Why would someone want to live in Alabama rather than Massachusetts?

As Shannon 1 stated: personal choices, cheaper. and some liberal. Here are some pros and cons.Pro 1: WEATHER .. the weather is pretty much a roller coaster in the winter. One day it could be 75 degree the next, schools and roads are closed from ice and snow. Of course, our road closures happen a lot quicker than in Massachusetts. If the governor gets wind that there will be rain and freezing temps, state of emergency happens and schools typically close. That might sound silly, but we are not equipped at all for freezing temps. The roller coaster temp is great because you can get breaks from cold weather. (I hate cold weather so I love that)Pro 2: We’re more polite here (or so I hear). One thing the nation has correct, it’s very very important for you one of younger years to answer an elder “yes sir” or “yea mam”… Some may not, but the attitude is this: if you raise your kids right, they will do it. It’s a measuring technique of good upbringing. (true story)Pro 3: College football (but this can be a con too). There is a lot of love AND hate for teams down here. There have been many a fight over team pride. Google LSU Alabama Tennessee Auburn hatred. Seriously. It’s crazy.Pro 4: You are close to the gulf. You are close to Huntsville Space Center. You are close to Atlanta. You are close to Nashville. There are so many cool things down in the South, and you’re right there. (my favorite is Dragon Con in Atlanta during labor day weekend).Pro 5: it’s cheap to live here, BUTTTTTT your pay will suffer too. Let’s just say, your pay could be directly related to the cheap cost of living.Pro 6: UAB has a really amazing med school, but so does USA (south alabama), and Univ of Alabama has a pretty decent law program. And Auburn has a wonderful vet school.Con 1: Crime is still pretty bad down here. Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile…. it may be because I follow the “uncut” groups on facebook and everyone communicates now, but it does seem like things have worsened.Con 2: The schools aren’t the best in some areas (they are actually failing). You have to research before you pick an area to live in. For instance, Montgomery area: You would want to live in Elmore or maybe Autauga counties for their public schools.Con 3: Racism is not as bad as the rest of the country says… but there is indeed some crazy folks on every side, but I think that’s more individual versus organized groups.

What is the bare minimum salary to live in the UK for a family of four?

This will depend on the location, London and South will be more expensive. Ball park, you'd be looking at £600+ rent, same again for bills, Water, Gas, Electric, Council, Telephone, Internet  Food really cheap £80 per week, average I would say £150 a week for a healthy diet.So ~£1300 per month.

Which countries offer a low population, low living cost, good weather, and big area?

Here are a few I could think ofOmanOman is quite hot, but has a population of only 4 million and is very very cheap, with a 2-bed apartment going for around $700/month. It's a very liberal gulf destination, and has plenty of things to do, and is a short drive away from the UAE. Per person, clothes and food cost around $300 monthly, and, assuming you bring a car, gas is $72/month if you use 200 liters per month, your cost of living is $1072/month.MalaysiaCrime is rampant in places like Kuala Lumpur, but closer to Alor Setar a 2-bed apartment is about $200/month! Malaysia has amazing forests, many with hiking trails to enjoy. Food and clothes will run you around $250, and if you use 200 L/month, $100 will be your expenditure on gas, and your cost of living would be $550/month. The only downside is the humidity.ThailandIn Thailand an apartment goes for just $400/month, and it's worth it to live somewhere with such beautiful beaches. $190 should get you clothes and food for a month, but $160 for gas is more expensive than the others. It's great to take a drive out to one of their beautiful beaches, especially when the cost of living is only $750/month, and Thailand is also my personal favorite from the three.Hope this helps!

How much does your rent or mortgage cost you every month and what type of home do you live in.?

i live in an apartment in Phoenix and i pay $635.00 per month (one bedroom) i think that's pretty cheap for housing, I'm curious as to what other people shell out every month for there home, every city has different cost of living so list your city as well if you don't mind.

How much money will I have to spend on average per month if I live off campus, rent a house, maybe only myself or with someone? How much will it cost with the expenditures on food, etc.?

Dude your question is not clear enough. If you ask something you have to pay attention some steps 1. Your question must be clear that everyone could be understand2. Use simple words and easy meanings3. In your question you have to  emphasize exactly what about are you asking (for example if your question is about university then point which universite are you asking or if your question is about smartphones then which model etc.)In question above that you have given.  You are asking about your food expenditures. Who is able to know that how much do you eat in day approximately :))))))We fed up with your stupid questions :))))))))

Are solar panel installations cost efficient? If so, how much time is it required for breaking even?

We recently built a tool (using SAM model in the backend) to understand if one was to install a solar energy system at their residence on rooftop, how much time would it take them to recover their investment. For our research, we picked top 3 most largest city for every US state from here. We also made following assumptions:20,000 kWh annual electricity consumption.Customer wants to deploy a solar energy system to replace 100% (or closer) of grid electricity.Consumption of electricity increases by 3.5% annually while the solar system performance degrades by 0.5% annually.EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) cost is 3$/W.Here are the results for top 20 cities (out of 1500 (=50 states x 3 top cities):Please note that break even point is time in years it will take to recover the system cost with the savings in utility bill. We also picked the electric utility rate that is most friendly to solar energy system.Next, we ranked each state by comparing break even point for their top city, second top city and third top city. Here is how it looked like.Alabama, California, and Hawaii are the clear winners with break even less than 5 yrs. BTW, if you are curious about return on investment on solar energy system in your city, please drop in comment.

Would painting a metal roof white bring down cooling costs?

First my husband is an aircraft mechanic (he currently works on commercial wind turbines). One of the things they learn about in aircraft mechanic school is how different paints effect the aircraft, and how hot they make the aircraft.

Silver ranks right at the top for being one of the very worst....right under black paint. I too thought silver would be very reflective....not so. It really absorbs the heat.

So yes, it WILL make the house hotter.

White is the absolute best for reflecting the sun back up, and NOT absorbing the heat. If your husband thinks the roof can be painted white (get a professional opinion, and price quot) that would be a very good idea.

Also you say the "rain sounds pretty." I have a white metal roof. Because we have so much insulation we virtually cannot hear the rain. We can hear hail, but not rain. If you can hear the rain, the house needs more insulation. Insulation is not just for cold climates....it's also for hot climates. Insulation will help you retain the cool in your house, as well as keeping the heat out.

I live in the high mountain desert. Winters here are brutal, and EXTREMELY cold. A white metal roof is a bit of a catch .22.

We had so much snow this year, the weight of the snow on roofs was becoming an issue. Our neighbors with black, brown, grey, green, or any color other than white, would get some melt off during the days when it got above freezing. We had zero melt. We've had about a week of 40 degree days....all of our neighbors have no snow on their roofs. We still have about to feet of snow.

White roofs really work.
