How Long Does It Take For A Cartilage Piercing To Create A Hole Permanently

Can I remove my cartilage earring permanently (after having it for 5 months)?

Well when i had my cartilage pierced it
was a really bad mistake of mine because
i was just in pain all the time in my ear
and i had mine for maybe 8 months and
it got infected so i just took it out because
it kept bugging me and to this day there
really is no scarring you can barely see a
hole were i got it done and yes the hole
will heal shut within a day really
thats how long it took mines
but if you want to take
it out i would because if it is sore and making
you uncomfortable then why wear it ya know.

Do cartilage piercings leave permanent holes?

No, if you take it out it will eventually heal up

Are ear piercings permanent? How long does it take for it to become permanent?

I don't think there is a correct answer on this one. It really all depends on the ear itself. My Mom has double piercings and she can leave her earrings out for a year and they go right back in. My Grandmother could not leave her's out for a week without them growing up. So maybe it depends on several factors, such as the intensity of the ear itself as well as the ability of each individuals healing rate. I also know my brother-in-law had his gauged and does not wear earrings and he has a very large noticeable hole that you could stick your pinkie in also.

How do you get rid of the hole in your ear from a cartilage piercing?

That depends on how long the hole has been there. If it was a recent piercing, it may heal up but if it's been there a long time, it will likely stay open. The skin may grow back over the hole, but the cartilage itself won't heal. I have a helix piercing that was done in 1999. It took a few years to heal completely and stop hurting when I wore a ring in it, particularly if I slept on that side of my head. The first few years, I wore an earring in it continuously. Currently I've gone as long as a year without putting an earring in it but the hole has not healed - the skin hasn't even grown back over it. I believe this is likely because it's a helix piercing and it was such a thick piece of cartilage to begin with. Nose piercings seem to heal more quickly and easily, but sometimes leave a scar for months or years.

Is it normal that my ear is purple after a cartilage piercing?

How purple? Be descriptive, how long ago did you get piercing? What material? How was it done? What are you cleaning it with? Purple is bad so unless it's just a little bit of discolouration I'd be prepared to either remove it or change your cleaning

Why does my cartilage ear piercing have a bump on the back of the hole?

I just recently got 3 cartilage ear piercings last month. Now I took them off to see how the healing is doing but there is a bump on each one on the back. Why is that?

I also have another cartilage piercing from 2 years ago and I also have a bump on the back of the whole as well and it's still there. Why is this? Will it ever go away?

Can I stretch my cartilage piercing from 16g to a 14g?

I got a piercing in my cartilage piercing about a year ago (shortly after I got it pierced it got an infection and took about 6 months to go away). I meant to ask my piercer to use a 14g needle but I completely forgot to and I got a 16g. 16g rings that I like are kinda hard to find and I would really like to have a 14g. Can I stretch it myself or should I go see my piercer? And if I can stretch it myself how should I do it and what kind of earring should I use?

Here's a pic of where mine is (this is not my ear)

It's not an industrial piercing btw. It's located around where the end of the industrial piercing is in the pic.

What will happen if I take out my unhealed cartilage piercing, permanently?

I had it done at a Claire's in Germany with a gun....and after reading about it, i'm considering taking it out to let it heal and get it done later on by a professional with a needle.
Is there a point in doing this? And if I do, what happens to the wound?

Clear liquid coming out of cartilage piercing?

I got my cartilage piercing 4 weeks ago this Thursday. My piercer told me in 4 weeks (6 at most) I could come back and have her change it. Saving a trip back into town I decided to do it myself a few days ago.. it was okay the first couple days and then today it has been hurting. I went to check it to make sure there was nothing wrong with it, but what I found made me nervous. I looked at the back of the new earring and saw a clearish liquid oozing out. I decided to take the earring out and see what it was. I wiped my ear on a tissue and saw it was just a clearish liquid with a pinkish tint to it. I washed it off like the piercer told me to do when I first got it done and it seemed fine and was no longer sore. Is this a sign that it's getting infected? If so, what should I do?

Hole is raised a bit around my cartilage piercing?

It's probably built up scar tissue which is common in any cartilage piercings. It will take a few months to go away if it's going to go away.. the majority of them do go away with time. Mine didn't because I had 2 massive infections and shattered cartilage (from Claires piercing gun-really dumb idea, never get cartilage pierced with a gun) so the raised scar is permanent. As long as you keep it pretty clean and it doesn't start getting an infection it should be ok.

Try to leave it alone for a couple months (you don't have to take it out but don't play with the jewelry or anything) besides cleaning it. Using the tea tree oil might help too, I have also heard that soaking the area in warm sea salt water will make the bump go away.
