How Is Check Fruad Comparable To Modern Day Pick Pocketing

How bad is pickpocketing in Beijing?

There were 22,000 arrests for pickpocketing in the past five years, according to this website.  How many were not caught is the big question.  Maybe 99 out of 100?  Being cautious in any large city where people are constantly 'bumping' into each other is prudent advice. When I visited Beijing, this was not an uncommon sight.

How bad is pickpocketing in New York City?

Pickpoketing occurs in all tourist intense cities; and it's tourists, not natives, that they go after.  Why tourists? a) Big poke, lotsa plastic c) Plastic foreign connected, and slow on the intercept/blocking c) Tourists can't hang around if the play goes bad; they can't I.D. you or show up at a trial.   How is it done: TWO people, one to get in your way, or distract you so you must stop suddenly, and the other to take the wallet. (Pick it? No; Usually cut a slit in your pocket over the wallet, so that it falls out. Some even first 'mark' the location of the wallet with chalk, to show how numb you really are. (origin of the word 'Mark' for the victim; if the wallet can be marked, it can be dropped... with a razor cut).      Favorite hangouts for pick-pockets: where tourists might be APPRISED of pick-pockets in the area (by a shill); the best targets will turn green, and suddenly reach for their wallet to make sure it's still there; best targets may also be shouldering an expensive camera (the Green tourist points to just where the poke is, and the camera wielding tourist is too occupied with the camera to notice the loss of a wallet). (Big fave: SF, cablecar turn-around at Mkt).     The pair of pickpockets will follow the mark for HOURS if necessary, to choose the right situation. Crowed enough for a bump, not so crowded that they can't run-off. The partner may be part of a hand-off, or a misdirect as well, if things go awry.

Can the security company see expunged convictions?

You have to walk on eggs with these security companies, as they are usually owned by people who don't have the slightest idea of what security does. I applied for a security guard position in California after having served as a deputy sheriff in Arizona. I was rejected because of my answer to one question. Do you often think of how to steal from the company? I answered yes, and appealed. the owner buys a pre-packaged test, and the answer to that question, they claim, is no. I argued that that is the job of security, to figure out how the bad guys are going to try to take us and prevent it. My appeal was unsuccessful.

Is it still shoplifting if you put an item in your pocket but never leave the store,?

Be careful of the answers you have so far.The definition of shoplifting varies by state law, and so many people answered without even asking what the state was. . In my state, as soon as you conceal it or alter the packaging it is shoplifting.

What they are doing is called a civil demand, so it has nothing to do with shoplifting laws, it has to do with violating the rights of the store.

If you pay, nothing else will happen and there will be no public record. If you don't pay, they can sue your daughter when she turns 18. That will be public record and will show up on employment background checks.

You daughter is bound to learn a lesson here, the question is which lesson? Will she learn about right and wrong? Will she learn about taking responsibility for her actions? Or will she learn to break the law and hope to get off on a technicality?

Should I do this or is it a scam?

When is a bounced check considered a felony? Why?

Short answer: when there is an intent to defraud by attempting to use the check.Different US states have varying laws. In general, “Issuing worthless documents” requires an intent to defraud. This intent can be proven, if, for example, you knew that there was no money in the account, or that the account was closed, or that the account didn’t belong to you, or if you immediately put a stop on the check after receiving your stuff. One possible defense is that you didn’t know that there were insufficient funds. This is usually established by immediately paying the amount in cash to the payee. It’s still a “bounced check”, but it’s not an intent to defraud.

How likely is it to get jail time for retail fraud of the 3rd degree?

The other day I was caught shoplifting some $27 razors from Walmart. They asked me on my way out of the store if I had anything that I didn't pay for, and I was honest and pulled the razors out of my pocket. After some time sitting in the office, they decided to check my receipt. Then I told them there was some things in my cart I didn't pay for (I went through self checkout). It was just little stupid things like food. All together it was about $50 worth of stuff including the razors. They banned me from Walmart and I ended up getting arrested for retail fraud of the 3rd degree, which is a misdemeanor.. I have court in 2 weeks. I read that I could get fines, probation, community service, and up to 93 days of jail time. I'm just wondering how likely it is that I get jail time. This is my first offense. I have never been in trouble with the law before. My record is totally clean other than a small ticket for an accident I was in 2 years ago. I really don't want to go to jail obviously. I totally regret what I did. This isn't my first time stealing. Only my first time getting caught. But it was definitely a wake up call for me. I've never stole anything major. It was usually just me under-ringing my items at self checkout. I'm really worried they're going to look back on the cameras and see what else I took. I told them I only did it once before (which is obviously a lie)
So in a nutshell:
-Can they charge me with stealing more stuff on different days?
-Can they run my debit card and see the days I was there and match it to camera footage?
-How should I act when I go to court? Calm? Sad? Should I own up to anything I did in the past?
-I was thinking about writing an apology letter to walmart. Would that help? Or is that weird?

Please help me out here. I promise I'm not a bad person. This is the worst thing I've ever done and I deeply regret it getting this out of control. I'm just paranoid about all the other little things I took. And I desperately don't want to go to jail. Oh and I'm 19 by the way. And I was super cooperative throughout the whole thing. I just wasn't totally honest at first. And still didn't own up to how often I do this. Please and thank you so much!!
