Are men and women treated equally in India today?

No, they aren't. And here's why:Indian women are victims of a huge variety of crimes like objectification, verbal and physical abuse, catcalls on the roads, and the biggest of them all, rape. India is ranks third in the world in terms of number of rapes reported, and that's when rape is a severely under reported crime.Indian law still doesn't consider marital rape as rape. We have a thriving tradition of arranged marriages and yet people think that all stranger husbands are saints who'll always respect their wives. We still witness a significant number of female foeticides, despite the fact that they are illegal.Girls are kept at home in the rural areas while boys are sent to school. In general, within a family, boys are nearly always given the first choice, even in terms of nutrition. Women often face opposition from their in-laws and their husbands for continuing to work after marriage. Everyone seems so frantic about fake dowry cases. They ignore the fact that there are several real situations where the boy's family asks for dowry even today.Discrimination against women in professional fields is rampant, accompanied by a wage gap, and sexual harassment by your boss is an added bonus.Since the topics like sex, menstruation, virginity are all taboo, women have to bear comments and judgement while buying sanitary napkins or condoms, both from the shopkeepers and from the other customers. Indian society is far from being one that views men and women as equal.

Treatment for Indian Man Widower vs women widow?

In India, widow remarriages are legal. However, widows are considered unlucky in the traditional society. Widows face challenges of child support, finance, social stigma, security and remarriage. Family of widowers however, sympathize and console him with remarriage, many a times, to an unmarried woman. Relatives of the widowers often provide support to children making it easier for him to move on. Similar is the case with divorced men seeking unmarried women from poorer backgrounds. Such practices question the law for allowing a divorced man or widower, to remarry an unmarried woman and thus making remarriage for a woman more difficult.

Is Indian society hypocritical in its treatment of women?

"Why do you want to get into sports?""You can't do that, that's a man's job""Come straight home after college, don't go anywhere else"Yes, I am stating the usual questions most of the women has to go through on a daily basis. And the really disturbing part is that the list I have mentioned above is not an exhaustive one. Women has always been considered as a liability by almost all the men. The kind of discrimination and discomfort they face in their daily lives, I don't think any so called men can go through. The amount of crimes against women is really high and it doesn't seem to stop as well. Infanticides, molestations, public teasing etc. Are the devil's that haunt them, and it's high time to start respecting them because at the end of the day they are human beings too.As a proud male feminist, I would like to applaud all the brave hearts out there, men and women, who has tried to give women a better place to live. Before I proceed, I want you to understand what feminism actually means. Feminism in simple terms means to establish equal opportunities for women with respect to health care, education etc. And to clear off the common misconception, it does not mean to pull all men out of power.Feminism benefits all, right from an infant to an old person. It would lead to a peaceful society as the decisions made will not be biased towards a certain gender. It would bring about a sense on security in the minds of women when they are around men.Men and women needs to start understanding this fact and it has to start right from the house they live in so that the next generation benefits from it.And most importantly HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY to all the women out there who has endured the obstacles that has been placed in front of them by the society and to all the future women CEOs, Artists, Engineers and other professionals.#internationalwomensday

Do Indian men treat their wives badly?

From what I know(which isn't much)
India is still very much a male dominated society. People want sons to carry their line on.
My mom went to college with a guy just two years ago from India, and in his village he said that they still hung the sheet from the honeymoon out the window to prove that their wife was a virgin.
I think there is probably a lot less equality in small villages, because traditions don't change when there isn't an influx of new ideas. However, in larger cities, I am sure that there is much more equality. I do not understand Indian culture, and never will since I was not born there. However, I believe that eventually women will be treated as equals, and that there is progress being made.

What are the discriminatory treatments of women in an Indian society?

There are discriminatory treatments starting from birth and the amount of discrimination varies depending on what section of society one belongs to.Though there has been a lot of improvement in this aspect, there is lot of scope of improvement in this area.Birth: Still there are a lot of parents who do not like to have a girl child. A girl child is considered as a burden. Though, in today’s age, women are becoming financially independent, this kind of thought is still not a rarity in our society. The reasons that are seen by them, is marriage, dowry, women’s sole responsibility after marriage is take care of in laws and their family (Paraya Dhan concept). Also, the security aspect scares some of them. There is eve teasing, molestation, etc scares some of them.Dowry: Even though there are laws to prevent it, still peoples mindset has not been changed. Girl’s parents give wealth/ display wealth, in certain cases, grooms parents demand it. In arranged marriages, the marriage talks always have a talk “How much can you give?”. In a marriage, it often happens that girls Parents are looked down. A sense of supremacy is being displayed by bridegrooms parents. This situation is changing slowly, rather very slowly. There is discrimination in family, in the opportunities a girl can take up in career, in sharing the work load and responsibility of bringing up kids after marriage. Career takes second place and women often find it difficult to balance work and career. When they do not have enough support from family, some times they have to quit/ chose jobs that are far less to what they are capable of.People rarely watch women’s sports. There are various movies that have brought up the factor of discrimination. Watch Chak De, Mary Kom, Dangal etc. Also see below:Women in India - Wikipedia
