How long do MacBooks last?
I have a 2005 13″ MacBook and 2006 17" and 15" MacBook Pro all chugging along. The MacBook battery is dead, and I upgraded the disk drive on the 17" Pro about three years ago to 1.5tb. Everything's working just fine.P.s., I drove my car over my 17" MacBook Pro in 2009, it survived. I did have to replace the screen and DVD drive. It was an accident, nothing to do with my opinion of the hardware. Curiously, Apple didn't chose to share my story as a testimonial.Update: 8/2016. My 2006 17″ MacBook Pro, which has been turned on 24/7 for much of the past 5 years, is starting to have hard disk errors. Fortunately, I have my photos and music redundantly backed up. I'm moving to an 27″ iMac with an external drive system for archive, etc. The other 2006 MacBook Pro and 2005 MacBook are still chugging away. I use and iPad or iPhone for most of my former laptop stuff. Probably won't replace the laptops anytime soon.Update 6/2017: All three MacBooks are still working. The occasional disk errors on the 17″ continue, but the CPU and screen are still hanging in there. They are 11 and 12 years old.Update 1/2018 : the hard disk errors on the 17" required a reformat. Works better after rebooting.Regarding Apple.Frankly, I liked the 17″ screen. I want a 17″ display. Also, the prices charged by Apple for their 13 and 15″ pro systems as of 2016 are way too much for my taste. The 15″ is priced about the same as what I paid for the 17″ in 2006. These prices should be coming down, Apple! I also so dislike the trend toward less connectors and configuration options. I can live without a DVD drive. A thin form factor is sexy, but that's what iPads are for, IMHO.I ALSO WANT PORTS!!!!If I need a high-powered laptop, I'll probably look PC in the future. I used PCs for 20 years, moving to Mac in 2005 when I got sick and tired of PC class systems inability to manage video, etc, predictably, out of the box (2004–6 or so). The macs “just worked” and I loved them. No futzing.

I am going to get a laptop in a few years and I'm not sure how long a Macbook Pro would last. (with the new 8 hour battery) If anyone knows how long it lasts, please compare it to a PC so i know how longer it would actually be.

That is anyones guess, it will also depend on how much you use it or how hard you are on it My MacBook came with a basic one year warrenty, and my campus added a 3 year warrenty to go along with it I would highly suggest an extra warrenty, every laptop I have ever had has had atleast some hard ware problems while I owned it. I have already had to have Mac put a new monitor in my laptop, and now I need to send it back again to get a new dvd burner. On the plus side, they have amazing customer service. It took 3 days to send them my computer, fix it, and get it back. Monitors/batterys are problems with laptops, they break often no matter which brand you buy...Mac or PC

I got this MacBook Pro in late 2006, and use it a lot, almost daily. For at least 6 months, I used it to download a lot of stuff, and it became slow, and I reinstalled the Tiger. Now, it's normal, and not slow anymore. It doesn't do weird things, and has had an apple repair 3 months ago. When do you think it will ka-put, die 100%?

Hello everybody. I have recently (1.5 months ago) purchased the 13 inch Macbook Pro. It's the entry model. I would like to know how many years it would last. I had my old Macbook for 4 years until it overheated too much and melted something in the keyboard, suspending my typing. What I do with this machine is... Word processing Keynotes (PPT's) Excel/number files Surfing the net Sending emails Typing long documents Playing games (Need for Speed, Minecraft, Starcraft2, NOVA, etc.) Watching a lot of movies Downloading a lot of stuff .... and that's about it. Also please keep in mind that this laptop is for my school (primarily), so it will be lugged around a lot, in my bag, in my hands, etc. BTW, if it helps, I'm 15 (year/grade 10). Thanks guys. I got a new MacBook Pro (2017) and I carry it to my work daily. I start my work with 100% battery at 10 AM and work till 7 PM (one hour break in between and two short breaks of roughly 15 minutes each). So I work roughly for 7–8 hours and I return home with 20–30% juice remaining. So I would say that a new MBP charged 100% may last close to 9–10 hours (I mostly write code if that counts as heavy work).Also note that I keep the screen brightness to approx. 50% and keyboard light off as my office has sufficient lighting and I don’t need backlit keyboard.You can check cycle count. Apple says that upto 1000 cycle counts the battery retains 80% of its performance.Right now, I am typing this answer on my Mac at 7:01 PM with 30% battery left. ;-)
