What methods did the USA use to dominate the philippines?

The USA did not have to dominate the Philippines. There was enough cooperation at the time for having defeated the Spanish and later the Japanese.
The problem then was that some who wanted independence wanted it only to prosper themselves. Independence was granted not just once but twice. The result is what you have today. The Philippines was not ready to rule themselves. The result is family dynasties vying for political control to prosper and gain more wealth at the expense of the people.
