure that the game could not be won by a one-point difference in players' scores, the idea of "deuce" was introduced. To make the score stay within the "60" ticks on the clock face, the 45 was changed to 40.Therefore, if both players have 40, the first player to score receives ten and that moves the clock to 50. If the player scores a second time before the opponent is able to score, they are awarded another ten and the clock moves to 60. The 60 signifies the end of the game. However, if a player fails to score twice in a row, then the clock would move back to 40 to establish another "deuce".Source:-Wikipedia
