How Much Money Does One Need To Make To File Taxes And Claim Child Dependent Claim

Can I claim as independent on my taxes?

If you have earned enough money to file taxes or to receive a tax refund you should file. You must file a federal income tax return if you are a citizen or resident of the United States. Since you are single, if your income is less than $10,350.00 on your W-2 and no withholding you are not required to file. However, even if your income is less than $10,350.00 and your employer withheld withholding, it would be to your advantage to file a return to get a refund of your withholding. As far as your parents claiming you. You have said that you have not lived with them for two years. They should not be claiming you if they have not provided over half support for you. However you mention that you live with relatives. Do they provide over 50% of your support? They may be qualified to claim you if they meet the support tests and pay for your support. If not, and you pay for your own support you should be able to claim yourself. Here is a website for additional information for filing a return: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i...Taxes are not to difficult to file but since this will be your first time, you may want to visit a VITA site that have IRS volunteers to help complete returns for free.Hope this is helpful.

Would I still be able to claim myself as independent for my taxes if my parents claim me?

If your parents can claim you as a dependent - regardless of whether they actually claim you or not - then you cannot claim your own exemption. As I say repeatedly, this is not an option. The question is not whether they do claim you, but whether they can.Your parents can claim you as a qualifying child if you:Are under age 19 at the end of the year, or under age 24 and a full-time student;Lived with them for more than half the year - which includes any time you spent living in a college dorm room before you officially moved out;Did not pay more than half of your own support - you have to consider in this equation what your costs would have been had you been living on your own rather than under their roof.If those are all true, your parents can claim you - and you cannot claim your own exemption.

Can a US resident claim the spouse as a dependent on her US tax return?

The short answer is yes, but I suspect there’s more to the question than at first appears. If your spouse is a nonresident alien and you want to file separately, but still claim her as a dependent, you can do so, but only if she has no US-source income and cannot be claimed as a dependent by anyone else.If you and your spouse wish to file jointly, you can (together) make an election to have her treated as a US resident. If she does this, she is required to include her worldwide income on the tax return in the same manner as you do.The one difference is that the Net Investment Income Tax (form 8960) does not apply to her. But if it’s to your benefit (because joint filing can be beneficial here), you can elect to file this on a joint basis, too.In order to file, she will need an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

Can I claim a fake child on my tax return? How does the IRS check?

When e-filing, the first thing a return must do is get an ‘acknowledgement' from the IRS. These can reject for many reasons including if there is already a return filed with that SS#, whether the names match the SS# for the primary and/or spouse and checking dependent info… Name, SS#, year of birth and if they have been claimed. So, you wouldn't be able to e-file as a ‘fake' child on the return would bounce right here. You could file a paper return, but those are subject to scrutiny and youd never see a refund. To use an actual child's info runs into the problem first of who is supposed to claim them and how youd convince them to not claim their child so you could… I promise, that will be an awkward conversation. If you somehow did that, you would then run into all the shiny new provisions created just to thwart this exact thing. You'll be asked to prove that you supported the child (medical documents in your name as guardian, school papers, etc), that the child lived with you at a specific residence for over half the year (documented) and that noone else has a claim and why you do and where their family members are. I have seen actual parents and non-nuclear families struggle at this point when I happen to know that they are 110% in the right… Yet unable to properly document their claim and be denied. The IRS is currently hyper focused on anyone claiming the AOC, EIC and Child Tax Credits as they have been bleeding money due to fraud (21 Billion dollars in 2016). Just before Obama left office he implemented the PATH Act (protecting americans against tax hikes) which dealt solely with fraud.Specifically, it restricts the IRS from ‘accepting' any return that has children claimed on it, not paying any refunds for those type returns until at least midway through February (this year they waited until the 27th.So, good luck. This is the IRS… And, along with their collaborators the Federal Reserve and the Major Bank System, they have had an exclusive and inhibited clutch on the finance system in this country since they were both formed in 1913. They have been in the business of scamming and hiding their nature for along time and are light years better at it than you could ever be.. Your only chance is that your total $ if successful is so insignificant that they just fail to care.
