How Long Does It Take For A Louse To Lay Eggs

How long do lice live and how long does it take for their eggs to hatch?

Head lice live about 30 days from egg to mature adult.
Head lice are mature and able to breed around two weeks after hatching.
The eggs take about a week to hatch.

--------------------

Head lice are a pain and they need careful attention to get rid of them.

You will need the following...
Lice shampoo
Fine-toothed lice/nit comb
Disinfectant

Optional: Lavender oil
--------------------------------------...

Hair care:

If you opt to use Lavender oil then rub it into the hair before shampooing it and run the lice comb through, the oil will make it difficult for the lice to run and more will come away with the comb.

You need to wash the infected hair with the lice shampoo each day. while the shampoo is in, run the lice comb through the hair (again) and wash the comb off after each pass.

After rinsing rub a bit of lavender oil back through the hair to again make it slightly sticky and more challenging for the lice.

You should aim to also comb through the hair twice a day when it is dry (preferably morning and evening)

You will need to repeat this routine for at least two weeks and it's worth checking for another week or so after that.

--------------------------------------...

Washing:

The problem with lice is that they can live away from the host and often take up residence in clothing and fabrics.
If you have a lice infestation then change and wash the person's bedsheets each day. Wash the bedsheets separately and by hand in hot water; add a cap of disinfectant to be sure.
Do the same with the person's clothes and any other fabrics that might have come in contact with their hair (towels for example)

--------------------------------------...

Other:

If the person has long hair then it is advisable to tie it up (throw away any hairbands after)

Make sure the person infested has a separate hard bristled hairbrush/comb (preferably plastic) and rinse it after each use.

How long does it take for headlice eggs to hatch?

About two weeks from the head lice was laid. Lice eggs (called nits). These look like tiny yellow, tan, or brown dots before they hatch. After hatching, the remaining shell looks white or clear. Lice lay nits on hair shafts close to the skin's surface, where the temperature is perfect for keeping warm until they hatch. Nits look sort of like dandruff, only they can't be removed by brushing or shaking them off. Unless the infestation is heavy, it's more common to see nits in a child's hair than it is to see live lice crawling on the scalp. Lice eggs hatch within 1 to 2 weeks after they're laid.

Adult lice and nymphs (baby lice). The adult louse is no bigger than a sesame seed and is grayish-white or tan. Nymphs are smaller and become adult lice about 1 to 2 weeks after they hatch. Most lice feed on blood several times a day, but they can survive up to 2 days off the scalp.

How long before lice lay eggs?

Just like anyone that is pregnant, the birth time is dependent on when they got pregnant. So they can lay eggs at any time and they lay about 15 to 20 at a time.

Since it is still early into the process for you, I would NOT suggest that you go out and buy RID or some other chemical and dump it on your head. Instead, you should be able to treat this with a chemical free solution that immobilizes the lice and dissolves the glue that is holding the nits (eggs) onot yoru hair. since it is chemical free, it is safe to use.

You should check out the products under the name brand of NitFree and get their mousse and their comb and maybe some Neon Nits and Mint Spray as well. These worked for us when our daughter got lice and they are much safer than the chemical treatments which do nto even kill the eggs and come with such cheap combs that they leave nits behind.

Here is the Canadian site and I know it links to a US and International site.

Good luck. Don't panic and even if you have used the store shampoo, consider that alot of lice are becoming chemical resistent these days.

How long does it take to get head lice?

First of all head lice can not jump. They have no hind legs so it is absolutely impossible.Second they are a human parasite that live on the head and only the head. That means they need a human to survive.Third they have claws that keep them attached to the strands of hair. What makes them very fast in the hair makes them very slow off the hair. I’ve had live bugs in a bowl that not only never got out of the bowl but didn’t even make it to the other side of the bowl.To answer your question it takes just a moment to get head lice. And you get it by head to head contact with someone who has head lice. A hug, cuddling, taking a photo together with your heads together is more than enough time to get head lice. When a bug gets on your head they will start laying 3–5 eggs every day. Those eggs take 7–10 days to hatch. Those bugs need to become adults, around 10 days, before they start laying their own eggs and leaving their host for a new one.Head lice don’t look at hats, brushes, theater seats, etc. as a means of transportation. Coming off the head means death unless they can get on another head. And coming off their host there is no guarantee a new one will come around in time. 48 hours off a host is enough time to die. In fact I have yet to see one last longer than 22 hours but I know it can happen. All of this doesn’t mean a bug can’t fall out of someone’s hair. If they are moving as you scratch that area it can totally happen. But they wouldn’t be so prevalent if they came out so easily. They stay in while you wash your hair, brush it, color, style - whatever you do to your hair. They wouldn’t have survived all this time if they easily came out of the hair. And one last note - only 50% of people out there itch because of lice. 50% of people have no symptoms at all.

