How Long Should I Run On The Eliptical

How long should a person run on an elliptical every day to lose weight?

If you are talking about a quality elliptical machine such as they are likely to have at a gym, they almost all will allow a certain amount of customizable programming. This allows you to enter your weight and even the kind of workout you want (hills, constant, random hills, etc.) The machine will keep a real-time tally and display your calories burned, time on the machine, etc. This allows you to meet a self-defined target for time or calories.Or, there are a number of sites around the web that will give estimates for the standard resistance flat burn rate.In any case, health authorities suggest a minimum of one-half hour of vigorous workout nearly every day and a better target would be closer to a full hour workout daily. Many people who exercise daily will allocate an hour for their workout.Weight loss will happen if you spend as little as 10 min. on the machine but the fat loss will not be much. To lose weight, you must restrict calorie intake as well as exercise. Both are about equally effective. Exercise without watching your diet can be completely useless.

How long do you have to run on an elliptical to run a mile?

Im trying to run a mile on my elliptical machine, and the counter dosent work. So if I jog the whole time, about how long would I have to go for it to be a mile??

How to last longer on the elliptical.?

I'm soo glad to hear this from someone else, I have the EXACT same problem! We have an elliptical at home and whenever I try to use it I can barely last more than 3 minutes...
But by some miracle, I once managed to last half an hour, so the advice I can give you is to already be warmed up once you start working out, don't put the resistance level up too high at first, change speeds according to how you're feeling... Listen to music or watch TV, try not to think too much! And don't kill yourself, building up your stammina could take a while, but all you need is patience. Try to do a minute or so more every day and you will eventually be able to do masses. Good luck :)

How far is a lap on an elliptical?

I ran on a ProForm Smart Stride elliptical, and I normally thought a lap was a fourth of a mile. Then when I finished, it said I ran for 30 minutes and reached a distance of 1500. A distance of 75 is one lap on this elliptical. If I take four 75's and get a distance of 300 for every mile, that means I ran 5 miles in 30 minutes. That's a mile every 6 minutes at a rate of 10 miles per hour! Is this believable, or is there some kind of measurement they use that I am unfamiliar with?

Why is the elliptical easier than running?

The elliptical is more like riding a bike than running.
A lot of people don't go fast enough on the elliptical.
its recommended to keep your feet going at about 120 RPM. You can download a metronome mp3 of 120 bpm and put it on your ipod to help you match up your speed. You don't even need to use it more than once to see what speed you need to go to reach 120rpm. If at the end of 30 minutes, if you can still finish a sentence without stopping to inhale, then next time, increase the resistance by 1. You want to finish your workouts breathing hard.

How long does it take you to do a MILE on an ELLIPTICAL?

go faster. elipticals are easier than running, so its good that you at least do higher levels. but 11 minutes is kind of rediculous to run a mile. most peole can do 2 miles in that time.

Does it take longer to do a mile on an elliptical than jogging?

I have two babies that I have to take with me and I know the jogging stroller slows me down (and besides that we don't have a good track around here). Three weeks ago, I got on my elliptical and it took me 20 min to do a mile. At the time, I was able to walk a mile in about 16 min, which is why I think it may take longer to do a mile on my elliptical. Anyway, I have gotten my mile time on the elliptical down to 9:57 (36 min for 3 miles). I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing, and if so, what is the time difference between your elliptical and jogging mile. I want to do a 5k but I don't want to embarrass myself. :)

Can you continue to run on an elliptical trainer after having a completely torn ACL?

I have been diagnosed with a completely torn ACL and a tear in the meniscus after I twisted my knee during a fall. I am thinking about surgery in the next year or so. Meanwhile I would like to continue my fitness routine to prevent gaining weight and running in a elliptical trainer (controlled running) was what worked best for me before the injury. I have no pain now when I do it. Can I continue this? Are there any wear/tear issues that I should be aware of? I did ask my doc about this and he said that it should be perfectly fine for me, but would like to hear from others too.
