How Does American Dream Apply To Your Life

What is the American Dream and how is the real American life?

I was taught through the examination of American Literature in college that the American dream is the idea that you can do and become better than your parents were -- and you can do it on your own. Also a lot of it is, no matter what you were born into you, you can gradually become better with hard work. Generally, the American dream is focused on socio-economic factors. Income, employment, education, etc. For example, if you were a baby boomer your father would have been a veteran with a job, probably without a college degree, and a small home. The American Dream would dictate that baby boomer would have a college degree, a better job, and a better home. That was possible for a long time. However, considering that the baby boomers proceeded to destroy the economy, it won't likely be happening for many people. It was also apparent for much of American history, and still apparent today, that the conventional view of the American Dream was exclusively something only white Americans / white men could achieve. Much of Black American Literature is focused on the inaccessibility of the American Dream for African Americans -- consider Raisin in the Sun.Also as to your sitcom questions -- sitcoms have LONG portrayed the living situations in cities as something they are not. Sorry FRIENDS and How I Met Your Mother, young 20-somethings are NOT able to living in big beautiful apartments in Manhattan.

What does the American dream mean 2 u?

is this a question that your teacher gave you? I had to do this last year. It means to be have more rights, and to fight for some things that I believe in...some but not all. I could hold a protest sign on the sidewalk in my front yard, and chances are, I won't get shot. It's being able to have a bit more freedom, and to have the opportunity to create your own business, and receive a decent education. America has its ups and downs. It's not perfect. Haven't you read the grapes of wrath? People come here thinking that it is going to be a wonderful place, but the people here can be so prejudice, and it really isn't what everyone claims it is. There are much worse places to be though. But people do take for granted a lot of the rights we have here, and there are a lot of benefits for women here too that aren't available in some other places.
why the thumbs down?

What does the American Dream mean to you?

To me the American Dreams that you can be successful at your own terms. That you can enjoy a life you set up for yourself, and be happy. That you learn to get up from your mistakes, and keep on trying. That you can live life the way you want to, if you try hard enough.

The President plays a huge role in the freedoms we have, what he vetos and his choices affect my freedom and the other people of the world. I'm 100% against Obama and his socialism.

Why do I need to disclose personal information?

What is the American Dream?

I think the American dream is to be the best and the biggest. I mean look at our history. We over through England, than we tried to rid our land of the Native Americans, after that we tried to take over the Panama Islands, Alaska we bought from Russia, Hawaii we just plain took over, the Virgin Islands, now we're in Iraq. What's next..........Ireland, or Italy?

What is the American Dream?

In a nutshell, it is to live a life of liberty and pursuit of happiness and to be better off socially, economically, and spiritually than your parents and see your children better off in these areas than you are. Sadly, I somewhat agree with another person that answered, it is becoming far less attainable than in the past.

How have you fulfilled the American dream in your life?

Thanks for asking.“The American Dream” is different things to different people. While I have achieved a modicum of economic self-sufficiency, that is not my “American Dream.”The American Dream to me is liberty and the freedom to become whatever I and my children, etc, are willing to work for. My American Dream is for every American to have that freedom and opportunity. That Dream does not yet exist in America.
