How Long Should A Gym Workout Be

How long do you workout per day?

I workout for about 45 minutes daily and i train with and without weights. I found that doing full body circut workouts, which means working every muscle on one day. Is much more effective then singling it out. Monday i do that then tuesday i do some for of cardio, and so on consistently and i rest sat and sun. On my workout days i do one exercise for each muscle group and do i bit of jumping rope jumping jacks in between sets. For example i do pushups or bench press for chest 3 sets then 2 mins of cardio then squats for legs, then cardio, then i do biceps then shoulder then triceps then abs not always same order do what works for you. If you want to build muscle for free weights try getting between 6-10 reps per set.

How long should i be working out at the gym?

What is your routine?

I ask cause an improper routine can do more harm than good. Muscular imbalances which lead to posterior issues to impaired muscular recovery which leads to over training syndrome and strength loss.

Usually most people can get in under and hour with a decent routine.

Also you might want to consider placing your strength training before your cardio. This way you can get a effective resistance training routine. Most people will come off cardio and exercise with terrible form or just be too tried and end up getting less out of their resistance training.

However, cardio can be done in a more fatigued state without much problem.

Since the question is "how long I should be staying in the gym" I should mention that ACSM(American College of Sports and Medicine) recommends 48 hours of rest between muscle groups. This is to allow for proper recovery(protein synthesis is said to last 38 hours post training), and for supercompensation to occur( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercompen... ).

If the fatigue isn't allowed to subside and the recovery phase doesn't set in you end up over-trained ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overtrainin... ).

If your routine is full body then I would recommend cardio on the days you worked out(this allows for recovery), otherwise I would do cardio on your leg days(assuming your cardio is something like a elliptical or treadmill).

How long should we sleep after a very intense workout in the gym?

sleep is very important aspect of modern bodybuilding; researchs have proved that human growth hormones are released in our body during sleep And it helps in muscle growth and a proper recovery of worn out muscles.6–7 hour sleep /24 hours is considered optimum for good health.Taking a nap just after your post workout meal is not a bad idea.

How long should my workout be to lose weight?

Work out for an hour a day, 6 days a week. More importantly, you have to eat healthy and watch your calorie intake. I'm 5'5 and I weigh 118. I just had a fitness assessment, and with my current activity (1hr a day), it is recommended that I eat 1843 calories a day. Since February, I decided that I would eat only healthy meals, with the occassional piece of chocolate. I lost 10 lbs, I have a toned tummy, muscle definition in my arms and legs. I can see much better results, now, because of the way I'm eating. When I'd eat any type of food, as long as I didn't exceed 1200 calories, I was in worse shape than I currently am! So, I cannot stress how important healthy foods are to the appearance of your body. Eat lean meats, like chicken, shrimp, fish. Eat pasta with ground turkey spagetti sauce, eat salads with mimimal dressing or 1 T oil with 1 T red wine vinegar, add beans to it for protein. Its not that hard, and you'll love your results, AND, I'm never hungry!

How long should a decent workout last for?

I’ll add to what Matt said. For lifting weights, the biggest influences on your length of workout will be, number of exercises, number of sets/reps, and time between sets.It really depends on your workout and your goals. For example, in powerlifting the goal is to move the most weight, so you should rest until you feel you are ready to hit the next set, and move a lot of weight. Even if that is 5–10 minutes, what’s more important is that you move the weight.IMHO I think in bodybuilding, newbies can get carried away with the number of exercises and sets. Most people think well, more is better right? And hit 5 different press variations in one chest workout, or something silly like that just because they’ve only been at the gym for an hour.In general, don’t focus on time as much, focus on what you need to get done. If you are starting out, depending on your goals, I’d suggest following a tried and true proven program. Do some research, look at what’s out there. My guess is if you are asking this, you don’t have a ton of experience. Try something like starting strength, stronglifts 5x5, or maybe Jonnie Canditos beginner program.PowerliftingToWin has awesome reviews of a ton of different programs. Mainly for strength training, but getting stronger will also get you bigger if you are starting out, and powerlifting can really help teach you proper form and lay a great foundation for bodybuilding stuff.Cheers.Dave

How long should I wait after my workout before I smoke a cigarette?

I don't want to hear all the preaching about how harmful they are. I KNOW!

I'm getting back into the weight room after a really long time. I've been working out off and on for a while but this time I want to do everything right.

I realize that nicotine constricts bloodflow and reduces the amount of oxygen and nitrogen that the body can take in.

I want to ensure that my muscles get the most nutrients when it's most important. How long should I wait before lighting up and is there even a critical healing period after a workout, or is the muscle growth about the same for the whole "tissue-rebuilding process?"

How long should a weight training workout last?

yes an hour is good for the lifting portion. That does include rests, setting up and stripping down the weights. You want to work 2 muscle groups on average per session like Chest and Triceps.

Don't forget though that you also have to put in time to do Cardio and stretching. I found that doing cardio before lifting works a lot better. First benefit is it is done and over with. Most people hate doing cardio, so get it done right away. Second it gets your body warmed up for your work out.

Make sure you also strectch before, during, and after your work-out. This is most important. A lot of people over look this, but it is a major things that over time you will see its benefits.

How long do you spend at the gym?

1.hi i try to spend no longer than an hour max an hour and half
2. 6 days a week, i have one week of low reps and high weights which will mean im at the gym longer because i wait longer between sets, and one week of high reps and low reps which lasts no longer than 25 Min's so that week im not at the gym very long.
3. i realized after doing a few different workout routines that every ones different and you have to do what you enjoy, i took my favorite exercises and things that worked best from the workouts i tried and put together my own workout plan and it works great, 2-3 days of cardio a week and a different muscle group everyday
