How Many Ornaments Are On Your Holiday Tree This Year

Holiday ornament physics help asap please?

A holiday ornament in the shape of a hollow sphere with mass 2.0×10^−2 kg and radius 4.5×10^−2 m is hung from a tree limb by a small loop of wire attached to the surface of the sphere. If the ornament is displaced a small distance and released, it swings back and forth as a physical pendulum.

1) Calculate its period. (You can ignore friction at the pivot. The moment of inertia of the sphere about the pivot at the tree limb is 5MR^{2}/3.)

How many ornaments are “enough” on a 7 ft tree to make it look completely decorated?

We've never counted them all, but a quick count says at least 250 items, some of these are now 25 years old from our very first xmas tree

How many ornaments do you put on your Christmas tree?

Many. Very many….

Do you buy new Christmas ornaments every year? If so, what do you do with your old ornaments?

No. Oh no! I have (really cute btw) dough ornaments I made as an Elementary student! A whole shoe box full of them (—) minus, some my dogs ate (very salty dog biscuits) over the years.A collection of mementos that were my parents. My kids from Elementary school on up.I leave ornaments up to the grandkids now:)I am still re gifting some of them to my kids…the grands think it is funny seeing mommy as an elementary student. They are still a bit young, but surely, my collections will only continue to grow.I replaced the lights several times over the years…the newest LEDs. Nice and cool.I am about due for a long run of strung popcorn, and cranberries. Unstrung, Birdfood:)Re Gifting ornaments that have meaning is so cool:)

Help! Cat breaking ornaments problem!?

Nothing short of getting plastic ornaments. Cats can climb inside the tree too. One year I got some very light nylon netting and kind of wrapped the bottom of the tree in the netting. I got green netting to match the tree. I took the netting off when we had guests. That usually kept the cat from knocking off the ornaments off the tree. I am sure your cat was delighted to see the tree thinking it was a giant toy just for him.

What should I name my christmas tree (a little early :) )?

Every year, I name my Chrismtas tree. 2 years ago, she was Eleanor. No connection to Christmas, but it really looked like an Eleanor :) Last year she was named Belle, like Christmas bells.

Here is a list my brother and I made of names we like:

Angelina (means angel, but is it too Jolie?)
Clara (means clear, bright)
Clarice (The name of a reindeer on Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys, pronounced clair-EESE)
Holly
Hope
Merry
Faith
Noelle (too obvious?)
Winter (a little trendy. Nickname would be Winnie)
Frost / Frosty (too masculine?)
Ginger (as in Gingerbread cookies)
Jingle

Our tree always has pink and white ornaments, and pink ribbons, which is why it's always a girl. Also, I thought a visual description might help you help me a pick a name that is fitting!

So which name do you prefer? Also, any suggestions for other Christmas-related names?

Thank you!

[PS I am not joking]

Do you have a Christmas ornament tradition?

Not one in particular, me and my family always decorate the tree together, and wait for each other to do it together. It’s always fun and something to look forward to. I usually help one of my friends decorate their’s too.Of course we have our ball shaped ornaments, which are always fun to look at and put on.And then you have your expensive ones, and the ones that were given as gifts, which are always my favorite.Anyways, hope this was helpful, other people probably have more traditional ways of putting on ornaments.Have a Merry Christmas!

What color of lights do you put on your tree?

Multicolored.Always.The funny thing is that I infinitely prefer a Christmas tree with white lights, from a decor standpoint. But the magical sparkle of my childhood was wrapped up in those twinkling colored lights. The soft pink, the deep green, the subtle differences between yellow and orange… I’d study them for hours!Maybe someday if I have two Christmas trees I’ll do one in white lights. But for now… it’s really something I do for the children. And colored it is.

When is a good time to take down holiday decorations?

So the holidays have come and gone! And we're pretty sure the decorations are still up. Whether it's lights or even the Christmas tree, when do you think is a good time to take everything down? Share with the community!