How long does it take for head lice to mature?

It takes 7-10 days for a nit to hatch into an adult bug. They lay eggs about 4-7 days after they hatch and can lay up to about 8 eggs a day. The life span of lice is roughly 30 days. However, lice can not live longer than 72 hours without contact with a human head. They need to feed human blood and need the heat emitted from the head.

Does anyone know it a newly hatched lice can lay eggs?

Honestly not quite sure, what you should do is call your doctor they have an antibiotic for lice now. I had to use it on my babies after my sister had been battling head lice for two months. Even though I treated everything, they still came back and attacked the babies. Another thing to try is this recipe.

sm amt of Prell shampoo
3tblsp Olive oil
1tsp Tea tree oil
1 tsp Rosemary or Eucalyptus oil
mix well all three oils into shampoo
shampoo into hair do not rinse immediately
cover with tight fitting shower cap
leave on for half an hour
then rinse out
may have to repeat with straight shampoo to remove all the oils, but it does kill the lice.

good luck

How long does lice live in your hair............

Lice live in your hair, until you get rid of them. They lay eggs over and over, and they're babies lay more eggs. There are store brand items that you can use, but they are pretty expensive. Here are some cheaper alternatives.

Coconut or Tea Tree Oil (It kills lice, destroys them from the outside in)

Mayonnaise (Put it on your hair, cover with plastic wrap, and leave on for SEVERAL hours. DO NOT ingest it after it's been on your hair, don't lick your fingers, mayonnaise will make you very sick if it's been left out of the refrigerator too long)

There is a battery operated lice comb you can buy at most drugstore type stores (Rite Aid, CVS, Sav-On, etc...) It basically electrocutes the lice.

Have someone look through your hair, and remove all the lice eggs that are attached close to the roots of your hair. If you find any live lice, get matches, or a lighter, and burn them.

Get Suave Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner. This contains the coconut oil in it. After you've removed all the lice from your hair, use this daily. It will help stop an infestation.

Good Luck!

How long does it take for a child's head to be infested with lice? And advice please?

When I worked at a daycare a few years back everyone got head lice(kids and teachers included). I tried all the shampoos, etc and nothing worked, then I stumbled across a website that detailed how to get rid of lice naturally by following their laying and hatching schedule. It explains a lot about how lice do not live for very long off the safety and warmth of the scalp, and therefore it is not as easily passed as one may think. I had a terrible infestation in my hair (probably as bad as your child), and no one in the house (5 people) ended up getting lice.

If she has that bad of an infestation in her hair, she has most likely had lice for three weeks or more, but they probably only became adults a short time ago. Lice lay a lot of eggs. Most people start out with an adult that lays eggs. The eggs hatch and go from larva to adult over the course of several days. When they are adults they begin laying eggs, and can lay a few hundred per day for about 30 days. There is no way she ended up with hundreds of lice and eggs in a matter of a day or even a few days ago. As said, one adult probably got into her hair and began laying eggs, these past few days they are maturing into adults.

The following website give a lot of info on lice and how to get rid of it. Basically you comb the lice out for a few days, then wait for eggs to hatch and comb them out. It takes a month since lice eggs hatch every 30 days, so it assumes eggs were laid the day you begin. There is a bit more to it, certain days you have to brush while you get a day off of two on other days.

Here is the site that has a natural way of getting rid of lice. It also explains why it works, etc.

How old are head lice before they lay eggs?

Hi

had the same thing recently with my daughter.

The cream / mousse doesnt kill the eggs, that is the reason for going over the hair each day with the comb - but even more effective is with your fingers as the legs on the comb are not small enough to get the eggs and they stick to the hair - it just kills the live ones.

Eggs take a week to hatch and so it is suggested that if you are using the mousse on "day 1" you have about a week to try and get all the eggs out before they could hatch again.

White eggs are "live"
Black eggs are already hatched and "dead"

What we did was use the lotion on day one.
Then each day we washed her hair with tee tree shampoo (reccomended due to its stickyness) and then with the same make conditioner. With the conditioner still in the hair use the comb again and then rinse out.
if she can sit still then while the hair is still wet, you need to go through it and take out the eggs with your fingers.

Do this for 10 days and only if you see her scratching again or pick out a live one, should you use the lotion again.

I am sure you know but lice is nothing to do with dirty hair and they can not jump - they need to go with head to head contact.

Another thing to do would be to keep her hair up in a platt rather than down or in a pony.

hope this helps
